- *6 Month Update: The Alien iii has pretty much stayed in my saddle bag in its own little case. I have maybe only used it once or twice, and it has gotten pretty rusty. The Alien ii has been through hell for over a decade and has no rust.
*NOTE: I forgot to mention one feature that is unique to the Alien iii, and that is there is a tool for holding a bladed spoke to prevent it from spinning while you turn the spoke nipple.
On the Alien 2, the dedicated pedal allen tip is the one meant to be used with the biggest wrench opening, to provide that extra torque. Once fitted together, it hits the base of the pedal allen tip and somewhat holds in place. Cheers.
Alien 2 chain tool fits a Shimano 11-sp chain fine.
Damn. My Alien II just arrived. Now I have to get the Alien III??
Great video! Very informative. I have a standard/basic multi tool but not sure if I need to upgrade to something like this. The chain breaker is nice to have but I'm not sure how useful the box wrenches really are for modern bikes for roadside repairs/emergencies

Check the Super T Handle Metric set, a compact new design that solves the rotational problem when torque is not needed (at Amazon).
Which one for bike touring?
Either is fine choice, but I would have to say I think I like the Alien 2 better. Stainless steel still looks good after 13 years. My Alien3 got really rusty within the first year.
The little wrench 8:40 you put it on the tool you showing at 1:08 and then again 1:38.
Not worth double the price
Also, despite almost never being used, somehow the Alien 3 has gotten pretty rusty from just staying in my saddle bag in its own little case after only a few months.
@@chazwarpdrive5171 that’s no good I’ll definitely get the alien 2 👍🏻 seems like it has all the same tools and more and lasts a long time
