he's not calling out anyone. He has to respond in some way because that's what he is paid for as an apologist -- he should steer the masses' opinion in the "right" direction. So, what he does is he sort of "acknowledges" the incorrectness of pope's words (he cannot avoid that because they are blatantly wrong), but then engages in sophistry to sort of "chide" the pope in a "brotherly/loving" way, suggesting he do not do that anymore and get his act together (sort of thing). To truly call the pope out would be placing these words in the overall context of everything this pope said and did - that will show that this isn't "accidental" or whatever, but that's a definite pattern which suggests a certain agenda, from which it is safe to infer the pope isn't there to proclaim Christ, so to speak, but for a clear globalist agenda.
Fancy seeing you here! Love your videos! Didnt expect for you to be Roman Catholic, but I guess I didnt have any particular denomination in mind either(but generally something affirming the 5 solas) 💁♂️ I have several issues with RC theology(such as the authority of tradition/the pope, praying and veneration of saints, perpetual virginity of Mary, among other things) Looking forward to some Stormlight(or other cosmere) videos soon(hopefully 😁)
And what would your prayer will be? Have him change his mind in regards his statements? You are pretty much asking God in that prayer to have the pope renounce his leadership and accept the Bible as the only source of wisdom. If that is your prayer request, I will follow your request and add you to my prayer.
Antipope in the service of big finance. GK Chesterton (The everlasting man, 1925): "The Theosophists build a pantheon; but it is only a pantheon for pantheists. They call a Parliament of Religions as a reunion of all the peoples; but it is only a reunion of all the prigs. Yet exactly such a pantheon had been set up two thousand years before by the shores of the Mediterranean; and Christians were invited to set up the image of Jesus side by side with the image of Jupiter, of Mithras, of Osiris, of Atys, or of Ammon. It was the refusal of the Christians that was the turning-point of history. If the Christians had accepted, they and the whole world would have certainly, in a grotesque but exact metaphor, gone to pot. They would all have been boiled down to one lukewarm liquid in that great pot of cosmopolitan corruption in which all the other myths and mysteries were already melting. It was an awful and an appalling escape. Nobody understands the nature of the Church, or the ringing note of the creed descending from antiquity, who does not realise that the whole world once very nearly died of broadmindedness and the brotherhood of all religions.". Big finance controls everything (including false "bergoglian" church) and wants to destroy Christian identity and family because they are the greatest obstacle to full control over people and to new inhuman world they wish to establish. God help us.
As a non-Catholic outsider, it feels incredibly weird watching/hearing numerous people have to create multiple alternative meanings of Francis statement(s) for him to pick from.
It reminds me of muslim apologists reinterpreting what muhamad meant when he said "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them..." - "Well, what he REALLY meant was give them 3 meals a day and kiss them goodnight." 🤣🤣🤣
You have a strong faith, because Pope Francis is not helping Catholics at all. Hopefully, God will send to his Church a good Pope , not someone like Pope Francis
Please understand he is not a true pope but an apostate. Learn the true Catholic faith by avoiding anything taught or written since Vatican II. Read papal encyclicals prior to John XXIII. Read Butler's Lives of the Saints. Read anything written by the Doctors and Fathers of the Church and valid saints such as St. Francis de Sales. Get a catechism written before Vatican II. Listen to sermons available on the web given by faithful Catholics who preached prior to Vatican II.

Imagine Jesus telling his followers that only through him can you receive salvation. Then telling a group of foreigners that their Gods are just as real as his Father and they will also receive salvation. Then his Apostles telling everyone "Oh dont worry guys...he was just speaking in an informal manner. Its not official doctrine."
The apostles walk up to a bunch of Baal worshipers: “it’s alright to sacrifice children to Baal guys, after all, all religions are a path to God. Let’s hold hands and be friends” 😂
as an asian Christian it makes me sad, because most people in this region don’t know Jesus. and for the Pope to say this he has brought the damnation of so many
St. Paul rightfully criticized St. Peter, when he was wrong. it's good to criticize our Pope when he does something wrong (with charity). EDIT: My comment was not permission to bash our Pope or invite rejection of church councils. Despite my opinion, our pope is still our pope, and we are still under his leadership, and I submit to the magisterium. Pleass Pray for him and our church.
Lumen gentium 25 Bishops, teaching in communion with the Roman Pontiff, are to be respected by all as witnesses to divine and Catholic truth. In matters of faith and morals, the bishops speak in the name of Christ and the faithful are to accept their teaching and adhere to it with a religious assent. This religious submission of mind and will must be shown in a special way to the authentic magisterium of the Roman Pontiff, even when he is not speaking ex cathedra; that is, it must be shown in such a way that his supreme magisterium is acknowledged with reverence, the judgments made by him are sincerely adhered to, according to his manifest mind and will. His mind and will in the matter may be known either from the character of the documents, from his frequent repetition of the same doctrine, or from his manner of speaking.
@@seraphim95 Yeah? Am I also to respect the bishop of Linz who put a blasphemous statue of the Theotokos in the Linz Cathedral? If I lived in the time of Nestorius, was I also supposed to respect him when he preached soul-destroying error just because he was a bishop?
I said my first prayer for Pope Francis tonight after my rosary. I was watching a video about this today, and the person speaking said, "People are very quick to criticise the pope, but very few will pray for him." Really spoke to me.

Anyone who is intellectually honest knows this is pluralism, which has been declared abject heresy. It takes intellectual gymnastics on an extraordinarily level to justify those comments.
And it requires simple-mindedness to NOT see the truth of what you just stated. Towards the beginning of this video, Trent Horn even displayed the words that Francis uttered. Here they are again. And then Horn proceeds to tell us that Francis really didn't mean what he obviously said. "All religions are a path to reach God. They are - I make a comparison - like different languages, different idioms, to get there"
Not to defend what the Pope said but when I initially heard it I could maybe see that it related to: Acts 17:22-31 ESV [22] So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. [23] For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. [24] The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, [25] nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. [26] And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, [27] that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, [28] for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ [29] Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. [30] The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, [31] because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” The key part being 'that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way towards him and find him'. While God chose for salvation to come through the Jews, God still allotted other religions to other nations in the past. It's a big stretch but in that sense you could suggest that other religions, while false, can still somehow (by Gods grace and mercy and not the false religion itself) lead to finding the true path in Christ. But this seems like a lot of stretching at this point and I wouldn't consider it as solid theology.
We don’t leave Christ because of Judas. Even if Francis gets worse, we stay the course. The faith will outlive him. He played no role in my conversion, but I hate to think that he is playing a role in someone’s reluctance to convert.

He will give an account before God for his Pontificate. Root for his success. He is a fellow brother in Christ.
Trying to defend our Lord and his Church is hard enough today, it is both demoralizing and spiritually exhausting to have to defend the Lord and His Church while seemingly being undermined by the Pope.
You see his horns growing, yet you seek to ignore it. You see how eyes glows in the dark, yet you say how beautiful his eyes are. You see his tail between his legs, but you mistook it for his private parts. You see his snake tongue slithering, and yet you said how delightful they move. This is the Catholic trying to defend the Pope and Catholism.
agreed, doesn't the Catholic Church have a way to remove the Pope if he turns out heretical? I'm protestant, but if i were catholic, i'd be sweating bullets
''It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.'' Opposing the alleged pope takes balls because the consequences can be dire (Cardinal Pell comes to mind). yes, that's exactly what Vatican 1 teaches. The thing is that Francis showed the pope doesn't has a charism of infallibility when teaching faith and morals.
@@SachelleCambria I’m not talking scripture. I’m talking about the position of the pope. He holds the head position. People listen to him and his words for guidance (along with their bishops, priests and bible). There should never be a moment when the pope isn’t putting Jesus and the Catholic faith above everything else. It’s literally his job
I don't know any Catholics who go around saying "My religion is more IMPORTANT than yours." It's ridiculous. The pope should not sow confusion in the first place. That's the other guy.
Unfortunately I have known many, many catholics who go around saying that. That is the reason I left catholicism. That and the fact that they covered up the fact that many priests raped children
If you truly believe that your specific institution, amongst all branches of Christianity, was founded by Jesus Christ Himself, then you have no reason not to. I've met many Catholics who do exactly that.
Trent, why do you think Pope Francis never, or almost never, clarifies when he does stuff like this? This is far from the first time he has done something like this? And after-the-fact statements from the Vatican never really clarify. They just usually offer meaningless word salad with no calories.
When you say, ‘Oh, he was just speaking to a group overseas, nothing major,’ that might be fine if he were talking about the best football team or even politics. But these comments are about the most important topic in the Christian faith: faith and salvation in Jesus. I want to think that when the Pope speaks on this, he should speak accurately.
I am protestant, but I certainly admire you for taking the time to bring such encouraging reminders here. Even for me, it was uplifting to remember Divine Providence in life's apparent absurdity. I'll be praying for you all, my dear family in Christ. Have a very blessed day as well!
Why does Pope Francis not evangelize wih the Holy Name of Jesus in his lips? "He who denies Me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:33)
As an argentinian this is twice as concerning, he constantly insist in supporting political parties that are responsibles for the demise of his own nation.
Sources have said bergoglio pretended to be an orthodox Catholic to gain favor but had ill intentions all along. I wish Argentinians will come forward and tell the world what he did in Buenos Aires.

Dear @airman6822 The Roman Catholic Church acknowledges the Pope as THE Spiritual Leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Can you not discern a problem with this issue ? Really ?? The System is flawed ! The system of the Roman Catholic Church is contrary to the way that Jesus set up His Church, and that is why there is a problem. The Roman Catholic system/organization is based on a premise that is not supported by the teachings of the first century Christian church that Jesus initially built in Jerusalem (the Jerusalem Christian Church, the Mother church of all Christian Churches). Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the Life, no one come to the father by through Me." Jesus did NOT say: "The Roman Catholic Church is the way, the truth and the Life, no one come to the Father but though the Roman Catholic Church." Do you trust in Jesus the Messiah or the Roman Catholic Church led by it's spiritual leader who affirms heretical teachings contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ ? I left the Church I grew up in because thought he study of the Scriptures I became convinced that it was not the purest form of Christianity. It was tough to leave my parents and brothers and the traditions I had grown up in, but I believe seekers of truth will make sacrifices to give up traditions that distort truth. DZ
@@Doc-Holliday1851my thought is if it's true then there is no problem but this hasn't been the teaching of The Church. To me it looks more like Pope Francis is trying to say what people want to hear. The problem I see is if this isn't true people could see Pope Francis as an authority figure and believe him and go on living a religion that doesn't lead to heaven.
As a Protestant I’ve tried to be as fair as I could possibly be to the Pope. Most of my close friends are Catholic and I go through seasons of contemplating converting. Francis has been dodgy on a lot of rhetoric, but this is too far. I’m not going to cover for him on this.
@@Submission2Orthodoxy oh okay, I thought you meant The Church of the East (which is the Nestorian Church). I've actually converted to the Greek Orthodox Church, I'm getting baptized this week. Greatest thing to ever happen to me
I’m Catholic for Christ, not for the Pope. He can make a million mistakes and it wouldn’t matter to me. He could even be evil, and I would live my life the same way and keep praying for him. Luckily, I do believe he is a sincere man. He has the difficult job of leading a divided church while also trying to save souls.
You realize most people not familiar with Christianity think he speaks for everyone right? He literally just told every other religion they are on a path toward God. Do you know how many millions if not billions of people believe this is what Christianity teaches now? Would you think your soul needs Christ to be saved if you’re already on the same path?
As a Protestant this is a real problem for us too. If I’m trying to evangelize to someone who is in one of these religions and has heard his quote… this isn’t about the merits of Catholicism v Protestantism but the very basis of the Apostles’ Creed itself. Preaching the Gospel just became that much more difficult if a correction isn’t issued ASAP.
Are you aware that most Protestant leaders including Rick Warren, Southern Baptist Congress, Lutheran and ALL Evangelical churches have bowed to the Pope and subjugated their churches under him. (2014). Google it and you will find articles and photos.
The Catholic Church rejects Freemasonry and condemns it and even cuts off Catholics that dare join the organization. But Pope Francis constantly spouts their talking points and their doctrines, they even praise him for it. If it talks like one, walks like one, looks like one... BUT WHO AM I Matthew 7:20 You shall know them by their fruits We’ve had bad popes but Francis is the most confusing Pope in history, and we know our God is not a God of confusion, and his contradictory statements and confusing wording, to me is not an accident. Something malicious is brewing inside our Church and we cannot ignore that our Bible says there are wolves in sheep’s clothing
I agree, actions and the past speak louder then words. There's a difference between baseless and emotional accusations and those made with evidence backing them.
The amount of mental gymnastics here is wild. It's heads I win, tails you lose. Doesn't matter how heretical his statements are - you can always sweep it under the rug by saying " Well, it wasn't an official teaching, it was just a casual remark, it has no weight". But presumably if the pope said something true instead of the heresy, you would say "That's true teaching from the pope, and that has weight". Also, this is not a one-off remark, Trent. This pope has a clear pattern and record of heretical statements. Majority of your career has been doing damage control for this guy. The prot argument is not "This pope is confusing, therefore Catholicism is false". It's more like this pope (and the papacy in general) is utterly littered with guys contradicting each other over the centuries, and _that_ is strongly suggestive that Catholicism is man-made.
I love Trent Horn for putting me back on the trail of Apostolic faith and now to Orthodoxy, but I agree. The entire Ex Cathedra concept is just a wild stretch. Peter erred in judgement, but never relegated Christ to a secondary or ancillary role in salvation.
I am a brand new Catholic. Was a protestant pastor. Thank you for ur Vid. I was worried. You have put my heart at peace that I made the right decision to give up all to be Catholic 😊May God bless ur ministry.
Saint John Bosco had many mystical visions or dreams, the most well known being one of the Church represented as a ship tossed about amidst storms and attacked by many smaller ships which were the enemies and persecutions of the Church. Two pillars guided the ship- at the top of one pillar was the Eucharist and on the other was the Virgin Mary. These are our sure guides in times of uncertainty and of tribulations. As St Padre Pio famously said- Pray, hope and don't worry. God bless you brand new Catholic.
As a Protestant I don’t understand how Catholics can at one moment tell me I’m outside of the true church and that not being under the pope and accepting certain dogmas threatens my salvation, yet the pope can have the audacity to say Muslims will be saved.
It's called the ever-changing, malleable nonsense of "Sola Ecclesia" - the CHURCH is the ultimate infallible authority rather than that which we can clearly identify as God-breathed revelation (i.e. the Scriptures). And it's tragic that most Catholics are ignorant of their own church's ever-changing "dogmas". Vatican I (an allegedly infallible council) identified Protestants as "heretics and schismatics" but Vatican II identified Protestants as merely "separated brethren". So which allegedly infallible council are we to believe?
It’s simple, God is not bound by the Sacraments, though they are the ordinary means of Salvation and the Catholic Church is the true church. …But God can choose to save whom He desires. God doesn’t hold it against someone for what they do not know. He’s not an Ogre in the sky looking to flick people into hell. His greatest attribute to Mercy as told to St. Faustina.
@@johnclaiborne2749…Both councils are correct. The distinction is between Protestants who reject the truth of the Catholic Church vs those who do not know any better. The Catholic Church is the means to salvation but God in His mercy can save whom He chooses.
@@G-MIP Nope, the two councils didn't say that. That's just your "spin", or your spoon-fed response from some Catholic apologist. That means everything (church councils, popes, church teachings, etc.) needs to be evaluated in light of what Scripture teaches.
@@johnclaiborne2749…Lol. It was at the council of Rome in 382 under Pope Damasus where the canon of scripture was declared. Apparently you do need a Pope and magisterium as you have rejected Christ’s command to eat His flesh and drink His blood for eternal life John 6(only a symbolic knock-off is available in the Protestant churches named after men). You also fail to confess your sins the way Christ instructs John 20:23. Among many other commands. It’s you that has fallen into heresy… not the Pope or Councils.
Honestly, when I hear what the pope is saying lately, it puts me in mind of a priest I knew. He was a good and holy man (not absent normal human flaws), and loved, LOVED the Lord. Over the last few years of his life he started treating others with blatant spiritual, emotional, and psychological abuse and claiming Jesus Christ told him to. I could NOT square it with the man I knew.... Until six weeks before he died, when I learned he had an undiagnosed form of dementia that stemmed from a physical cause. When I hear about the things Pope Francis says and does, now I think of dementia. I truly think he's not in right mind. Lord, have mercy on him, and on us all.
I think you may have a valid point. However truth is hes amazing for a near centanarian, its probably one of those misunderstood remarks taken out of context remark like the rest of what hes supposedly said and done, then when the full version of the discussion is shown hes actually right on point. Even the Pope gets censored and censured.
His remarks were damaging. A person on TJMcCarty’s website said she no longer wants to explore Catholicism based on his comments. Unfortunately TJ gave her a thumbs up. This was damaging
@@jcbrown0 It wouldn't be if you knew about the faith. To make war against the Pope is to make war against God, seeing the Pope is God, and God is the Pope." -Moreri's History. (Louis Moréri (25 March 1643 - 10 July 1680) was a French priest and encyclopedist.) "The leader of the Catholic church is defined by the faith as the Vicar of Jesus Christ (and is accepted as such by believers). The Pope is considered the man on earth who takes the place of the Second Person of the omnipotent God of the Trinity." (John Paul II, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 3, 1994). "The Pope is not simply the representative of Jesus Christ. On the contrary, he is Jesus Christ Himself, under the veil of the flesh, and who by means of a being common to humanity continues His ministry amongst men ... Does the Pope speak? It is Jesus Christ Who is speaking. Does he teach? It is Jesus Christ Who teaches. Does he confer grace or pronounce an anathema? It is Jesus Christ Himself Who is pronouncing the anathema and conferring the grace. Hence consequently, when one speaks of the Pope, it is not necessary to examine, but to obey: there must be no limiting the bounds of the command, in order to suit the purpose of the individual whose obedience is demanded: there must be no caviling at the declared will of the Pope, and so invest it with quite another than that which he has put upon it: no preconceived opinions must be brought to bear upon it: no rights must be set up against the rights of the Holy Father to teach and command; his decisions are not to be criticized, or his ordinances disputed. Therefore by Divine ordination, all, no matter how august the person may be - whether he wear a crown or be invested with the purple, or be clothed in the sacred vestments: all must be subject to Him Who has had all things put under Him." -Evangelical Christendom, January 1, 1895, pg. 15, published in London by J. S. Phillips. -These words appeared in the Roman Canon Law: "To believe that our Lord God the Pope has not the power to decree as he is decreed, is to be deemed heretical.-I?i the Gloss "Extravagantes" o.f Pope John XXII Cum inter, Tit. XIV, Cap. IV. Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium, Paris, 1685. (See actual document here)
It's unfortunate and misguided when he talks like this, but the core teachings of the faith remain, and Francis knows this. He just is not good sometimes in messaging. Conservative Catholics love when he condemned transgenderism again recently. But we're not used to this sort of inconsistency in language, compared to previous popes in our lifetimes. And in the information age we live in, everything is amplified worldwide. It's not an excuse, but certainly we have had much worse popes historically. We need to pray for our clergy in general. I'll say a prayer for you for a fruitful RCIA process!
Peace be with you. I am a Singaporean Catholic, for Catholics here and in the surrounding countries there is no confusion among us, we understand from the Pope that Jesus Christ is GOD. I am going to explain a few things about life in this part of the world and share testimonies and the things I have seen living here, hopefully it brings some clarity and understanding. Inter-religious harmony is very Important here to avoid violence and Killings in these parts. When talking to a person of different religion, find the basic commonality and built from there, example "stealing is wrong". Use words with vague definition, in the dialogue, notice that the Pope never define who or what he meant by "God" in a multi religious dialogue session, this allows the leaders of other religions to avoid the definition on GOD and work on cooperation like charity or talk about social issues like drugs. Most religious persons are guarded against other religions, "they will listen but they don't hear you" if you know what I mean. His statement has what some Asia societies call "Give Face" or for western audience "shown mutual Respect" to the other Religion so in future dialogue sessions, the other Religions will have to hear us out and perhaps have a conversion of heart. Our Pope visiting us here In South East Asia has won the Respect and admiration of Catholics here and many religious and political leaders with his presents and his words. For the Testimonies, A local priest shared with me that during his 1st year as a priest he was lamenting his assignment of anointing the sick and delivering the eucharist to hospitals, then an old Taoist Woman call out to him in the hospital 1 day, she claims that she saw Jesus appearing when he was handing a eucharist to a patient and she convince her whole family to convert. A friend visited a Church in rural Thailand, 1 Priest with 100 people but only 10 of them are Catholic the rest are Buddhist. Southeast of Catholic Junior College is Novena church. It's very popular with non-Catholics and Catholic alike, I have seen Hindus at mass queuing to be bless by the priest, I have seen Islamic headgear left behind at the entrance of the church, people rollout mats and prostrating in front of statues of Saints, Taoist bring offerings of Fruits and Roast Meats for Jesus. Like the 10 lepers, only 1 came back to thank the lord, only a fraction will continue on to be Catholic. Many People of other religions are simply not ready to hear that Jesus is God, so we don't say it out but rather express it with our actions and slowly the Holy Spirit will work on them. If you tell them straight, they will get defensive and close their hearts to Jesus. This is what I have seen living here. To the people who are confused by the Pope statement, my question to you is where in the world are you?
Exactly. I’m an American and it’s basically only Americans that get confused due to a myopic view of everything. Americans would have had even greater problems with the parables spoke by Jesus then the Apostles… who also had trouble.
@@moktarbom U r right! Sharing with friends all the 'hoo ha' in the media. They dont see any issue with His Holiness statement either. For us, who are born n raise in a multi religious country, will understand better and our approach is different.
Thank you for your clarification. I frankly understood our pope Francis as speaking with love to a multireligious crowd and addressing it pretty perfectly and lovingly. I'm pretty confident most people knew he was a man of God and of deep faith and self sacrificing love. God bless you pope Francis. It may be that such audience difficulties are unavoidable. I remember his famous "Who am I to judge?" remark. He was of course giving true Catholic doctrine relevant to all of us who have sins to confess and aren't perfect. He's manifesting God's love for all and probably quite a bit more effectively than I do. Cheers and God bless you and our wonderful mother church .

Dear Trent Horn, this is not a "one-off" isolated teaching from Francis. Much the opposite actually. He has consistently spoken and signed agreements advocating religious indifferentism. He just reaffirmed this yesterday saying that different religious identities are a gift from God. You are the popesplainer. Francis has been repeatedly clear. It was not the apostles forgiving sin but the person accepting Christ as Lord and Savior.

Feeling frustrated on behalf of Roman Catholics right now; Archbishop of Canterbury is doing similar things in the Anglican Church to which I belong. Hopefully this will be swept away soon.
As a Catholic, I want to tell you that because I have an Anglican Father, I seriously discerned following Anglicanism and considered myself one despite being a baptised Catholic. Some years later, I researched the Catholic Church and decided that it was best for me to be a Catholic Christian. I personally also feel bad for the Canterbury Archbishop, because from what I read I am unsure if he deliberately is weakening his Church for the sake of weakening it, I just think he lacks the bravery and fortitude many Catholic Popes had in ensuring the Church never fell into error. After all, the progressive activists have more sway there than in our Church. I do respect some parts of Anglicanism, but from my Catholic bias, I think Anglicanism is what would have happened to Catholicism if Orthodoxy was instead the true Church preserved from error. God bless you and I hope things get better for you and your Anglican church.
But how could the Vicar of Christ make statements so clearly wrong? Whether or not he’s speaking with Magisterial authority is unimportant; and what are we to do with the leader of the Church who can say these things? This is Christianity 101; it’s not like His Holiness misspoke about soteriology.
Yes I would prefer if 100% of his statements were orthodox instead of like 75%. His imprudent speech causes tons of scandal and he has too much responsibility to shoot from the hip like he does.
The Orthodox churches are in schism and accept contraception, divorce, remarriage up to three times and IVF. They are not an orthodox option. People are always twisting Pope Francis’ words. The Holy Father is a human being. Just like you and me. From my perspective, there are “Catholic” UA-camrs who make a living twisting his words and scandalizing the flock. The Catholic Church is the fullness of the faith and truth. It’s okay to acknowledge that some religions get some things right, but ultimately, the Catholic Church has the fullness of the truth. Jesus is the truth, the way and the life. There is no salvation outside of His Church, but God is the judge, and He may save those who by no fault of their own did not receive the Gospel. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t preach the Gospel, but we are commanded to spread the Gospel and baptize in His name. We need to know what others believe to dialogue with them and spread the gospel. We cannot speak past each other if we want to share the Gospel. People have questions that deserve answers. I think acknowledging that we are all seeking God is a good start. All religions are paths to God is true, in the sense that we are all seeking God. An atheist is not actively seeking God, whereas a thiests is. Our job is to be fishers of men and evangelize the atheist and those who are seeking. Dialogue means that we need to hear them out and seek to understand them. The Pope did exactly that. He opened the door for them to enter Catholicism. Yes, sharing the truth is not bashing and denying our beliefs is apostatizing. He shared the truth without denying the Catholic faith nor dismissing anyone. It’s a difficult task. 1 Corinthians 19-23 19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”

All I know is that if my Baptist Pastor made such a statement either formally from the pulpit or informally at a dinner party, he would be asked to explain himself and if he affirmed what he said, then he would be removed from his position. Fidelity to the Gospel message should be a requirement for any church leader. Be it a Pope, Priest, or Pastor. That is one of my big hangups with Catholicism. Neither other Bishops nor the laity can hold the Pope accountable and remove him from office for such nonsense (or any other reason). Someday a Pope is going to make an "ex Cathedra" statement that is against the Gospel, the Scriptures, or Traditional Christian values. It will be interesting to see how the Catholic church reacts. Before anyone says "What about Liberal Protestant Pastors" I would say that the reason they are not being held accountable is because the group as a whole has abandoned the Gospel. Those groups agree with their "liberal" pastors and those individuals that don't just leave for a church that is faithful to the Gospel and traditional Christian teaching. That is why the Mainline churches who have went "woke" are shrinking so quickly.
The thing is this hasn’t happened in Catholicism yet. That’s why Catholicism is the oldest church. Also the Pope is being held accountable, Catholic prophecies by Marian apparitions say if there is no repentance and penance for sins the church will be thrown into turmoil, bishop against bishop, and a final calamity will ensue. Of course this is conditional prophecy, if we repent they will not continue. it seems they are happening as foretold though. Anyway, we have had bad popes before. The church is still here. This pope will show to be a training against modernism. Young Catholics are traditional and actually want Jesus. The age of the boomers Is ending, and the institutions they tried to drag down like the Catholic Church will see a new spring time
The popes offense before God will not be forgotten, and he should be held accountable like Peter who denied Jesus three times. Like Peter, I Hope he repents for this awful denial
You clearly don’t know what ex cathedra is if you think he’ll say it against the gospel. Ex cathedra by definition CANNOT go against the gospel otherwise it isn’t ex cathedra
@@ninjaked1265 Ex Cathedra is whatever the Pope says it is. If the Pope comes out and says "I'm speaking on this from the chair of Peter, the church will now perform Gay weddings" then it is Ex Cathedra. I think something like that is inevitable, as the College of Cardinals becomes more liberal, sooner or later there will be a Pope who will do something like that.
I am a cradle Catholic and I will never leave the Church of our Lord, Jesus Christ. As a Christian, I believe it has the fullness of the Truth. May God guide our Pope back to adhere to Scriptures and doctrines.
The Catholic Church is not the Church of Jesus Christ. Christ does not speak or guide the Pope or the Catholic Church. Actually the Catholic faith doesn't even believe that Christ currently speaks to anyone. Catholics say, He has done all His speaking, the bible is closed, revelation is closed, and miracles are done away. Catholicism is a walking dead man - no offense intended. It has no current revelation to guide it, it is always backward looking, and can learn nothing new from God, only what God has revealed in the past. You need to to look for a Church that says God lives. He speaks now. He has called a prophet, just like in days past because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. A Church that has miracles, and receives current revelation. A Church that believes God will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to His kingdom. A Church that says His words never cease, and miracles continue to those who have faith. Christ church is alive and on the earth - but it is not Catholicism.
The Popes started going south 150 years ago when they started introducing non biblical doctrines Like holinees and perfection of thr Pope, orayers to Mary, worship of Mary, bowing to idols, the doctrine of purgatory... The Catholic Church 1,000 years ago didn't tesch any of these things... Most of them are new doctrines from the last 150 years.

I'm a Catholic from Singapore where this inter reglious forum was held. To give some context to this forum which was organised for young people. Singapore is a nation that emphasizes reglious harmony and peaceful coexistence. We had to, as we are a migrant nation of different races and reglions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Islam and Christianity. I believe that Pope Francis was simply his authentic self. A humble man who understands himself and people of different faiths and reglions. He exercises restraint and reglious tolerance when speaking to others of a different faith. To say to someone who is born and raised in a different reglion that my reglion is the only true reglion and only my believers can enter heaven is one sure way to create animosity and reglious intolerance. This breaks thre reglious harmony in Singapore where Christians workship in a church opposite Muslims who pray in a mosque and after which they leave their places of workship, to work, live and play together. I believe that in the Gosepl, Jesus never denied faith and healing to non-believers of God such as Romans and Gentiles. Jesus showed love, compassion and he gained believers and disciples not by condemning other faiths but by showing love, forgiveness and selflessness. ❤ To evangelise to others doesnt start by saying that your reglion is wrong but by showing how Catholics live a life of love and mercy.
Sounds like "religious harmony" is more important than the truth of Jesus Christ. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Matt 10:34-39
Peace is important but truth is more important. Jesus said he was bringing a sword, and Peter started his public ministry by calling out the false religion of Judaism, which he blamed for the crucifixion of Christ.
It's true that Christ always showed love for everyone including Samaritans, Romans and Gentiles, often praising them and criticizing his fellow Jews. However, he never denied that their faiths and gods were false, incomplete and/or non-salvific. When he spoke with the Samaritan woman at the well in the Gospel of John, he affirms that salvation will come from the Jews and not them, even as he extended love and compassion for her and her people. Christ taught us to love even our enemies, but he He did not instruct us to ignore the fact that we have them. There is a difference between true compassion and selflessness, and indifference and compromise in favor of avoiding conflict or fear of persecution. So while it is certainly best not to start evangelizing by aggressively pointing out other religions are false right away and love, charity and mercy must come first, we cannot deny or obfuscate the truth that Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Islam and even Protestantism are ultimately false. If that alone only leads to persecution of Christians and Catholics by the other faiths, then so be it. As in the Sermon on the Mount, Blessed are those persecuted in His name. Like the martyred saints before us, we cannot continue to give in.
Hi Damien, I'm from Singapore too and was thinking the exact same thing! Thank you for taking the time to share about our country's unique circumstance that I'm actually quite proud of. Seeing the comments here makes me more appreciative of our religious harmony and peace we experience in our country.
I hate it (yes, I hate it), when theologians (I studied theology at the Angelicum) try to twist what the Pope said while at the same time, stretch what the Catholic Church teaches in order not to say that the Pope said something that is not true. It's simple: The Bible and the Church teaches that all religions are path through which people search for God and try to do His will. The Pope said that all religions are a path that take us to God. And I'm sorry to say this, but there's a world of difference between saying that all religions search for God and to say that all religions are paths that take us to God.
I'm familiar with the reasons for the 16th century reformation, but less familiar with the great schism of the 11th century. Why did the orthodox church separate from the catholic church?

@@samueljennings4809 but the Pope made it clear that he wasn't careless, and even double downed on his statement in Rome. And secondly, there can be no carelessness involved when it comes to Jesus Christ being the ONLY Way to salvation.

I admittedly stated it sounds heretical and either the Vatican refuses to question his Holiness on it, or he refuses to clarify it. But HE needs to clarify it, not a press release from the Vatican because outsiders see it as buffoonery and Catholic's jobs are made harder to do.

If a protestant pastor keeps saying things that are way off not in line with basic christian teaching, that it is clearly false doctrine, that pastor should be criticized. Any leader who leads christians who does the same should be scrutinized, whether pastor or pope. If the pope was caught in adultery, we as christians shouldn't object? Very true. The problem is Catholics elevate the pope to have the same authority as scripture at certain times, so to them, his words carry much more weight than my pastor does. And thus, for a catholic to categorically deny something the pope said is very tricky. It's really interesting to diagram the parallels of the current and historical catholic leadership and the 1st century pharisaical Judaism Jesus spoke against.

He literally was on camera and had translators there. An official (doctored) translation of what was sad was published. Saying it was "informal" is dishonest. There are degrees of formality sure, but this isn't him talking to his buddy on a long flight or at an unofficial event like lunch.

All in charity. There are MANY things that the Pope has done that FAR outnumber his misdeeds. Plank out of your eye and whatnot.

If I were to say that all religions are a path to God, and if other Catholics were to show me that what I said was contrary to perennial Catholic teaching, and if I then refused to amend my stance, I would be a formal heretic and no longer a Catholic. The same is true of Bergoglio. It cannot be doubted that he knows what the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church is on capital punishment. It cannot be doubted that he knows what the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church is on Jesus being the only way to the Father. Yet he refuses to conform himself to the truth. So he is indeed a formal heretic and not a Catholic, just as any Catholic would be if he refused to conform himself to Catholic truth. And therefore Bergoglio is also not a valid pope.

You know it's bad when Trent feels like he has to call out Francis.
Trent is a fundamentalist in disguise. Another pride-filled Catholic who doesn't get it.
he's not calling out anyone.

Why would you need to pray for him? Rome tells you he can never teach error on issues of faith and morals.
They are - I make a comparison - like different languages, different idioms, to get there"
Not to defend what the Pope said but when I initially heard it I could maybe see that it related to:
Acts 17:22-31 ESV
[22] So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. [30] The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, [31] because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
The key part being 'that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way towards him and find him'.

Jesus said:
"I am the way, the truth, and the Life, no one come to the father by through Me."

TJMcCarty is Pentecostal and he incorrectly used the word infallibly to his Christian audience and unfortunately non-catholics are taking him at his word. To make war against the Pope is to make war against God, seeing the Pope is God, and God is the Pope." -Moreri's History. (Louis Moréri (25 March 1643 - 10 July 1680) was a French priest and encyclopedist.)
"The leader of the Catholic church is defined by the faith as the Vicar of Jesus Christ (and is accepted as such by believers).
Catholicism creates such popes 😂😂😂....bishops voted him in...
The Pope is right. Everyone complaining is a prideful Catholic who doesn't understand God.
AMEN! I converted because of Catholic theology, not because of a pope. There have been hundreds of popes in 2000 years, but only ONE Church.

Who's your preacher? I bet if we put him under a microscope like the Pope is he'd commit several blatant heresies every single day.

You must not leave the Church. It is Francis who has left it; let us pray that he returns to it.

I'm sorry so many of my fellow Christians are so ignorant. These comments are disgraceful.

I admittedly stated it sounds heretical and either the Vatican refuses to question his Holiness on it, or he refuses to clarify it. But HE needs to clarify it, not a press release from the Vatican because outsiders see it as buffoonery and Catholic's jobs are made harder to do.

"...frequent repetition...". So, how many times does Pope Francis have to repeat this before we know his mind and will on the matter?
Seriously… I think he said exactly what he means
If a protestant pastor keeps saying things that are way off not in line with basic christian teaching, that it is clearly false doctrine, that pastor should be criticized. Any leader who leads christians who does the same should be scrutinized, whether pastor or pope. If the pope was caught in adultery, we as christians shouldn't object? Protestants object when pastors are caught in adultery, and the pope should be no different
Adultery is not nearly as severe for a member of the clergy as spreading false doctrine
The pope his word doctrine is infallible
The problem is precisely that rome says the pope is different. That is why the reformation was needed.

This is why it is crucial that we Catholics know our faith well!! We need to be able to identify heresy and speak out against it as your doing!! It's not like he said some minor mistake. What he said is absolutely unaccessible and he's the pope. A wrong is a wrong and must be said. We're not being in obedient for saying that, we're all sinners after all but for a pope to say something like that is scandalous.
I gotta say, I find this hard to believe that this was a "off the cuff" comment that he didn't mean. I totally get that Catholicism as a whole does not agree with this, but to say he didn't know what he meant is a very far reach.

Sadly the pope hardly says anything about Jesus and salvation these days, seems like he is more happy explaining geo political issues.
Pope Francis wasn't talking in a informal setting.
Then there are other events like Pacha mama, Vigano excommunicado.
Third, the Pope should be held at a higher standard concerning the voice of the church. Being lenient or tolerant of him isn't loving of Jesus teachings.

He literally was on camera and had translators there. An official (doctored) translation of what was sad was published. Saying it was "informal" is dishonest. There are degrees of formality sure, but this isn't him talking to his buddy on a long flight or at an unofficial event like lunch.

Ironic from a follower of the perverted warlord.
It doesn't matter what context you are in. Truth is one and that's Jesus Christ.
Pray for the pope's salvation.
Yeah, given all the blatantly non-Catholic and non-Christian things he's said and done over the years, he seems like an outright apostate or heretic to me at this point
