4L80E Reverse Servo Pin Fix How To + Boost Test Drive | 7875 Turbo 5.3 LS Bagged S10 Wrenching

  • This time on SPPTV Rob works some more on his 7875 turbocharged junkyard 5.3 LS powered S-10, aka: The Blue Ghost. The 4l80e transmission is nice to have in a cruiser with big HP, but this particular one we pulled from the scrap yard in a previous video has had some issues. Rob has had the original 4l80e apart a couple times, and now the replacement 4l80e needs a bit more work to get it working perfectly.
    If you are having problems with your reverse gear slipping with your 4l80e, you may have to do the same thing!

    My reverse got progressively worse over a 4week period. Finally reverse was gone. Shops quoted $1500- $4500.I used crude measuring method . After having a shop weld 1/4 inch to filed it down . End results I added a total of 3/16 inch. Works great no slipping, no hesitation into reverse . Great video. Thank you!

    The tip at 5:00 on measurement was worth the price of admission. Much easier than fabbing up a dial caliper mount / purpose made tools.

    FYI: If you're just repairing the reverse servo pin you do not need to remove valve body. All you need to do to access the last bolt is to remove the solenoid blocking access to that bolt. Much easier than removing valve body. However good advise on welding the pin. About an 1/8 of a inch is usually good.

      @forevertools67 4 місяці тому

      Yes, you don't need to remove or even loosen the valve body. Remove the solenoid to access the bolt. I would add, that to then remove the servo, use your fingers to pull the piston into the cover, to allow you to slide it all out from under the corner of the valve body.

    I put a new band in mine and it seems like the pin I have is too long... I haven't measured it quite yet but when I tighten the cover down the output shaft doesn't really turn anymore. Thanks for the vid, this helped me in 2024

    If you file just a tiny bit of valve body and the accumulator cover it will slide in and out as long as you remove & install piston with the cover together.

    Now I am going to have to do some digging. I do not have any of the accumulators in my 2006 4l80e. Mine has the jakes delete, so I am guessing, it was the valve body. At least it's fixed! I've used Marvel in the past, lately, I've use Z-max.

    Good info I am about to do the same thing. I have a 5.3 with a lifter tick and tried the marvel and flushes and it always came back. I switched to 0w30 and the lifter tick is gone and it hasn't come back for a few weeks. Wish me luck on the 4l80 reverse

    Sounds Great. Love s10s, even more if they have a v8 under the hood. They should have come from the factory that way.

    I'm certain your "lifter" noise will persist due to the aluminum block (just as most LS1's were plagued with)

    Did the same to my 4l80e in a plow truck few years back. Had it in and out 4 or 5 times to get length right. Worked good...then sold it before the next winter so dont know how long it lasted.

    Don't think your gas prices are bad. Try living in Vancouver. Regular finally started coming down. Was in $1.60's/litre
