    Rhodium went from 625 USD in 2016 to 30000 in 2021. Palladium went from under 500 to 3000 within the same timeframe. This centainly had nothing to do with stackers shopping around at their local coinshop.
    Also platinum has prooven to be capable of dramatic pricehikes: Between 1977 and 1980 is went from 145 to 960 dollars and between 1999 to 2008 from 350 to 2180 bucks. Well, the future is uncertain and only time will tell I guess...

    For me having Platinum in my stack is diversifying my metal holdings.
    Speculative, with great upside potential, but volatile with it's price swings.
    Definitely a long term hold.

    I just watched this again, three months after you put it out. It really shows how volatile it is, you mentioned spot price of $1100. Today, mid August, it is $925. That's great, I bought an ounce today. Platinum seems to fluctuate within a hundred dollar range, up and down, during a month. Not something to watch every day, except to try to find a low point to buy.

    I have 34 ounces of platinum.. my dollar cost average is 1060 with premium… We’re going to an economic crash. It’s gonna go down but I just like having it. Maybe play the platinum to gold ratio. I have my Gold I have my silver and I have my platinum now I have to find something else to put money into.

    Great take and comparison. Another way to compare two metals is Gold and Platinum. Platinum is about a 40 percent discount to gold, yet is more rare commercially and close to equal or less available than gold as an in Earth metal. That is a pretty big discount comparing to those two, yet people still buy gold. While the premiums are a bit silly, I find it to be a bargain and plan on adding to my early collection. Thanks for another concise video.

  • @Odat
    @Odat Рік тому +4

    Putting price aside, Platinum is a much more impressive metal than silver. It doesn’t tarnish or corrode, doesn’t react with anything, holds up to extreme heats without deforming or discoloring and on top of all its very dense and heavy. It’s a noble metal!
    Add to that the fact that it’s available in the earth crusts in about the same amount as gold but much more geographically concentrated (80% in South Africa) and you have a recipe for much higher prices.
    Also, pretty much all the easy platinum has been mined and now they have to go miles down to get it at a cost of about $850 an ounce last I checked. I don’t see the current prices of platinum as sustainable. I think Platinum price now is a steal!!!. Time will tell but I’ll guarantee you, a few years from now, platinum will easily be back up with gold like it always has been and for good reason.

    Great video, as always. Id love to have a tube of platinum but until im up to my base weight goals for silver and gold im probably going to hold off. The one thing ive noticed for platinum is the buy/sell spread is a lot bigger so it's definitely a long hold metal. It is beautiful stuff though. I didn't realize how much more dense it is than silver till recently

    Platinum is very different from Silver, because of density and hardness. I only have a few ounces so far, but will definitely get more. I would not buy bars, fancy or not. I like the 1oz Platinum coins from the Royal Mint or other government mints. If you buy a coin series, some people only buy the Silver or Gold versions of the coin, but not many get the Platinum. So, I think that the Platinum price will go up, plus I think it will increase in collector value.

    Palladium goes 1.5 times the distance over platnium, lately it's been a few hundred dollars over and is a bargin.

    The word platinum is based off of the Spanish word for "little silver" and it was initially viewed as "undeveloped" silver - they thought that it needed a few more centuries or millennia to turn into actual silver - so they threw it away as junk metal.
    Due to the appearance of platinum ore and the difficulty in refining it, many cultures also viewed it as trash and discarded it, meaning the actual amount of mined platinum is higher than we think and that there are also likely some pretty good sized trash piles of platinum ore laying around the planet.
    As for why folks think it's more valuable than gold, I'm betting that's got a lot to do with the old AD&D game as the value table for coins was copper>silver>gold>platinum - I know I was surprised to learn that platinum was only worth around 60% of what gold' is worth.
    To answer the question of which is best to stack though, I think it ultimately comes down to the ability to unload it and lose as little value as possible - if you can't turn something into currency when you need to and/or you're taking a hit huge hit when you do, then it doesn't matter how stable or solid an investment it is.
    That said, I would still score myself at least one platinum eagle - or equivalent - just to have a "platinum piece" to show off to my AD&D buddies.

For most all of my life Platinum has been the almost exotic most highest tier bullion one could own. Now it just kinda sits there wishing it were silver and especially gold. • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  11 місяців тому +1

      I believe what I was referencing was a $200 drop over night or over the course of a few nights, not a gradual drop over the course of eleven months. I think I was also referring to online dealers and not local coin shops. When it's drop is this gradual, shops and online dealers have the opportunity to dollar cost average. But sudden drops in a day/week, and you'll see online dealers pull it from the shelves. If I didn't make that clear, my apologies.

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching! You know it's really interesting, outside the coin collecting world, people use tarnish when talking about the discolored look on silver. In the coin collecting world, they soften the language and call it toning. Tarnish silver isn't less valuable unless it's damaged. Capsules doesn't prevent tarnish/toning, but it can help. Tarnish is the caused by sulfur in the air and exposure to sunlight. If your silver is protected from both, it helps reduce tarnishing/toning.
