The original German receiving system was hidden in a radio installation. It was only discovered and analysed after only radio equipment was discovered in crashed aircraft. By dismantling the radios it was realised that some components were part of an entirely different communication circuit and the cat was out of the bag!
Lorenz as used by Shipping also, there were British Test are very long distance to the Azores for Coastal Command it was called Operation INTONE it was run from RAF Chigwell and there is plaque andvwhatvwas thought to be a grave called Operation Intone butbwas a commeration.
How could an intersecting radio wave make the bombs accurate? You would have to account for the direction and velocity of wind, the speed and altitude of the aircraft, and the barometric pressure to get a good release point. Radio waves disperse the farther they are from the transmitter. So, were the two signals sufficiently narrow to give a reliable and accurate bombing release point?
Radio wave dispersal is dependent on a number of factors including wavelength, frequency, amplitude, modulation and focus. Radar is transmitted (and the echo returned) directionally. Knickbein had a limited range in which it was sufficiently accurate to be of use but the Midlands was within that range. The overlap between the dots and dashed could be directed very accurately so an aircraft 'on the beam' could align itself to overtly the target. The effects of altitude, speed and windage were calculated to give the position at which the cross beam signal would be picked up. We used the system ourselves later on. Called 'Oboe', Mosquitos equipped with the receivers would be used to mark targets in Europe with coloured flares for bomber command. Again, the range was limited and didn't extend to, for example, Berlin. Bomber Command also used the beam approach to guide aircraft to the runway. It provided pilots with a visual instrument in the cockpit in which a needle could be centred between left and right to indicate when the aircraft was aligned with the runway.
Kind of SHURE I had Two Gramps involved with this as Yanks of Brit haratige, one the ETO USAAC B-17's as maybe a first EWO ended with an Auto Break Shop in Beverly Hills working on stars cars? the Other BATTLE for the ATLANTIC in PBY's and such as an EWO he ended with NASA and CA real estate, but I never Asked these questions directly but recalling what they did tell me, my knowlage of then, and History Now! I would Bet some CASH on them as EWO's and maybe an uncle with the Skonk co. and NASA as such a tech. Gramps WOODY joined the Canadians with a US Pilots Lic he paid for under age to go Fight the Battle Of Brittian as Canadian, and RAF, ended as a Yank after D Day! Fought For! and With! EVERY ALLIE in WWII "And the Frence!" RIP GREATEST Thank YOU! I Miss Ya'All, Y'ALL!
Read Prof. RV Jones’ book: Most Secret War for lots of interesting information about the more obscure aspects of the way we fought WW2. He was Churchill’s scientific advisor and intimately involved in the battle of the beams as well as many other scientific endeavours to outwit the Nazis.
Thanks a lot. Very interesting. This is from a time when the blessing and protection of Almighty God was on our nation. Not anymore. Our dis united kingdom has rejected Him .

Excellent video content and production. Spotted some kit in the background I worked on during the cold war. Very enjoyable entertainment! Thank you.
I knew radar was developed just prior to the war, but this explanation of how it was used and the development is fascinating! Thank you!
What an amazing and interesting video, about something that was totally unknown to me,and also a heart warming love story at the end 😊😊😊❤❤
Thanks for this video. It added much to what little I knew about 80 Wing
That was very enjoyable.

@@johngrantham8024 thanks for the explanation.
