Next topic: How to deal with F360 file management. It is completely foreign to normal file processing on any kind of computer. I'm a home user and need to figure out how to deal with the new restrictions coming in October. I'd really like for F360 to give me a way to manage workspaces, delete the ones I don't like, rename and move around in folders I create after the file(s) is/are created. F360 doesn't give me good options there.
I am confused by one feature. When I create a body and move it, my sketch no longer matches where the body is located. Is there an easy way to make sure the sketch follows the new body position?
1:40 Right click and select Copy - No, dammit, you can't because that option is not there. "Notice how when you paste it opens the Move/Copy dialog" - No, it doesn't. That would just be too easy. EDIT: You neglected to mention that you are in Edit mode -- note the green check in the top right corner. If this check is not present, you can't copy and paste. For us beginners, it's really important that you tell ALL the steps.
He literally explained that several times. He said you needed to be in the sketch plane (meaning the edit mode) because he said it doesn’t allow you to paste it into floating space, he said you had to be on a sketch plane
I just want to say thank you so much. The copy and past of this program has been so frustrating for me for years. You have the best explanation ever. Thank you thank you thank you.
the "copy" selection is apparently no longer in the updated version of fusion 360? i've tried looking at evey area in this video, the option isn't there. control c or v does nothing
Kevin I did not realize how important it was to understand the nature of sketches and it’s relationship to how it reacts like a word document . That was very helpful . Not sure I remember you explain it in any of the beginners videos ,but seems to be a key point newbies need to understand . I am a little reluctant to give advice as I never want you to think all the other training videos were not appreciated . I know these video take a lot of work and it is very difficult to teach something with so many interdependent concepts plus you may have covered it and I was not focused .
You're exactly right, Dave! It's hard to explain some concepts without telling the student to go learn 5 others first...and then they forget what they were trying to learn :)
Great tutorial. As a newbie in this modeling space, the vagaries of how to do things which are simple in other software (eg copy and paste) can be very frustrating. I appreciate the clear explanations of WHY and how to proceed. Thank you for the content!
It is so very helpful to have you calling out the key strokes as you go along! I have so much to learn and you pack it in there perfectly. Every 3 minutes a list of knowledge widgets. THANIKS!
Thank you. This video finally allowed me to copy sketches! Here in mid-2022, I think Fusion 360 could've been smarter about it though. As in when pasting without an active layer, it should be smart enough to bring up a dialog informing the user as such. Then provide option to automatically create a new sketch. Example: If user uses CTRL+V without an active sketch, then Fusion 360 brings up a dialog with message "An active sketch is required to paste a sketch. Create a new sketch?" The user then should have the options of OK or CANCEL. Would save sooo much confusion around the world!
@@ProductDesignOnline I had no clue as I'm rather new to Fusion 360, but I did manage to succeed by copying and pasting the lines of the sketch. Thanks anyway!
Great vid pointing out a difference between components and bodies I don't normally think about - component is the whole package, body is just a body...
Thanks for making this excellent video! You have the knack of being able to accurately match what you are saying and doing, in real time, without skipping or missing critical steps. I just now realized how many of your videos I've watched and been able to make real progress in my F360 learning. Subscribed!
This is really helpful for newbies I'm sure, and though I've used Fusion a lot I was definitely surprised to see what you can do with pasting sketches after turning off design history. I almost never work with design history off. One of my biggest complaints about Fusion is the inability to link mirrors like you can with component instances/copies. Solidworks allows you to create an "off-hand" mirror which is linked to the original component and updates with any changes to the original. Really wish you could do that with Fusion instead of needing to roll back in time to before you mirrored the part to make changes that update the mirrored version. Copying sketches seems to universally have the same issue.
Hi, Seth IPG. As former SolidWorks user myself, I feel your frustration. There are lots of quirks that Fusion 360 has that will hopefully have new solutions in future updates. I also rarely work with design history off, because it's so critical to be able to go back and edit things. Have a happy holidays and a happy new year! Cheers, Kevin :)
The fact that Fusion 360 has been around this long and still can't get a simple, intuitive method of copy and pasting things is pretty sad. Autodesk used to make good products.
Another great video Kevin. Your videos have actually made me want to use Fusion 360, not dread it! While I am still very much a beginner, at least I understand what I am doing now. One video I would love to see is your version of an explanation of G0, G1 and G2 surface continuity. I spent hours trying to figure out why I kept getting G1 errors when using the loft command before ultimately figuring out that it was actually my mutli-line, not a spline that was the issue.
Hi, Barry. Glad to hear you're enjoying the tutorials. Definitely keep at it... it can be frustrating at times, but I'm always happy to help if you run into roadblocks. Thanks for the video suggestion! I've added that to my video topics list. Surface continuity is definitely something I need to cover more in-depth. If not full on video, at least a portion of a video. Cheers, Kevin :)
Thanks, that saved a lot of time. I'm just learning Fusion during the weekends and it seems my brain has a slow leak so, I have to redo some things I know I have already done. I thought I needed a practical project to help focus, , 'motorise the blinds', just a wheel on a stepper motor to drive a bead chain right? A sale came up, bought a cheap 3D printer, did a quick sketch on a bit of paper, converted to Fusion, two weekends later I found out the sample filament they give you is not enough to complete the job. BUT, it took me almost 3 hours to figure out how to do the 'D' shape hole for the shaft as a push fit and two test prints to get it right. This clip means two things. One I can copy parts from project to project saving time. Two I will be back here to remind me how. Make that three, my wife's reaction to when I install the project.
I came here to find out why I couldn't copy a sketch (and now I can) and then I also learned a ton more. I could have done without the non-parametric workarounds (who does that anyway?) - but with multiple rewinds I was able to grasp it all. Thanks
When I create a sketch, I can get multiple instances of a structure, but then if I try to copy the copy, move/copy only gives me the "move" option. The "Create copy" is grayed out. I have to do the same thing again multiple times. Surely there's a way to make copies of a copy?
It seems like when I paste new a component, and move it to the side so it is no longer "on top" of the original -- and then try and MOVE an element in the underlying sketch geometry of either component, the new component body SHIFTS BACK to its original position in the same spot as the copied one. This doesn't happen when I change the size of the sketch geometry, just when I try to move elements. So it still seems like its kind of tied. I saw something online about disabling "capture position" but it looked to be an old version of F360 and I cannot find that same option on the most current version. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the tutorials. When I paste New component, the Sketch is still tired with the original. When I try to edit sketch of the new paste component It send me back to the sketch of the original component. What I want to do is position the new paste component with sketch Dimension. Any advice? Thank you.
I have image of my heat block is there a way of getting the heat block into fusion 360? I need to make a mold for a silicone soak can you help me please please 🙏
I've come to the conclusion that copy/paste doesn't exist in Fusion 360. I have watched every tutorial, I have followed them to the letter. I have still never been able to copy and paste anything, in Fusion.
I'm finding your videos very helpful! I'm new to Fusion 360 and really learning a lot from this channel. Thank you! Looking forward to more. Subscribed.
Awesome video super well done thank you :). Just wanted to convey something I came to youtube to get an answer for. maybe someone else can benefit as well. all the sketches you copy pasted here where not fully defined and therefore the pasted geometry was not also. My issue is fully redefining the sketch once its been moved. maybe and additional idea for a future video! Cheers thanks again!
Thanks for the tutorials. I have a question about copying a fully defined sketch (ie. constrained and with projections) from one design file to an other. Once you try to introduce the sketch to the second design file sketch, obviously the dimensions are still there but all blue, unconstrained. Now, I thought that logically the sketch was copied all tied together and it was only a matter to link the copied sketch to a known (common) geometry, giving this way an "anchor point" for the copied sketch. But sadly even using the move "point to point" in a fully defined point on the new sketch doesn't anchor the copied sketch and it remains blue... I was doing this to save some time and using the same sketch between different project files. But doesn't seems to work, any suggestion. Thanks
Newbie here. Just a few simple projects under my belt. How do you start with a component? When I start designing in F360, my sketch opens in its own sketches folder, not nested under a component. Also, when I copy and move my sketch, the copied sketch doesn't have it's own sketch file under a folder, it stays associated with the original.
does this still work? im in sketch mode and cannot get anything to copy. the only option i get is move/copy, with no notion of the word "copy" anywhere else.
IF I try to use the copy/ paste new for a component into a new design, an error pops up for a brief moment then a copy/move block comes up and asks me to chose what I want copied, basically it fails.
Hey Kevin. So I have a design which ultimately looks like a bath shape. In sketch mode I can create the rectangle fine. Then after extruding it next step I shell it. Now I have a rectangular bath. Only I want the underside to be curved. Copying that if a bath. How do I go about doing that? Cheers.
Hi, James. There are many routes to make the bottom curved. The simplest would be to apply fillets to the bottom half before you shell it. If you want a more advanced (defined) curve then I would recommend setting up side profiles, resulting in geometry that can be used with the Loft command (instead of Extrude). Cheers, Kevin :)
Thanks for the reply and wish you Merry Xmas Kevin. Ok so I did it. Slightly rudimentary maybe but still. I went about it a different way the next day. What I did was to sketch it out and then do the curve underside first. Then to shell it and not the other way around. Then unside the bath shape I used the press and pull function till I had the floor of it flat. Once achieved I began creating the circles and wxtruding them for my rotary drive unit im copying which is on the table in front of me. Big question. How do I stop fusion flipping my on screen design which happens regularly. Turns it 180 degrees so I have to then readjust it. Very annoying.
@@jamesbarratt593 Hi James. Unfortunately, there is not currently a setting or way to have that flipping issue turned off without turning off the entire "Auto look at sketch" feature. However, if you turn that off entirely then you will have to look at the sketch manually (with the viewcube or display settings) each time. A feature to do so was requested on the idea station a couple of years ago. I remember as this sometimes annoys me as well...but they obviously haven't implemented a solution yet. Wishing you a Merry Xmas and a happy new year! Cheers, Kevin :)
Dude that is a game changer. If I have to endure that repeatedly I am sure it will annoy me so much that I wont want to use it so much. How stupid that it does it. Anyway we shall see. Then say that you have a face you want to press pull to close an edge and you just cant get to it for the sides of a box in your way, is there a solution. Can you click on a side of a box and temporarily hide it like in system analysis so you can fix the place you want to fix?
@@jamesbarratt593 You would want to use the "Section Analysis" from the "Inspect" dropdown menu to essentially temporarily cut away the parts of your model that are in the way. The nice thing about section analysis is you can hide/show it in the Browser, so you can turn that on and off as needed.
I think your vids are very intuitive to your audience and i for one appreciate what you're doing...i had a question though what's the difference between using copy and paste and mirror and which one would you recommend?
Great question! it really depends on the use case. Mirror will literally make things opposite...so if you have threads or certain types of parts that can't truly be mirrored then you'll want to copy and paste
hey... nice video, pretty straight forward... still can't do it. For some reason I don't get the paste option while i'm editting the sketch i'm trying to paste to... weird. I can copy the sketch features in the same sketch environment, but can't do it in a different file. Is it a settings thing??
how to bind a sketch to a body you are working with. I understand how to get the sketch to be defined on the face of the body plane, but not lock the sketch to the plane that is actively being sketched on. not sure if that makes sense. Thanks for you vids! i have learned a lot.
I want to be able to duplicate a component and then be able to modify the underlying sketch without affecting previous components that also used that sketch.. how do I do that? ie. tell the new component to make a copy of the sketch that I can edit. When I created a new "paste new" component, there is no history or any sketch associated with it. Seems to just be "base feature"
There should be a sketch as long as the Sketch is nested underneath that component before you copy it. Can you double-check that the sketch is in the correct place?
@@ProductDesignOnline no... no sketch "underneath" - if you mean below or inside it in tree - i have main tree base then separate branches for Sketches, Bodies - I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but that's where F360 seems to put things by default. The component I am trying to copy is an extruded sketch, which then gets further shaped by another extruded body from another sketch (using Cut method). I then I think used "make component from body" on finished piece to separate it out on tree and make it possible to save as STL separately. The entire history of making it is basically throughout the Timeline history. Anyway I gave up trying to copy/modify it - just ended up having to rebuild the new version of component by starting from beginning again.... copied the two underlying sketches and modified to new shapes, then extruded and cut them again. Very slow having to do all again, just to make slight modification to shape of original component 😞
Kevin to create a 1 x12 x 1/8" interconnecting steel bar to hold slide rails in place using a series of duplicate top and bottom extruded flanges; should I use the bar as the base and copy and paste in modules of the flanges - or is there a better way ? Thanks Richard Cherry
Hi Richard. When possible, always copy/paste or pattern solid bodies instead of sketches. A good way to think of it... -Copy/Paste or Pattern Bodies = when each object is technically its own individual part -Copy/Paste or Pattern Sketches = when all the sketches make up one single part
@@ProductDesignOnline Kevin - Thank You. You just saved me from going down the wrong path and hours of wasted time. As you indicated, I will create a series of separate Components with Bodies, duplicate some, and assemble them into the finished part. I Love THE DETAIL In Your Videos. I Use The Transcripts Extensively. Very Much Thanks Richard
Any tips to paste constrained sketches so the new pasted version is still constrained? Seems every time I paste a sketch, the lines turn blue. Everything looks the same but if I try to move the sketch around using constraints, everything goes bonkers...
I would suggest copy/paste a component with the desired sketch (if possible). Constraints should copy with, but it's hard to say without seeing it. You will have to constrain the new copy/pasted sketch to the origin point of the new sketch.
Hi, nice video! How I can paste a lot of the same sketch form? I need to paste the same circle in a lot of positions in the same sketch and it's not placed in rectangle or circle pattern. Thx!
I would suggest using either equal constraints or symmetry constraints based on the location spacing. It's hard to say exactly without know what you're sketching...but definitely try to use constraints.
I select a body, hit 'M'; I'm offered a move/copy box. Sometimes the 'create copy' box is available to check, sometimes it's greyed out. Why? Other functions seem to appear/perform randomly!?!
I understand that it can feel random, but there is a method to the madness... There are just a lot of variables at play. Most importantly is whether or not your component is active and whether or not the bodies are grouped underneath the components. Second, the timeline marker needs to be all the way at the end of the timeline because of parametric modeling.
@@ProductDesignOnline But I hit 'M' once, & the box is grey, I hit it again, (or for the umpteenth time!) & it's available - or not! I cannot see what I'm doing differently. Other things seem similarly random, & for no apparent reason, (e.g. rotate; + or - angle?)
When I copy/pasteNew a component and then move it over the origin changes but when I open the sketch the sketch opens at the old origin... Idk how to fix this
This sounds like the expected behavior because editing the sketch (or any item in the timeline) rolls back the timeline marker. Every feature beyond it in the timeline does not 'exist' yet. Are you having any issue(s) with something related or was this just confusing/surprising (which I totally understand... it is a bit awkward)?
@@ProductDesignOnline It was definitely weird! My problem was that I have a canvas with different gem shapes and needed to copy the component, move it over to the next gem shape and then barely alter the sketch to match the new shape. I needed to do this many, many times so it would have been extremely annoying to do it that many times from scratch when I have one that is 'pretty close' right there. Since it was jumping back to the old origin it was not on top of the next gem so I couldn't easily line it up or change it based on the picture. How I fixed it was pretty simple and it lines up with your experience of editing the sketch rolling back the timeline but it took me hours to figure out what I needed to do. After copying and pasteNEWing a component, I did a move command on the component so that the move command was in the timeline and then I dragged the move command back to before the sketch existed (the newly pasted one not the original). Thanks for checking in! If I hadn't figured it out yesterday then your comment would have completely solved it for me so I really appreciate it. I also appreciate all of your videos! I have learned so much already. ❤️
How do you copy a body and keep all its history. So for example I can change an extrude I made on the original body but on the new one not the original.
@@ProductDesignOnline so if I create a component from body then copy the component and paste new it will retain all parametric timelines that apply to it and copy that timeline over as well so I can individually change the history only affecting that part?
Kevin, your videos have been a GREAT help in learning Fusion 360. I find them useful in making real objects. I am still very much a beginner, but I am using my beginner knowledge, and your UA-cam video's to help the students at my school use Fusion 360. I have one question. I find that using the Create Sketch feature you use at 6:35 does not work for me. I follow you exact steps, but I do not see the planes between the axis displayed so I can click on them. Any idea where I went astray? Thanks
Hi Richard. Are you referring to when using the copy function of "Move/Copy" command? If so, here's the reason - knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Create-copy-command-missing-from-the-Move-dialog-within-Fusion-360.html
Hey Kevin, I'm commenting because I've got a pretty urgent question about 3D printing. If I needed to print three of the same box but as individual parts, would I have to print the design of the box three times; is there a way to put three boxes on one design and hit print just once? Sorry if it's a dumb question haha
Hi, TheGoldenLlama. You can copy your components or bodies in Fusion 360, to make 3 of the same box. Then, when you have the "Export as STL" dialog open you can select the bodies/components, making sure all 3 are selected. The second option would be to copy and paste in your 3D printers slicing software. I use Cura, which is pretty simple. You can simply use the standard CTRL/CMD + C and CTRL/CMD + P to copy and paste the box until you have 3. Cheers, Kevin :)
Great Video. I have a question, please help. I've finally been able to copy components from one design to another, but I need the sketches to follow as well so that the copied component can be editable. How do I do that?
Instead of copying, go to the Data Panel and right-click on a design and select "Insert into Current Design". This will place it in the open/active file. You can break the link if desired, but the entire file/component, including the sketch will be placed there.
Great video! One thing I've noticed when I copy items is that the number of items selected increases as you copy/paste. See 6:48 mark. You have a square and three circles, but it has copied 62 items. Why does it do that?
Great question, Ted. I should've talked about that more in the video...but that is because you're not just selecting and copying the square and circles, but ALL of the sketch constraints and sketch entities as well. That means any sketch point, constraint, or anything else selected will be copy and pasted. By the way, thanks again for the coffee :) Cheers, Kevin
Hi c P. Those types of textures, which I would consider "Complex Patterns," would have to be done in another piece of software and brought into Fusion 360. Fusion 360's parametric nature doesn't do well with things like that because it would have to re-process the pattern any time you make a change that affects it. Autodesk Mudbox can be used in conjunction with F360 - www.autodesk.com/products/mudbox/overview
@@ProductDesignOnline Thanks. Will check it out. I am creating solid shapes in Fusion for making a pourable mold. I have seen where Fusion Cam capabilities has some applicability but seems very limited.
Hi Mike. You can project a Sphere to a sketch if you switch the Project command to "bodies." In the project dialog, you will need to select "bodies" for the "Selection Filter". It defaults to the "specified entities" option. Cheers, Kevin :)
Hi. In the section 'Copying one sketch to another sketch' there's a much simpler way to COPY/PASTE the sketch by selecting the sketch (CTRL+C) followed by a CLICK in an EMPTY SPACE then paste (CTRL+V)
I've been watching with such frustration,,, been back and forth from your page to my design and my fusion does not have "paste as new" no matter what I try..any help????
OK, so my brain hurts - but not quite es much as it did! Certainly cleared up some of my confusion even though I try to use project rather than copy/paste. I think once I've watched this a couple more times I should have this more or less nailed (fingers crossed!).
Hi, Andy. I definitely recommend using Project and Intersect when possible over copying sketches. Generally those are much easier to manage and to help keep models predictable. Cheers, Kevin :)
Dummy question Kevin, if you allow me... I want to duplicate a part I designed on Fusion 360 and copy it to a new file and modify the sketches to make some variation based on the original design. Is it something doable ? Or did I miss something on your video ? Thank you for your future reply.
The easiest way is to open the file, then do a "save as" with a new file name. Then you can edit away as you like with no links to the previous file retained.
Hi, Paul. Thanks for the suggestion. I do have it on my video topics list to cover the best ways to Move/re-orient bodies/components...so I will definitely try to do that at some point! Cheers, Kevin :)
Kevin, Thanks for an awesome Fusion 360 Series that makes learning easy. I would like to see information on making a SVG File like you inserted in your Absolute Beginner Video where you made the 3D stamp with handle. I tried to edit your downloaded SVG file to change the text to fit my use and could not get it to work. Thanks again Kevin
Hi, Gary. Glad to hear you're enjoying my tutorials. I wasn't planning on doing a video on creating an SVG, since that cannot be done within Fusion 360. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) can be made in several graphics programs. I use Adobe Illustrator, but a free alternative would be Inkscape. There are many tutorials out there for Inkscape. There are also several SVG creation web apps (some free) if you do a Google search. Cheers, Kevin :)
Okay, thanks for your reply Kevin. I will search for other UA-cam Videos on SVG File creation. I use Corel Draw and don't have an issue with creating the graphics portion to the same size as the stamp plate(in Corel Draw), my problem is that when I insert my SVG File into Fusion 360, the scaling is off and my graphic is offset too far and too large to fit the stamp plate. I have looked for scaling controls but haven't found anything that helps yet. Anyway, I am sure that will be covered in the SVG File creation videos. Thanks again Kevin, I am a fan and intend to support and follow you while I improve
@@scabahorn Hi, Gary. Yep, I would recommend that you create the SVG at the size before inserting it into Fusion 360. Since Fusion 360 has limited capabilities with SVGs it will help avoid and errors with trying to scale it. You can, however, click and drag on the corner manipulator icon that is next to your SVG design (While using the Insert SVG feature). That will let you scale the SVG file right in Fusion 360. Cheers, Kevin :)
@@ProductDesignOnline seriously, there are many people on UA-cam with fusion videos and many are good, but yours are so clear, to the point, and you still manage to explain the details. Superb
AS of Feb 2020 the copy paste by hot keys is still very intermittent and the Move with copy selected is the only thing that works every time. Even the right click does not always show paste if a shortcut Ctrl+c has been used. Kind of reminds me of samsung phone android implementation on my note8 . May work, may not.
Hi Michael. I can't say that I've seen issues with that paste function not working. Usually, it is because the user is trying to paste a component in the same component which isn't allowed. Can you confirm that you have your top-level component active before trying to paste/paste new?
@@michaelryan2622 Strange. Copying a sketch should work with the shortcut (CTRL/CMD + V) or the right-click and paste. I would recommend posting on the F360 support forum in case its a bug that needs to be fixed - forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/bd-p/962
Wrong approach...but....I created a fancy column with a wrap around snake, split it in half, copied it. I can't seem to move them separately. I want them to be parametric which is why I split them because ColumnH is somewhat indeterminate at this play stage. How stupid is this?
You offer a course with skill share and are we are expected to to just sign and go. NO prices anywhere, NO way to contact them, can you clarify this please?
Hi, Hector St-Jacques. Sorry for any confusion. Skillshare is an online course site where you pay a membership to access their entire catalog of courses. I put some of my content on there as I cannot handle all of the video streaming on my own website at this time. If you use my instructor referral link (www.skillshare.com/r/user/kevinkennedy) you will get two months of free access. After the two months end, you can either cancel without getting charged or you can choose to pay monthly or annually. To access the pricing you need to click the "Go Premium" button in their website header (while signed in with a free account). The best value is the annual price which is $99. That comes out to $8.25/mo. Otherwise, if you pay month-to-month the price is $19. I hope this clarifies any confusion! Cheers, Kevin :)

Finally found the info I needed around the 10:00 mark. I was copying a sketch and was unable to edit it. Thank you!

the "copy" selection is apparently no longer in the updated version of fusion 360? i've tried looking at evey area in this video, the option isn't there. control c or v does nothing

I did not realize how important it was to understand the nature of sketches and it’s relationship to how it reacts like a word document .
THANIKS!
This series is a gold mine to me, no matter how many times I watched.
Thanks, Sun Peter! Glad to see you're still learning with them :)
I have been trying to copy and paste an object to a new file, but the option for paste doesn't show. @ 8:15
I can Copy, but whenever I right click anywhere else, there's no "Paste" option in the list. Any idea why?
Are you in an active sketch when you try to paste?
@@ProductDesignOnline I had no clue as I'm rather new to Fusion 360, but I did manage to succeed by copying and pasting the lines of the sketch. Thanks anyway!
Great vid pointing out a difference between components and bodies I don't normally think about - component is the whole package, body is just a body...
Thanks for making this excellent video! You have the knack of being able to accurately match what you are saying and doing, in real time, without skipping or missing critical steps. I just now realized how many of your videos I've watched and been able to make real progress in my F360 learning. Subscribed!
Thanks, Greg! Glad to hear you're learning a lot :)
2021 - This content is still amazing and valuable, especially to complete beginners like me.
What if there's no option to paste the sketch or create a copy?
...you have a gift... The gift of teaching :-)
thanks for the kind words, Andrea! :)
Ok none of that helped for me, I still can't copy and paste the sketch I want from one file to another :(
Old post but you can use the 'insert derive' and pick off any of the sketches you need from other models into another model.
Must have skipped a step. Everything needs to be in sketch mode.
The fact that Fusion 360 has been around this long and still can't get a simple, intuitive method of copy and pasting things is pretty sad. Autodesk used to make good products.
thanks . that exactly what i was searching for . i wish u the best m8

Glad to hear that, Kevin! Best of luck with your projects :)
I came here to find out why I couldn't copy a sketch (and now I can) and then I also learned a ton more. I could have done without the non-parametric workarounds (who does that anyway?) - but with multiple rewinds I was able to grasp it all. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
A fair amount of folks work in Direct Modeling mode (particularly those who plan to export to other programs for Games, etc).
thank you for your videos they help tremendously
When I create a sketch, I can get multiple instances of a structure, but then if I try to copy the copy, move/copy only gives me the "move" option. The "Create copy" is grayed out. I have to do the same thing again multiple times. Surely there's a way to make copies of a copy?
hey i can't get it to work wont copy and theirs no paste
Well explained. Thank you for sharing!

Move / Copy Sketch Autodesk Fusion 360 (Works 100%) - Mover / Copiar Sketch (Funciona 100%) ua-cam.com/video/hpF06IgYiD0/v-deo.html
Cheers thanks again!
at 6:45 why is the pasted sketch upside down?
CREATE > New Component. This is the "first rule of Fusion 360" -- always start with a New Component!
does this still work? im in sketch mode and cannot get anything to copy. the only option i get is move/copy, with no notion of the word "copy" anywhere else.
Good video thanks Kevin
Thanks, Henry! Glad to hear you enjoyed it and I appreciate you watching and commenting. Cheers, Kevin :)
how to bind a sketch to a body you are working with.
Great video, thanks Kevin.
Thanks, TheMoviesfable! As always, I appreciate the support. Wishing you a happy holidays and a happy new year! Cheers, Kevin :)
How do you copy text to display on front and back ?
Kevin to create a 1 x12 x 1/8" interconnecting steel bar to hold slide rails in place using a series of duplicate top and bottom extruded flanges; should I use the bar as the base and copy and paste in modules of the flanges - or is there a better way ? Thanks Richard Cherry
Hi Richard. When possible, always copy/paste or pattern solid bodies instead of sketches. A good way to think of it...
-Copy/Paste or Pattern Bodies = when each object is technically its own individual part
-Copy/Paste or Pattern Sketches = when all the sketches make up one single part
@@ProductDesignOnline Kevin - Thank You. You just saved me from going down the wrong path and hours of wasted time.
@@ProductDesignOnline Thank you!

Speed on 1.75 and its watchable, without that, takes WAY too long to actually give the info. But the info is there, so thanks!
Glad to hear you figured it out! Well done :)@@Trev625
How do you copy a body and keep all its history. So for example I can change an extrude I made on the original body but on the new one not the original.
You can't do that with bodies, only Components. You would need to use the "Paste New" option when copy/pasting a Component.
Thanks
why is the 'copy box' often greyed out or simply missing?
Is there an option to copy components with mates like in solidworks?
Unfortunately, not at the moment. You can however use/copy subassemblies that have joints... Just not individual components.

OK. So if I copy a sketch into another sketch/file, that sketch can no longer be edited?
By the way, thanks again for the coffee :)
Cheers, Kevin
@@ProductDesignOnline Just saw this, thanks and keep up the great work!
very useful. Thanks!
Clear. No bs. Suscribed.
Good stuff Kevin. Can you show how to create textures on solid objects? Say ribs on snake? Or scales on fish mold?

Please make another video explaining 3:08 Move Type.
@@ProductDesignOnline yes, just trying to copy sketch in same sketch.
@@ProductDesignOnline Yeah, But it does, again I will tell you only use the copy box, because of object focusing problems in fusion 360
Thanks!
Thank you.
perfect thanks
