- Hello, here is some info about the new Eye See ’78 OG
If you don’t feel like sitting through this video, the info is pretty straightforward as is explained below.
We had a customer ask us about why on his vintage ’78 BM, if he set the knob to approx 12 noon and compared it to his Eye See ’78 OG also set at noon, the volume on the ES78 was less.
The short answer is that the original (my personal IC muff) used a 100k LINEAR taper on the output, the ES78 uses a 100k audio/LOGARITHMIC taper.
In no way does this affect the output level of the pedal, it only affects where the knob is set to get the same output. When the knob is turned all the way up, the output is exactly the same. However, in the example above, this can create an illusion of less output.
Why did I (Matt) decide to use the log taper on the ESOG? Because when the tone bypass switch is engaged, the output is greatly increased and I felt that with the increased volume the audio/log potentiometer would allow more fine tuning and make the volume rise feel more natural.

Also note, the taper of this pot can also make unity gain appear past 12 o’clock as well. This is normal.

Great video, do you mind explaining the two taper ideas? does it mean with the one you used there are more "in between" spaces to go to on the vol/eq/sustain? thanks!

Why didn’t you make it a stomp switch for the bypass. That my only gripe with this pedal.
Look at a mojo hand fx 1979. It has that option. But this is probably one of the best big box modern representations of the op-amp muffs. Both great pedals
So do i have to get the eye see 78 modded to sound more like the original?
No. This doesn't change the pedal's sound. Just the behavior of the volume knob and how even the taper is as you turn it up.
