I prefer standalones because I don't have to worry about picking it up and it being the 12th book in a 79 book series. Also, everything gets wrapped up easier and it tends to not have that dragging-on-for-an-unreasonable-amount-of-time feeling to it.
Exactly. It’s like “here you go. Boom. Story told. Enjoy” I don’t even read books that have a sequel. I just wanna get to the point lol, something straightforward. I understand sequels and triologies, but if a story can be told in just one book, then do that. Don’t stretch it out to the point where it doesn’t look like there will be a resolution - like, write a soap opera tv show instead! Lol
The books listed below: 1. The Book Thief 2. The Fault in Our Stars 3. A List of Cages 4. The Unexpected Everything 5. The Sun is Also A Star 6. Fangirl 7. Salt to the Sea 8. The Hate U Give 9. The Upside of the Unrequited 10. History is All You Left Me 11. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender 12. Heartless
I feel like i'm the only person who don't like the story to have a deeper meaning? Like I don't want to read John Green, because I know I wont end up feeling happy when I finish it and I don't want to feel sad when reading. I probably sound childish, but I really don't like reading books about serious stuff, cuz i get that enough in life, so when I read I just want to be happy and bubbly? Am I a bad person for this? I feel like everyone looks down on me for not reading those kind of books..
Kira Jeppesen nah fam, I gets you. Personally I love reading books with deeper meanings (since I'm still a teen) and I can pull much more from it then just the main story. Sorry I have no recommendations, but I thought that I would just tell ya that I think your awesome and what you read is awesome too. No hate here. Just keep reading 😊
You read whatever makes you happy! There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to read something that doesn't have a deeper meaning to it, as long as you enjoy what you're reading 💜
I want to read so many of them books but haven't gotten a chance to pick them up yet. I tried to read John Green but never really got into his books. I think I might retry them because you think so highly of them and it was a while back when I attempted to read his books. I also love your videos and I wouldn't mind if there were reoccurring books on the Top 15 YA books video. Thank you for getting me back into reading!! Love you so much xx
Long Change I can feel the pain I'm writing on my iphone. I hear what your saying. I love that so many people have different opinions about books. I read john green ages ago. I didn't realise that he was a big author. My reading style has changed a lot since then so I am very open to suggestions (If you have any I would love to hear them!) and I don't have any friends who are into books so book tube is what I turn to. Especially hailey who in my opinion is the best booktuber.
Lizzi Hunter I personally don't like John green like I read paper towns and the fault in our stars, I found them really boring and the writing style is just not for me ... the plot was really predictable and ridiculous...
Lizzi Hunter then I really advise you to not read John green's books... they sucks so bad 😫 especially the fault in our stars... I feel like I was being lectured about cancer and about to get a degree for it ... and I fuvking fall asleep when I was reading that book. But I hate sad tragic romance in general, idk i just think they are all really predictable and love at first sight ...
I choose not to because I have done a survey before and the result was the majority of people wouldn't watch the video if I put them in the description so I choose not to do so. Sorry!
Hailey in Bookland you're absolutely right. I feel sad when booktubers even show the pictures of the books before the video starts because it's like you already know what they will say and I want to be surprised. Thank you for always surprising us! ♡
I can understand and even appreciate your reasoning. However I am not familiar with any of the books or authors you mentioned and I personally need more than a shaking, half covered title/author. I loved your list, I loved the way you talked about the books but the way you did this video made trying to make a list for tracking them down later make the video take 3 times as long as it actually was. In future videos could you please try give me 1 moment per book where I can pause to clearly see the title and author?
I love that Hailey is from Canada and realizes how real the racism is in the United States even tho she doesn't live here. It's so true bc everyone in America tries to act like racism is over. But it's not
Najjah The United States is literally one of the least racist countries in the world. Racism exists wherever you go, but it’s not as rampant as people would have you believe.
Hailey i started watching your videos for quite a while now and I just wanted to tell you that the way you talk about books is so amazingly magical and I became a reader because of you so Thank you ❤️❤️.
right off the bat, you've talked about two of my favourite, FAVOURITE books! i can't see what else you've got to share. i will be listening very intently and, hopefully, i'll find some brilliant TBRs!
Fangirl, The Unexpected Everything and The Upside of Unrequited are definitely my favorites from this list and some of my favorite books ever!!! I completely agree about TUOU It was suuuuuch a relatable read, It was literally like I was reading about my life!
Aw, I was hoping for much more fantasy since I'm not a contemporary reader but I understand how you're more into contemporary so that's obviously going to be more on your list. There are actually a lot of hidden gems when it comes to fantasy stand alones. ;)
Holly Hearts Art hey! I'm really interested in fantasy standalones, do you have any particular recommendations? I always struggle to find those, so if you have any in mind... :)
Kaisu I recommend the Graceling companion novels by Kristin Cashore. There are three of them (so I guess technically it is a trilogy, argh) but they can be read as a stand-alone just fine. You should also try Heartless by Marissa Meyer.
Kaisu Fantasy standalones are generally really difficult to find just because of the world-building that goes into it. Ember in the Ashes is really good though, and can be read as a stand alone (I didn't like the sequel very much)
Holly Hearts Art For a fantasy standalone, I would recommend The Night Circus! It's one of my favorite books! 😊 I would also recommend Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell! It's a Peter Pan retelling that's a little bit dark. 👍
Hailey we know why r u not putting books names on description box thats fine😘 but plzzz write name on ur video when show us the book because some times we can't get your word or can't see name on tha book cover soooooo plz put name on ur video not on description..
I LOVE your book recommendation videos!!! They have gotten me out of so many reading slumps :) I just started Unexpected Everything and I'm loving it! I would love to have a video of completely new favorite reads!
I love your hair! ❤️️ Great recommendations! Yes a Top 15 YA books updated would be awesome. It could be interesting with completely different titles with the link of your previous video 👊🏼
I got mad flashbacks to sitting alone reading and crying my eyes out when you mentioned History Is All You Left Me and Heartless. Gah. They’re both beautiful books.
Okay I haven't even watched the video yet but thank you so much for this video! I've wanted to pick up some new books and I was dying for some stand alone recommendations so this comes at a great time.
Sure, contemporary standalones are fairly easy to find, which isn't the case for FANTASY standalones. Those are much more scarce, sadly. Could you make a recommended reads, fantasy standalones edition? I really struggle finding those and am always on the look out for more to add on my tbr!
The Fault in Our Stars is one of my all-time favorite books. I end up rereading it almost once or twice a year, I love it so much! I'm interested in reading The Unexpected Everything because I just finished reading another Morgan Matson's books! I've heard so much about The Hate U Give and it's already in my shopping cart waiting on my next paycheck 😉
As soon as you said "A List of Cages" I subscribed. Best book ever! And I read 'Turtles All the Way Down' and it was so good and I honestly LIVE for that book!
The same with me!!! I just can't read that book. I really don't want to. I don't know why but I just read 5-10pages and after that I was like.... Nah.. This isn't good and am not gonna read this one.
This is a list of 10 stand alone ya books. Actually 11. No wait also looking for alaska and between shades of Grey and this other book oh and this one is good too but I'm trying to keep this list small.
Hi Hailey! Really love your recommendations, I'm definitely going to check out those I haven't read yet. Talking about John Green & his new book: What do you think about its cover? :)
Loved this video, I always love hearing people's recommendations. As for your question, i'd personally prefer a top YA books/series of ones you havent mentioned in the previous video. I feel like I have a higher chance of running into a book I havent heard about :)
The sun is Also a star. I have read that book. And I feel as if I related so much to Natasha. This book is just such a creative, wonderful booo and the ending is absolutely amazing. I feel as if it ends on a cliffhanger but not a cliffhanger. For anyone trying to decide what to read, THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR
I’m actually reading The Book Thief now and waiting for the movie to come in the mail So far I’m loving the book so far especially listening to an audiobook with it 📖🙂🎧
List of Cages is one I haven't read yet but have been planning to this summer, hopefully will manage to actually do it before the autumn leaves kick in!
Have you read Bone Gap by Laura Ruby? I feel like you would really like it since you loved Ava Lavender. Also, completely agree that Heartless could have an awesome sequel. I want one.
the upside is so relatable - got it in my first owlcrate and kind of was like nope no not for me and then it was like omg this molly is like me so much.
I think you should just pick your current top 15 favorites, even if some would be repeated from the previous video, otherwise they wouldn't be your top 15 they'd be your top 30. I'll watch it either way since you're my favorite booktuber. 😊
I had a hard time getting through Heartless so I gave up reading it. I hate not finishing books I started so I listened to the audio book and I would recommend buying the audio book. It's so well done. Even if you own a hard copy, get the audio book.
I love The Fault In Our Stars!! I read it last month for the first time and it's now one of my all-time favorite books!!! And I love Heartless so freaking much when Jest died I started sobbing it was so heartbreaking
ahhh!!! you should definitely read if i fix you by abigail johnson. It's her debut contemporary ya book following a love triangle that doesn't exactly seem like one and it's just honestly a really nice book to have a warm tea and sit in bed with fairy lights on, just reading.
You're awesome Hailey If you're after more Alice retellings, Gregory Maguire (who wrote Wicked) did one called After Alice. AH. I love standalones. More than series?? I think?? I just love having the story wrapped up in one little place idk.
ALSO AHH, I ALREADY PRE ORDERED TATWD AND I LITERALLY CANT WAIT2&01
i understand completly i just cant read series at all. I havent read a series for 2 years 😂
Sashka sameee..and also I suck at getting caught up w series
J Watch yeah, I'm reading the star bound trilogy rn, and the only reason I'm getting through it is cause they're companion novels.
Sashka UGH ME TOO. I think one of my favorites is Ready Player One. So so so good
The books listed below:
1. The Book Thief
2. The Fault in Our Stars
3. A List of Cages

is Neville okay back there?!
sophiereadstoomuch lol I hope so
Nope lol
Oog hii
Oof, lol
bahaha i was asking myself that too
I like Standalones because I am rubbish at finishing series so sometimes it's nice to know one book is the complete story!
The Fault in our Stars made me cry...
Love your shirt! I still haven't read the Book Thief oh man I need to fix that.
Memef girma
Have you read it now? I still haven’t 😅 too many books, so little time!
@@KoalasBookCorner I read the book thief when I was in sixth grade and it was so good!
Kaya Barringer me too!
Danielle Evans you should just forget everything and read it because it’s so great
I read The Book Thief because you were raving about it and it's become my all-time favorite. Thank you for introducing me to the booklove of my life😍

Emma L. Glad I'm not the only one. I mostly read fantasy too, so when I do read contemporary I want fluff and happiness... :)

I love how passionate you sound when talking about these books.
Can you put the books you mention in the description?
Cutie Pie I think she doesn't do that because then people wouldn't watch the video...
I choose not to because I have done a survey before and the result was the majority of people wouldn't watch the video if I put them in the description so I choose not to do so. Sorry!
Hailey in Bookland Oh okay, thanks for telling me that.

I"M OBSESSED WITH YOUR SHIRT WHERE DID YOU GET IT?!
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is probably one of my top YA stand alones! I really enjoyed that read!
Megan Bryant Isn't Carry On a companion novel to Fangirl?
Mariah Santos I suppose one could count it as a companion, but personally I don't haha
Mariah Santos it is but it really isn't. It's just the story Cath was writing. That's the only tie to Fangirl in Carry On.
I'm literally in love with that book.
Carry on is getting a sequel called wayward son so yeah that’s great
I love that Hailey is from Canada and realizes how real the racism is in the United States even tho she doesn't live here. It's so true bc everyone in America tries to act like racism is over. But it's not
Najjah The United States is literally one of the least racist countries in the world. Racism exists wherever you go, but it’s not as rampant as people would have you believe.
Racism is EVERYWHERE but in the US, canada, Europe, racism isnt as bad as say the middle east
Exactly. Preach!
"A List of Cages" was amazing and beautiful. I cried, laughed, and smiled. Adam is the best big brother ever.
I love the energy in your comment section, sometimes people don’t appreciate, or share what the video was about, but your comment
section does 💞💞
I'll give you the sun is one of my favorites!!
Ari Giselle YES ONE OF THE BEST
YES SAME
Just purchased Heartless and i cant wait to read it. It is such a beautiful book, the hardcover is just absolutely gorgeous 😍
You are fantastic! I need to show my middle school students your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you!

Agree. The book thief is AMAZING ❤️❤️❤️
Upside of Requited is so good! Definitely one of my faves too. I like the idea of a completely new list for the best YA books video
Hailey you look so pretty in this video!!! I am excited for Green's new book aswell I can't wait!
Between the shades of grey is such a good book!! Im so glad you mentioned it and also read it.
Fangirl, The Unexpected Everything and The Upside of Unrequited are definitely my favorites from this list and some of my favorite books ever!!! I completely agree about TUOU It was suuuuuch a relatable read, It was literally like I was reading about my life!

Juliet there was a book i liked that was a fantasy stand-alone it’s called Nightbird but it is a bit of more of a middle school level
Hey Hailey! Just passing to say that your channel is one of my faves! Hugs from Brazil ♥️
Repeated books would be fine, it's always interesting to see which books stay favorites over time.
Your shirt is to die for omg o.O

HEARTLESS YES YES YES

Hi Hailey 😊 Just want to say that you're the first booktube channel that I watch and you make me want to read again.. Thank you!
I love your hair! ❤️️ Great recommendations! Yes a Top 15 YA books updated would be awesome. It could be interesting with completely different titles with the link of your previous video 👊🏼
You suggested A List of Cages 😮 this is my first time seeing it be recommended by a Booktuber 🥺 You don't know how happy that makes me.
I got mad flashbacks to sitting alone reading and crying my eyes out when you mentioned History Is All You Left Me and Heartless. Gah. They’re both beautiful books.
I bought "The Book Thief" because of you. I still have yet to read it, but I'm excited about it.
Okay I haven't even watched the video yet but thank you so much for this video! I've wanted to pick up some new books and I was dying for some stand alone recommendations so this comes at a great time.
I think it would be refreshing to have a new list tbh

I tried to read The Bookthief three years ago but it didn't catch my intrest. Now I finally put it on my TBR again
Faisal n.a hii 7056931781frand
I absolutely loved the book thief!
I like the new master list idea! I want to know which books are still relevant to you from the old list as well as new ones!
I think you should do a new list and maybe include just a few of the old ones if you want to but basically I would appreciate a refreshed list. :)
As soon as you said "A List of Cages" I subscribed. Best book ever! And I read 'Turtles All the Way Down' and it was so good and I honestly LIVE for that book!
Ah!!! I'm in love with your top!
*Everything, Everything* is an amazing book. I had read it last month & it was like a whole journey.

The same with me!!! I just can't read that book. I really don't want to. I don't know why but I just read 5-10pages and after that I was like.... Nah.. This isn't good and am not gonna read this one.
Though I see the the movie but again can't find in me the interest to read the book

It might be because I watched the movie first and it was just like the movie even the dialogue
Omg I loved that book!!!!! You are crazy!!!!
I'm reading Heartless right now and I am already loving it!!
I think a new master list is awesome then we can see which ones stood the test of time/ new books coming out to take their place !
I think you should do an all new list for that video! It's good to get some different recommendations.
The Book Thief made me sob like a complete baby, and I regret nothing. Amazing book.
Ugh, so many of these are on my TBRrrrrrrr.
I enjoyed the video but I hope I'm not the only one who looked at the fallen funko pop most of the time ;)
This is a list of 10 stand alone ya books. Actually 11. No wait also looking for alaska and between shades of Grey and this other book oh and this one is good too but I'm trying to keep this list small.
11 ones I actually elaborated on! 😂
Hailey in Bookland it's ok. I'd rather there be more books. I always love your recommendations.
Fangirl also takes place in my hometown in NEBRASKA! which makes it a million times better!
I know this is late but could you do a fantasy stand alone video? Thanks ❤

The Book Thief and The Lord of the Rings are both my favorite books of all time!! I wish I could reread The Book Thief for the 1st time again!

I think you should just pick your current top 15 favorites, even if some would be repeated from the previous video, otherwise they wouldn't be your top 15 they'd be your top 30. I'll watch it either way since you're my favorite booktuber. 😊
book thief makes me cry and cry its amazing
New! Completely new list because, we can always look at the old list and see what, it was before
I had a hard time getting through Heartless so I gave up reading it. I hate not finishing books I started so I listened to the audio book and I would recommend buying the audio book. It's so well done. Even if you own a hard copy, get the audio book.
I love your videos. you got me to read a lot more and no one has been able to do that, so thank you!
nice outfit, nice makeover and nice book choice
I love The Fault In Our Stars!! I read it last month for the first time and it's now one of my all-time favorite books!!! And I love Heartless so freaking much when Jest died I started sobbing it was so heartbreaking
I like the master list with old and new books.
Jeehh! I love series a LOT! But sometimes I am really just fine with a story to be wrapt up in one book.
But I would have liked to see new books
ahhh!!! you should definitely read if i fix you by abigail johnson. It's her debut contemporary ya book following a love triangle that doesn't exactly seem like one and it's just honestly a really nice book to have a warm tea and sit in bed with fairy lights on, just reading.
Your hair looks so good!! ❤️
I read the book thief and code name verity recently and I loved both of them!
My favorite stand alone is the sky is everywhere 🙌🏼
I would love to see a new master list unless there are some that you just have to include! Or you could just link the other video in the description.
You're awesome Hailey
If you're after more Alice retellings, Gregory Maguire (who wrote Wicked) did one called After Alice. According the Author's note in my copy of Heartless, Marissa Meyer was inspired to write it because he hadn't done one about the queen of Hearts.
