I work in a preschool. I’m absolutely not supposed to know this but am fairly close with the lead teacher of the classroom this incident happened in. The cleaning ladies that came in at night and took care of the school found a baggie of pills in a room children are regularly cared for in laying on the floor. This cleaning woman gave the baggie to my directors and all the employees who had entered that room on the day the pills were found were required to take a drug test or be terminated immediately. Turns out one of the new girls we hired had been bringing her fentanyl pills into work with her and dropped them. Quickest exit I’ve ever seen happen.

To be fair, I've done the same thing. The amount of times I almost said, "Thank you for calling Domino's. What can I get for you today?" when answering the phone at my old pharmacy job is insane. (Domino's was my first job, and it continues to haunt me years later.) Thank God I've never _actually_ said it, but I can understand it. It's a simple slip of the tongue from deep-seated habit. The other behaviors, though... Yeah, not too sure about that.

The CP one is the most horrific. The reality is that to avoid any scandal coming back to the hospital, that worker would have been quietly let go and and his identity spread out over the network so that he'd never be able to get another job near children again, but without having the police called or having him arrested.

    • @Olimar92
      @Olimar92 10 місяців тому

Trust me, that guy was not off the hook. There would have been a story made up if needed to keep him away from the hospital. Or they made sure it was kept quiet while they took it to court. Hundreds of cases are seen, and I guarantee that you'll know very few of them. He was also a security officer, and the business that employed him was going to trash him no matter what.
Also, what dumbass looks up porn at work? Especially illegal porn that may also include the death of children.

    I broke a door, apparently.
Light context: I'd gotten upset over double standards and was sent home early to cool off. On my way out, I tried slamming the door but couldn't because hydraulics, so I donkey kicked it. I had a text from the owner saying to turn in my uniform within 30 minutes.
Full story: The situation kinda starts a week before. A girl had started, and she was taking her SWEET time learning the job. I wasn't thrilled but whatever, not my problem. Then, day of. Another new girl, and she was cool. Definitely trying to learn, but it was her second day, so she hadn't learned much yet. The manager kept cracking on her to hurry up and learn the job. NOT cool. That's double standards, since girl 1 can take her time, but girl 2 needs to know it all already?! I went to the manager about it, and said that it was super uncool, and she should either crack down on girl 1, or ease up on girl 2. Really, a little bit of both would be ideal. (In 1 week, girl 1 had reached the point I was at on day 3. Manager seemed to expect what I accomplished in a week from girl 2... on day 2.) The manager's response? "No." I have a history of emotional issues, which were significantly improved at that point, but I still had a ways to go. I didn't handle that well. I went and started aggressively preparing bread to be baked, and after a few minutes, was told to go home. I wasn't helping anyone in that condition. Tried to slam the (glass) door on my way out, couldn't because hydraulics, so I donkey kicked the door in frustration. I felt the glass flex, but refused to even look at the store for weeks. I sat in the grass away from the store until a friend found me and gave me a ride. I found out a couple of months later that the owner called the cops and pressed charges against me, when I was summoned to court! It was just me and the judge, and perhaps I could've gotten it thrown out because no evidence was offered, but I was honest and wound up doing community service to pay off the door since I was now unemployed and broke. But I refuse to support that owner now because she had ample opportunity to inform me of what I did and didn't say a word, and she didn't bother showing up for court. That just rubs me the wrong way.

Had a line cook put all 3 chefs knives in the dish washer without warning
Tinks and thuds from them flying around in the dish washer one of the blades got stuck in the inner walls
Most of the water line inside were damaged
Knives are hand wash only and if he just left them next to the sink or had me come get them not a problem
      Same restaurant
There was an older woman worked weekends as the post church rush salad soup bar with other things on the buffet
After the church rush she pulls the trays and throws them in the sink doesn’t tell anyone so it’s all a massive soup of whatever wasn’t eaten salad and dressings included
If I was the dishwasher on the weekends for overtime I told her to leave them on the side so I can take the 1-2 minutes to dump the excess in the trash
      She responded
“Kid I told you before this is how I do things if you don’t like it deal with it”
She worked there about 12 years
So one night I was busy I just dumped the gravy and mashed potato trays into the sink
The dishwasher that night flipped out went to the manager
I apologized and said “I’m backed up I had 9 trays to swap out salad to refresh and had to mop the floors and do the trash meanwhile your dishwasher was fumbling with a tray of cups because he’s high AF”
It was really funny to see the manager lean in to sniff the kid
The kid lasted about 3 more weeks before being fired for trying to put his hand on one of the servers lower back
As for the lazy cook she was let go after some complaints of her not doing food inspection on overnight preps and almost burning the restaurant down- she left a rag on the stove with the burner on and it was stuck inside the oven on 400 for some time
it was a fun place for my first official job after high school

I have two stories where I'm surprised that no one was fired.
I used to work in a work clothing store in a very large tourist trap mall. Part of the cleaning duties after closing the store was sweeping and mopping the floor. The coworker who did it did an intentionally awful job (it was well known that he did this on purpose). After finishing my cleaning duties, I saw that the floor still looked awful. Not thinking twice, I grabbed the broom and started sweeping. While I was walking to put the broom away, the coworker saw me and got in my face and started yelling at me. This coworker had given me trouble before and management did nothing about it. His yelling flipped some switch in me and the next thing I know, I'm swinging the broom handle at his head like it's a bat. The ONLY reason I stopped is because he flinched and that made me realize what I was about to do. I stopped my swing about an inch from his head and turned and started to walk away to put the broom away. Meanwhile, he starts following me and goading me to hit him. After I put the broom away, I turn to him and yell at him to go away (or something along those lines, this was easily a decade ago). The supervisor FINALLY comes out of the cash office to see what's going on and separates the two of us. Neither of us were fired or even talked to by management. It just became an unspoken rule that we weren't scheduled together anymore.
The second one is one that I'm REALLY not proud of. I used to work as a busser at a restaurant that was on a reserve just outside the city. Another busser was a metis (pronounced "may-tee") girl that liked to brag about all the things the government gave her because of her heritage. One day I had finally had enough of her bragging and said the first thing that came to mind. I turned to her and said, "yeah? Well, my ancestors took your land and kept it." I'm white. I succeeded in my goal of shutting her up... and all the wait staff in earshot. The district manager dragged me into his office and lectured me. Looking back, I'm surprised that I wasn't fired on the spot for that

Dude at a place I worked at around a year ago was suspected by an employee to be snorting something in the bathroom stall. He overheard it, and mentioned it to one other person.
The person he mentioned it to decided it was a good idea to go talk directly to the suspected guy, told him if he's going to do that kind of thing at work, just be more subtle about it. Well the story should have ended there, but this was not a wise individual. He proceeded to go around to every employee in the department throughout the day and ask them if he knew who ratted on him for that. All while claiming it wasn't true.
He finally narrowed it down to the right person after asking everybody else, and threatened that person. He was fired that day.
Showed up again the next morning like usual, acting funny, made some random threats and homophobic comments to the guy who tried to be cool to him and tell him to be more subtle. So he was walked out by a few big dudes who worked there.
Really f*cking dumb. If you're going to do something like that, you get caught anyway, and the people who know are going to be cool about it and not tell the supervisor, keep your F-ing mouth shut! Thank the graces and move on, don't go around asking everybody to find out who did it. Whether or not you're guilty of it, that only makes you look 1000% guilty. smh

One of the other dishwashers would play entrance music for us as we arrive for our shift (he had "Hollywood Swingin'" for himself, I got "Enter Sandman", another guy got "Fortunate Son", but I digress). My first job was at a restaurant. We had a group chat for all the employees to discuss shift schedules. One employee said she couldn't come in that day because she broke her leg in a trampoline accident while she was looking after her sibling or cousin (something like that). The manager said don't bother coming back in at all as this was apparently her 'second time' and promptly removed her from the group chat. I assume that she must have called out from work at some point before but it seemed harsh to me (and some of my coworkers) that she be fired for accidentally breaking her leg.

Boss came to break it up, to which temp said "man I don't even wanna do this bullshit work". He didn't know that was the boss. Story 16 reminded me of my own story- not quite getting fired on the spot, but I guess demoted? I was in a volunteer theatre group, and that night I was working in the props department (I floated to various departments).
The propmaster for that night had recently been broken up with. It was his fault for cheating on her, but the point is that he turned up to the show high on weed and very out of it.
I started by politely asking "Are you okay? Do you need me to take over? I AM trained to be prop master." He insisted he was fine, but as we were getting ready I could tell that he was just too out of it. So this time I put my foot down. "You are not fully here mentally, and you're high- which is against cast rules, by the way. I'm prop master tonight. I won't turn you in, but I am prop master." He didn't even argue. He did still assist with props that night, but I tried to assign him to the tasks wkth lighter and less fragile props.

I know someone who was fired because he yelled at the boss who could fire him on the spot.
He needed to be fired long before that, but because it was the Christmas season, we needed the man power.
But he honestly made the job harder, because he would just hide away even during our breaks when he was the only one on the clock. We would come back off breaks or meals with us needing to get out there immediately and play catch up.
On weekends, we accept this as a part of the job but week days, this just made our work harder and could have actually lead to another co worker getting a hernia. I say could have because that guy made work horses look like kittens.
But yeah, he made our life so much harder by his sheer laziness

I work the night shift at a hotel and we have a paid security company that patrols at night. There was this new guy who had only started not even two weeks before this incident. He doesn't show up one night and the supervisor comes in with our missing keys explaining what happened the night prior (I wasn't working that night.) Apparently this guy was in the middle of shift and was speeding in the company car on a road he had no business being on. He wasn't paying attention and rear ended someone at a red light. He tried backing up and hit the car behind him. He got out of the car and ran, hid, got an Uber home. He ended up taking all the security keys and company phone with him. It took minutes for his management to find out about this, since the company's number was on the side of the car. They had to fire him and called the cops for the hit and run.

One of my last managers was a real piece of work. She would do all sorts of shit.
Go on a smoke break and leave me (a simple associate) alone with no keys in the store, leave early or come in hours late because “I stayed late last week”, and some of the biggest no nos was her breaking company policy and selling things that were not meant to be sold. (Display items that were years old, gifts with purchase from LEGO that had strict rules). She would discount angry customers items just to get them out of the store (I love rewarding bad behaviour lmao).
She was also super bigoted. She came to British Columbia from Alberta (that’s like moving to California from Texas) and was shocked by how different things were. Expected us to go into work during snowy weather (buses weren’t running, nobody could get there), made some questionable comments about people’s ethnicity. Once she threw out a toy just because they had sent us the French version (which ironically two days later someone asked for that *exact* item), and almost threw away a pile of manga that had come in because “These idiots sent us misprinted books!”
It was a an absolute *joy* to see her escorted off the property when the District Manager finally came. We all cheered. We also learned from her replacement that corporate would send us a “snack budget” in the form of a prepaid credit card. She had used company money to buy cigarettes, and there were rumours of her bringing guys into the back (something she did often) and having intercourse on the managers desk.

I actually have a story for this one. I work cleaning floors overnight at a grocery store 5 nights a week. I had a coworker no call no show on the one night we overlap, call out over an hour late the next night, and I had to cover my next day off. We couldn’t get a hold of him until he showed up after I had worked 11 days straight (could have been 18 days but that period is a blur, he wasn’t fired then due to having a legitimate reason), so I left early due to exhaustion. I told him to redo parts of the floors due to salt streaks (winter), he assured me he’d work my next two days, and I communicated it with my boss.
Not only did he not redo the floors so there were streaks throughout, he didn’t even show up the next three days. I was so exhausted I didn’t check, and nobody stopped there to do shopping. We didn’t find out until the morning of the last day he was supposed to work, almost lost the contract (so he almost cost me my job), and he was fired before he got the call from the business owner saying so. It took us almost all afternoon to get a hold of him and get the key.

When the boss was saying that our jobs had to be the most important thing in our lives, I told my store manager that I loved my child more than I did the regional manager.
And I was fired on the spot.

For the airplane one. and jet engines specifically It's not just the engines are switched off. Once you turn off a jet engine, it doesn't just stop instantly. When you cut the fuel and turn the engine off, it is spooling down from flight idle to nothing, that takes time to do and during that time it's still sucking in air. EEven at idle jet engines have a ton of sucking power behind them. Props, at least you can see them spinning and there's that nice circle the props make. Jet engines? Nah, not unles they got the spirals on the cone in the center the fan blades are attached to, if you've ever seen what looks like a spiral in the middle of a jet engine under the wing, that's the one I'm on about
So to explain, the bit of the engine you see when boarding the plane and you look over is basically, in simple trms, a massive fan that sucks in air, it gets sucked in, compressed, combusted and blasted out the back. And if you ever seen those hash markings on an airport gate, that's for the ground crew's safety, it's supposed to be a no go while the engines are operating. THere's supposed to be the rotating beacon to alert ground crew the engines are running as well.
Just to add to the explaining of why jet engines are so lethal, there have been quite a few cases around the world in the past few years of ground crew being sucked into jet engines
Also fun fact, jet engines suck in air from both ends as well, so it's not just the hot jet blast you need to worry about behind an aircraft, at a certain distance they can still suck you towards them

Oooooo boy I saw this when working at Hertz
So when I was working for Hertz rent a car I had to move a car to the port ( Hertz maintenance facility ) nothing out of the norm just moving a 2017 Nissan Altima to be put up for sale . When I got to the port I saw not 1 not 2 but 3 police officers walking in to the main office I was like what the hell man what the f****** is going on !? I ask the dispatcher what the heck is going on . Just say someone was tipping off his friends where the high end cars will be ending up with details of how to steal the cars . To make things worse it was a driver ! So the guy was tipping off his friends to steal the cars. I was like ..... Mmmmm ya he is ssssssooooo fired 😅
