Not my story, my son's. He has a high school friend who was born into a family of white supremacists. She was rebellious, though, and refused to be like the rest of her family. She was a goth. Well, she got engaged to a guy who's part of the fetish scene. Her family decided to host the wedding so they could keep things "civilized."
My son shows up at the house with one of the groomsmen, who just happens to be a 6'5" tall black man thats built like a linebacker. There's some grumbling from the family, but before they get brave enough to become confrontational, a deputy sheriff parks his car within sight of the wedding. My son is still a little bit nervous even then.
The groom arrives with all of his friends. Two car loads of furries show up. Suddenly, the big black dude is the least of the family's worries.
The wedding starts looking like a cross between a goth circus and a buggs bunny cartoon. The deputy was laughing his butt off and called some of his fellow officers to come check that out. Finally, the bride arrived in a black wedding gown with her goth anime girl bridesmaids.
The family barely managed to hold it together through the ceremony and just left as soon as it was over. The rest of the wedding party and guests stayed to enjoy all the food and booze they left behind.
My son says that's the only wedding he's ever enjoyed. 😂🎉❤

@marmot418 Oh, definitely. They had been called to that address numerous times, so they knew the family inclination. The bride had a friend in law enforcement whom she had tipped off that it was going to be an interesting wedding. That's how they knew to have someone nearby.

The adopted kid being called “weird” feels so dehumanising for some reason. It’s as though OP doesn’t see her as part of the family and sees her as being the sole responsible person for what happened

Before my great grandmother passed away her oldest son (of six) decided it was funny to suggest somewhere over the rainbow as a song to play to her in the hospital. Then when she sadly passed away, a few weeks later we had the funeral and he said theres no way shes being buried with her husbands ring on (he was the second husband). Even to the point he found it somehow appropriate to say he would cut her finger off to solve that.....

    • @cattacake
      @cattacake 6 місяців тому +2

At the same funeral, another two of her sons also had a massive argument, shook hands, and declared they were no longer brothers. Someone also had thieved some things from great grandmother's house, and many people turned on this cousin as he had just got out of prison for dr*gs. Which made more people argue and vacate the premises due to arguing over who did it. Turned out it wasn't even him; it was another family member.
Not the fondest memory of my family lol.

My grandfather (dad's dad) died not long before my dad's 31st birthday (I was a year old at the time, so I don't remember it), and the funeral was on my dad's birthday. When I was around 8-ish, I went to a family reunion at my great aunt's house, which overlooked a lake. One of my cousins was a huge bully. She locked me in the shed for 20 minutes, and when I threatened to tell on her, she chased me onto the pier and pushed me into the lake. I couldn't swim. I'm not entirely sure what happened after I went under the water, but the next thing I remember is waking up from my EMT uncle giving me CPR. I never saw most of that side of the family again.

My mother told me of a family reunion at my aunt's house. It was nighttime, everyone was outside in the patio eating, drinking, and mingling, and at some point the family saw a dark cloud in the sky that was moving unnaturally. It was lowering to reach the roofs of the neighboring houses. It was so weird the family could only stare until they heard a loud smack on the nearest wall. Everyone turned to see, and I'm not kidding here, a huge roach. It must've been at least 8 inches long. That's when the "cloud" reached the party. Everyone screamed, with some dropping to the floor as the dozens and dozens of giant roaches flew over their heads. Everyone scrambled and ran back inside, using towels to cover the cracks so the roaches couldn't get inside. They later found out someone poured insecticide into a sewer vent. So glad I wasn't there. My soul would've left my body. 😂

It was December 26th, 2022 at a hotel in CA. All Christmas presents from the day before were packed already since my family and grandparents of both sides were going to a museum that day. Anyway, it was early morning as initially only my mom and myself were awake. Due to my lack of college related progress in that year, my senior year, my mom was lecturing me about taking responsibility and I was replying that her words were empty and not helping. It eventually came that she repeated "You are 18 years old now." for the third time and I just replied with "THAT CHANGES NOTHING!" which was loud enough that my marine corp brother interpreted it as me possibly threatening harm to our mother and coming in the pin me against the wall accompanied by a few smacks. We were fine. No animosity between my brother and I and the topic wasn't revisited with my mom. Worst damage was a bruise on my leg from bumping the nightstand (and a possible dent in the wall).

Just as they were doing the deed, the party was raided by police. One of my uncles ran into the honeymoon suite, dove under the bed and hollered DONT TELL THEM IM HERE!! 😂

I will never forget this story as long as im breathing. My half brother (same dad different moms. This will be important later) passed away when I was 24. He left behind a loving wife and children. Well we didnt know why or what caused his death so there was alot of conspiracy theories mainly on his moms side on what caused his death. Well at his receiving I'm sitting with my young neices and nephews trying to keep it together when the door flys open and his mom and other half siblings come barging in wailing and practically throwing themselves on the casket. One of his sisters pushed our dad into the casket almost knocking it over. I stepped outside for some fresh air and talk with my stepbrother just in time to see my brother's half brother come outside fuming. His sisters followed him and started pulling him to come back im cause they "have to find out who killed their brother." My 'something bads going to happen ' sense started tingling and i warned we needed to keep an eye on them. I went to school with the guy in the past and he had a history of flying into a rage. Unfortunately my feeling was spot on because the minute we walked back into the funeral home do we hear a loud commotion followed by my sil's dad screaming at the brother and charging towards him. Apparently when the brother got back inside he started in on a threatening rant of how my sil killed his brother and he was going to end her (Im so glad my half-brother's kids weren't there for this but unfortunately my other niece and nephew were). We separated the men and I took the kids outside away from the altercation while leaving I was told by the receptionist that the cops had been called. So now all people attending the receiving were outside giving their statements including myself. It turned out the brother was told by their mom that SIL possibly killed our brother after she was told she wasn't getting her son's assets including his business he had been planning to open the day after his death. She had demanded all my brothers possessions from his wife 20 odd minutes after getting the call that my brother died. I was disgusted because this wasn't the first time theyvhad issues with my SIL for selfish reasons. After the statements were given the cops told the mom to get her kids and leave the premises and dad informed her that she and her spawn were banned from the funeral and would no longer be paul bearers for his casket. After theu left we continued the receiving as planned but that altercation still loomed over our heads. To this day i haven't talked to that side of his family and possibly never will.

Went to a family reunion in Colorado and the young son of one of my relatives had the stomach flu. It bounced from person to person until it hit my parents and I like a sock full of bricks. We spent a night of hell in our hotel room puking in shifts and chugging Gatorade to restore the electrolytes we lost. I can only hope the room next to ours was vacant, because I'm positive at least one person heard me shouting colors into the thunder bucket.

There was never any hiding that he was gay, he was just Uncle Bob, and Ben was his partner. We lost them, one after the other, in the early/mid 90s. I miss both of them dearly.

A friend was having a birthday party for herself, her twin sister, and friend's twin grandson who were turning 3. For context, the boys were born on friend's birthday and their birth mom, friend's son's misstress, and friend's twin was/is a psychopathic nutjob. the boys were so excited for their party, monster trucks and dinosaurs, what's better? well, according to friend's twin, pink and lots of it and nothing else. So she took over the party, and I mean took over, throwing away all of the boys' stuff and decorations, scratching out their names on presents and putting her own, and no one seemed to notice or care. that's what happens when you get 100+ people, seniors and young kids under 12 together. I didn't see this part happen myself but I saw the aftermath. Friend's twin I guess told the boys they didn't deserve a party they were spoiled brats and they should have died with their mom at birth. the boys ran to friend and when she found out she went ballistic. I heard her before I saw her, funny considering she's 6' tall with white hair and cowboy hat. she was screaming and cussing at her twin in both English and Irish Gaelic their native tongue, before having friend's husband drag twin to his truck and take her home. talk about a party.

I have a story when my uncle was sick with Kidney disease this was 6 years ago I was about 12 or 13 years old at the time my mom and me decided to go visit them mind you they live in El Salvador and we lived in Modesto ca and when I heard the news’s he was sick I was in shock because he was my favorite uncle so me and my mom went to go visit and when we got there I immediately go to see my uncle who was lying down in a hammock and when he saw me he started to cry I tried to keep my tears in he wouldn’t let me go for 5 mins, when he let me go I could clearly see how sick we was I won’t go in full detail but almost every day we where there we had to take him to the hospital while I stay home with my nieces nephews and one cousin who tried to have fun while I was there me and my mom stayed in El Salvador for two weeks and during that time I also spend a lot of time with my sick uncle and every night people from there church (my entire family in my mom side is Christian’s) would sing and pray for him to get better and when the day came to go back home my mom and me couldn’t bring ourselves to say goodbye so we left and after a few months later he passed and I remember being in to much shock to respond and being an awkward 13 year old at the time I just prayed at night that he was in heaven finally in peace but to this day I regret not saying goodbye to him and just recently I made a little shrine for him for a presentation I had to do for a Spanish class assessment and when I presented it I heard back tears and just a month ago I wrote about him also it also had me in tears and now that im going back this summer to spend my 18th birthday there I just wish he was there to celebrate it with our whole family

Here's one that's not sad. My cousin celebrated her 21st birthday at my grandparents home with all the family and extended family. The theme was luau and my dad and uncle were running the bar. Everyone who was old enough and a couple that were too young ended up getting absolutely wasted. I was like eight at the time. It was great and finally came to a head when my grandma, absolutely shit-faced, jumped onto the bar to start dancing on it, Coyote Ugly Style. We never missed a chance to remind her of that night because Lord knows she wouldn't remember it herself, right up until the year she died

My mom died about 7 years ago from Alzheimer's at age 86. I (M) was 45 at the time, my married brother was 52. An old friend (44 F) of mine from high school came to pay her respects at the wake.
At some point my brother got her in the corner alone and started flirting with her and trying to get her phone number. She ducked out of there; gave me her condolences and got the Hell out of there.

the Korean American thing didn't really surprise me. As an Asian i can say that if the girl ever planned to go home to live with those 2, the snide remarks and side-eyes would continue. If for nothing else, then for them to prove some kind of catharsis and a solidification of their power. The older the in-laws, the more difficult they make shit. Generation gap plays a role, but they are unable to give up on the hyper authoritarian ideologies that come with it alongside the completely normalized racism.
