Feeling your pain from the drought in SW MO. Shipped last load of stockers before Thanksgiving, restocking in March. Grass hasn’t regrown like I was hoping. Fertilized farm and still recovering from sticker shock on fertilizer bill. Good luck in 2021, you’ll make it, just stay out of debt as much as possible.
Man your such a hard worker .love the red calfs .wish I was closer i'd buys some. any way have a good Christmas remember your loved and stay safe,God Bless Hugs
I learned fast......you can do with out.....the goose neck trailer......with out the expensive truck.....and no need for a cattle trailer ! They are killers for expense ! I milked cows for 40 years....never needed any of those things. The largest truck I had was an S-10 . So much cheaper to have it hired done. A time saver also. You stay home and get work done ! Instead of run the roads ! Can buy cheap flat bed hay racks ( 100 dollars ) and used them to move hay.
what exactly do you do raising calves? im 12 years old and want to start when im maybe 15-16 years if i have the money to start. Do you raise heifers or just steers? and do beef calves bring better money or dairy? how old will the calves be and how much weight the ones that bring 600 pounds?
I wish your calves were headed farther north in Missouri. Could you sell them as individuals? Put them on Marketplace and Craigslist. Perhaps you can get more of them sold before going to the sale barn.
I wish I had room for a few of those black white face heifers. My small herd gave me 6 bulls and two heifers this year. If I am really lucky, the bulls will pay my hay bill.
Nice video how's your bread heifer's doing .yes prices suck right know especially at auction here I can sell 100 pound sheep for more then a 1 pound beef x diary calf lot calf's were shipped the SD a few weeks ago as there feed lots there had lots of hay ..
What a shame to have to sell before optimum price and growth. They really look good in my opinion and would have looked great if everything unfolded as planned
Great update, won't it be cheaper to have a semi bring hay from another State, in the Midwest? That way you don't take a huge hit on selling them early. There were no thank you moo's, today, they must know you are planning to sell them.
We have tried to get estimates from Kansas and Arkansas and so far they have all been too much to make it work. Even semi loads from northern missouri have been too high.
The journey of a cattleman . . . up and down . . . Merry Christmas and hope 2021 is much more profitable, great video.

Breed, weaning date, and vaccine schedules.
@@FarmandHammer thankYou! i appreciate you always addressing my many curiosities...
What sale barn do you use ?
We use a couple depending on the year. We will use joplin stockyards, Buffalo, and Springfield.
Oh that’s sweet we use Springfield We run cattle about 20 miles southeast of Lebanon
Why do you keep buying hay when you have plenty
We do not have enough hay. We are still around 100 bales short for the winter.
:( :( :( :( bye bye cows
