Important to mention that with Ancelotti (2014-2015) and Zidane (2016-2018) when CR7 and Bale were at Real Madrid, Benzema also used to play a false 9 role and sometimes also played the CAM role seen with Bellingham here, so i guess RM staff and players already had a good view on how to come back to this tactic nowadays.

Finally, someone who understand the diamond beyond "Jude is playing shadow striker now." The fact is this diamond is unique and only achievable because Real Madrid, for some reason bought 4 very dynamic midfielders on 4 separate occassions and just now realized they can overload the midfield through sheer natural athletism. Madrid diamond is not narrow purely because 4 of them have the stamina to cover the ground and are very good at pressing
And the fun part is Madrid has Kroos and Modric on top of those 4

I thinks that's the real key of this Diamond. Each playera in the midfield can play at least 3 roles between the tradicional 5,6,8 amd 10 and they are changin everytime. The main problem of the system is neither Camavinga or Tchouameni can play Toni Kroos role against very defensiv teams, they need to be a less dynamic in that situation and act more like a permanent anchor
@@mariosuarez9825 most likely that will be Arda's role. Tchoa, Fede, Cama and Bellingham starts. After they tired their opponent with their tenacity, Arda will swap in and play the classic 10 role along with Jude in more of Mezzala or SS role
But it won't work properly... In a diamond formation you need goal poacher infront or else your team will struggle to find goal. Unless you've a a player who is that skilled in finding goals or setting up chances for other forwards... Bellingham as shadow striker won't be effective for real madrid against challenging opponents... If you'd seen their match vs athletico it really shows how they struggke upfront. Only way they could get a shot on target was from edge or outside of the box... Kroos and valverde were doing the job of getting a goal. See Zidane used this formation back 2016 /17 seaosn back they had Cr7 and benzema who were great strikers with goal poaching sense. You need a good striker or else this formation is actually useless 🤷♀️🤷♂️

Great analysis, and good view of the game, however due to some limitations, we will have a stressful season as Madrid fans, unless we work on better finishing and the return of Vini
I think this system is still very unstable. It took individual brilliance to beat a disprited Barca and too many times this season Madrid have drawn easy games whiles not looking great. They were too easily shut down against Athletico. Apart from that unlike the 4-3-3 of the Threepeat era the goalscoring is not evenly distributed. The wingers and much of the midfield are more of creators than scorers. I still feel this is more of a stop gap than a workable formation.

this season Barcelona and liverpool seems using diamond too without pure striker, leverkusen also using diamond at several occasions when attacking. this is Cruijff - Rinus Michels inventions, modern total football. its devastating in any style from defensive - parking bus, counter atttack, gegenpressing to tiki taka
I don't remember in which match camavinga and tchumani played as a double pivot and Toni Kroos on the bench, on transition they played as 3 centre back with kross , when needed step up to the midfield and played double pivot with tchumani

It's elementary, the square or diamond gives the player with the ball three options, and the defense has to contend with more players. The diamond or square should be all over the pitch, it's hard to defend against.
But what happens to the impact Vini provided from out wide. It works for Bellingham but Vini suffers.
We also used a diamond shape with Zidane in UCL finals with Isco

That means Real Madrid are now a possession based team unlike the last 2 seasons. However they are versatile which is a good thing. They can change their style to either counter attack, defensive or high press or counter press. No other team are as versatile as Real Madrid at the moment. Manchester United are now possesion based team but they are sort of versatile. Real Madrid are on fire at the moment. Unlike last season which were deteriorating and despite their slow start of their season, Real Madrid are alot more well coodinated and well cohesive. I reckon Real Madrid will win Spanish Super Coppa, the La Liga and maybe the Champions League because of Man City. Real Madrid can beat everyone in the Champoins League except for Man City but then you never know. In the end being versatile pays off in the end. Wait until after after Christmas break. A different side of Real Madrid will come out. A more beastie side of Real Madrid will come out and there may be one of the league matches will get postpone around Jan or Feb (snowstorm times) which it will be a good thing because it will allow more time for the players to rest and it will allow more time for the coach come up with really good strategies. It has happened before few times and it paid off.
Bellingham is more of a Trequartista than a Shadow Striker, given that he can move positionless and usually don't arrive late but instead initiate the vertical movements to break the opposition lines.

I think there are lot of nuances the maker of this video has missed. Bellingham has been given to act as a 9 and a 10 as a when situation is conducive, which is true. However, this formation particularly suffers a lot when the wingers or wing back tries to put a ball in the box. This is because a traditional no 9 is not there in the box, and Bellingham can't always operate as a 9. This is why we won the last match against Sociedad, as Bellingham impacted more as a traditional no 10 or midfielder, but Joselu was present in the box at crucial times to head the ball in finally. I would say this formation is a makeshift strategy in the absence of a no 9. Once we have that, we will switch back to 4-3-3 maybe with a 10 instead of two Cm and a DM

It's not that unique it was used in 2016/17 season by Zidane with ronaldo/bale , benzema upfront isco playing behind them as no. 10 then kroos modric as cms and casemiro as defensive mid. This helped Zidane to bring in a player (isco) who could take opponents in 1v1 and create chance.
The only difference compared to current squad is that Bellingham plays a false nine dropping deep and trying to score goals by making runs into the box. If you've seen rma side 2016/17 you'll understand this old tactics used by Zidane the only difference they had ronaldo and benzema as prominent strikers

You make it sound like you can make the midfield and the forwards go wide and that is not the case, this diamond position will make your team play naturally narrow, if the midfield goes too wide you leave open spaces and you leave the DM alone, so to play a wide game you need really good experience fullback if you don't you leave you self open just like what happen against atletico madrid, Juan Fran and Vasuez don't have the talent or the experience of such a job.
you failed to point out the weakness of this formation which is the narrow play that needs really good fullback to work, when RM used 20 years ago the had the best LB in the world(Roberto Carlos) and a really good RB.
