I take the new GORE C5 Collection Thermal jacket jersey & bibs tights and put it through the wringer. I test their threshold and review the outcome. These are not supposed to be waterproof which is why I wanted to take them into the heavy cold pouring rain to see how they did while riding the bike in this cold deep winter weather. Testing cycling apparel is one of my favorite things to do. I give you my honest feed back about what I like and what I dont like. If you are looking for am honest review on the new C5 Gore-Tex Infinium Jersey, C5 Gore-Tex Infinium Thermo Jacket, C5 Gore-Tex Infinium Thermal Bib tights and Gore Thermal 3 finger gloves. This Winter Cycling Guide will help you find the gear you need to ride all season long! - Спорт
Do you like to Instagram with me?: bit.ly/DkleinIG
Dude if more reviews were like this the world would be a much better place. ✌️
The solution for shoe situation is called gaiters. Namely Gripgrap Gaiters. Take a look at them. Cheap, snug and they do the job. preventing water leaking into wintershoes and shoe covers. Keep those vids coming! Thanks for the ride.
Always love the bridge shots
Thanks player!
Love this video! Perfectly captured what it's like to ride bikes in Portland. Cold. Wet. Dodging slippery mucky leaf piles. Getting doused by cars. There's this spot on the west bank of the Hawthorne Bridge going east bound... ya'll know what I'm talking about! LOL Watch OUT! I bet you could build a series on testing gear. I was a hard sell on full fenders for my road bike but they were WORTH it!
PLayer in the know!
I ordered the C7 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ Stretch Jacket a couple weeks ago based on your review. Love it! Ordered some more stuff after using it a bit. Great for Marin Ca weather.
That Shakedry jacket is the BEST!!
ALWAYS: your pants have to cover the shaft of your shoe! ALWAYS! If the Gore wants are longer they can overlap and water will come much later. But as I know Gore their pants are all on the shorter side.
Because I have the same problem I figured out the Berghaus Paclite pants in long (they have three different lengths to choose). They are not bike specific but have the advantage of a 4/5 two-way zipper (easy to get in and a big option to get some fresh air). Great product!
The C5 jacket remembers me to my old Gore Tool jacket, unbreakable!
Always wear shoe covers ;)
@@Lepercurtidoo Shoe covers won't help if water runs down your legs.
@@robinfjaer @gfxRAF They will provided you wear nice waterproof pants that goes on top of them. Never got cold or wet feet in 2 decades.
You would sweat in waterproof bibs like no other. If you are looking for best bet, I would go with the c5 windstopper tight bibs as they are going to be water repellent and warm. Just got them in at our shop and they are great!!
I strongly recommend getting some Gore-Tex socks! They are far more waterproof than winter shoes or booties. Fantastic for ugly weather bikepacking too!
Entertaining! Man now I have to watch all you videos to that info on good gear. Great job!
Like. My best, warmest, most excellent bib tights I bought in 1991!! From an English brand called Karrimor.(who back then made quality backpacks and clothing). These have been patched at the seat by adding a section from pair of crashed bib shorts...plus have an extra layer over each knee(crash damage!) Have worn extensively each cold, wet winter since then on the worst days.Never get cold legs. Have got through many other less impressive leg coverings during that time, but none that are as cosy. Gabba type tops are BRILLIANT. Over good thermal vest. Waterproof jackets....ah,that word. If only they existed.(was in Mountain Rescue for few years and had exactly the same issues ) But a half decent goretex type of comfy jacket over a Gabba type Jersey is pretty good. As for feet Aaargh. Yes water runs down inside shoe. Yes seal skin socks simply fill up with cold water, which stays inside. Yes neoprene overshoes are ok up to a point. Yes we have to try different things until we have a pile of different options, none of which are 100%. Same goes for gloves. Neoprene gloves from wetsuit supplier with thin under glove works ok in rain. Bit like the feet just try different things ,until we have a pile of gloves, none of which do everything! Good Luck. Still prefer riding in the real (cold and wet in Donegal winter) world ,than ‘virtual ‘ Zwift reality...
Dude, you have to get another clothing collaboration or company going. You are too thoughtful with this stuff. Thanks again. This was peak dklein the designer here.
I’d like to something with gore , their stuff is a little monochromatic...
Also, pearl izumi has excellent stuff, probably the best sleeves and unpadded tights but their designs besides basic black are horrendous.
There’s a company called Grip Grab that do kind of tight rubber sleeves that help slow down the water running down your leg into your boot scenario!
Although I’ve even gorilla taped the top of boots to my leg and somehow water still got in eventually, you get a free leg wax when you take the tape off though!
Cold rain is the final frontier for me. I’ll take 25 and snow before 35 and rain. Since I live in my studio I don’t have to commute - and if I do have a shoot I have to drive to keep my camera gear dry anyways. Who know? Maybe I’ll try it someday - but cold and wet is the worst! That being said - I am interested in the thermal bibs.
Was very worth it watching you in those horrid commute or die type weathers, nice one
Have you ever cycled with paddling gloves? They're neoprene (think wet suits for your digits). Your hands are going to be wet, but they're going to stay warm to the point where you don't know they're wet. When it's pouring out, they're my go-to
Love Gore stuff. Gore jacket are freaking fantastic, I ride below zero in not much more than a light shirt and the Gore Phantom jacket.
Pearl Izumi Amfib tights, gore shakedry jackets and cap, and shimano mw7 boots for rainy days.
I need to check out those boots!
Quality looks really good on the new camera! 🙌
player I appreciate that! SUPER excited about it!
Outdoor research makes gaiters that would work. I have 45 North boots i wear and they have a Velcro cuff closure on the top that seals out water nicely. They are also high enough that my tights go over the top of them
I still use thin overshoes over my northwave winter cycling boots. Really helps to keep water from getting inside.
northwave raptors for winter and rain is the best. waterproof and warm!!!
I could definitely do with some of this on some of my rides in BC!
You've got in even more intense with weather than we do! Respect!
@@EverythingsBeenDone Thanks!!!!!! Love your videos!!!!!!!!
Dustin, gripgrab makes a cuff that will address the gap between your shoes and tights.
Dustin!!!! Hiking gaiters, there are goretex options. its a game changer!
Really enjoy these product reviews DK, saves us from wasting money on kit that doesn't fit the brief. Definitely signing up for one of those Gore jackets now.
Speaking of zipper pulls, Nite Ize makes light up zipper pulls called Ziplits, I've replaced the pulls on all of my cycling gear with them for extra visibility.
That sounds rad!
@@EverythingsBeenDone they aren't super bright, but they're really easy to grab with gloves and every little bit helps. They've also taken plenty of river dunks and seem to be waterproof, not just resistant. They've seen some shit.
I always love that moment when you're so wet, you forget about trying to stay dry and you turn into a little kid and rage through puddles and mud without a care in the world.
Hello Player . This magic gear here "Pearl Izumi Winter Bib Tight Elite Amfib " has a double ankle one hooks under your foot so the bibs stays in place and the other top layer goes over the shoes; so water does not get in your booots. I had a pair and they do a good job with water and cold.
You can use 'GripGrab CyclinGaiter Rainy Weather Ankle Cuff'!
Not much need for rain gear here in AZ but occasionally. Thanks for the review and fall colors.
Im jealous of your dry warm ness...LOL
45F here in Phoenix AZ this morning. But dry....accept two mornings ago. Very rare though.
I LOVE your vest!!! And hat!
pockets are important!
I'm with you. For some reason, thermal and waterproof doesn't get a lot of respect. I love my AmFib tights and a pocket would be outstanding.
Great visibility, but perfection on matching your frame. POCKETS would be awesome.
my winter tights are the mid tier from pearl izumi. I bought them because they have stirrups so the cuff stays snug around my boots and keeps the elements out. not sure why it isn't a more common feature but i LOVE IT.
velotoze tall MTB FTW honestly
Great call!
I wear a pair of Vaude long cycling gaiters with my Lake MXZ304 boots. Keeps the water out without having to wear full rainpants. The only bad thing about the Vaude gaiters is the toe cover is not durable. Before I even wear a new pair, I add duct tape to the inside and outside of the material that goes under the toe of the boot. That solves the problem, but it would be nice if they used a durable material in that spot to start with.
Tights over shoes chap works for me ,just saying. Black and brown neutral colours why not. The Gore shakedry c5 is a game changer just don't fall off it will fail
I love the 145 boots as well, and you do need a gator type thingy to keep water out of the top. Tyme to get your desygn on!
Yo, hit up Decathlon for those pants with built in gaiter/cuffs. They're a French brand that sells like mad in the UK, and UK commuters know rain. There's a shop in the US with mail order AFAIK.
veloToooooooooze! Latex mang. Doenst hold water/saturate, keeps the shit out, lightweight....man. Pro tip is to put tape on the inside of your shoe to seal the cleat screw holes too - so water "don't come up from the bottom"
Gore GOOD STUFF ...Got a gore jacket with zip-off sleeves pretty much the only one I need
Hiking or trail running gaiters will keep your feet dry from water dripping into your shoes. Gaiters over the shoes and pants over your gaiters. Like shingles.
Thumbs Up for putting yourself out there in this mist! :D Ha!
I try ;)
I need to get my hands on that protagonists shirt😁
you should try seal skin socks there water proof yes proof and are rely trippy i use them in the uk in the winter for MTB defonetly check them out. i have two pairs even though there expensive its a must over here in the winter
Big up the Zoidberg gloves! 🤙
The best!
i like the older c5 infinium jacket better. its warmer and does much better in heavy rain.
I think the new one does better in the rain personally
Great detailed review brotha👌🏾
my man!!!
DexShell Drylite - the best waterproof gloves that i tried... Try it )
Looking these up now!
@@EverythingsBeenDone they also have waterproof socks ;)
You're probably not going to find waterproof bibs-- if you add a hardshell component/ goretex, your sweat won't wick and your bibs will feel wet not from the rain, but from your sweat... Sometimes you just have to stay warm and forgo the dry for a day ride.
Dustin if you do a Protagonist cycling jersey, with a zip and pockets on the back I purchase one straight away.
PREACH on bib-pockets. Whenever they're there, I use them, and whenever they're NOT there, I wish they were!
Staying warm > staying dry
Wool...wet yet warm and ever so slightly moist...ZOINKS..!!
Dude.....Showers Pass make waterproof everything.....be safe and happy bud!
I like some of their stuff
Nice ride and review! Bam
Hope you're loving the PDW 650 Beasts like I am. I'm still a bit miffed about the upcharge for all black hardware.
Waterproof and you'll soak in sweat.
Breathable and you'll still get wet.
If you're warm you won't care so much.
It's rare when everything is perfect.
Depends on the body and the atmosphere
lol yah seems could use something to go over the socks and connect with the leggings (or whatevs they're called in cycling world) :) nice vid ~
How about ya show us your weed kit for long rides? Tips and tricks for partakement of the devils lettuce while exploring the hinterland on two wheels. Edibles? Tinctures? Vapors? ? ?
Give the 45nrth Ragnarok a try if u get a chance , similar dising the lake boots but a lot lighter and sleek look
hey buddy, see if you can score a pair of Lake MXZ 176. They are low cut unlike your current winter boot, but they appear to be more water and wind proof. Thinking about trying a pair myself.
Overshoes?
Digging the jersey. Is there a mid or long sleeve version in the works?
I was doing that yesterday, with only a hardshell jacket. It was not fun...
Has anyone ever tried a thermal wet suit like what you see people wear when surfing in the winter? To a layman like me it seems like the perfect solution.....
New to your stream. Have you heard of Showerpass? Highly recommended for drizzle to deluge.
Next video; same route but this time on the Ibis and see how the jacket does against a rooster tail of spray without mudguards...
What if you added little neoprene sides to the pant legs kinda like the ear covers on your hat? Attach them with a bit of elastic under the heel.
Get yourself some Showers Pass waterproof(ish) socks and gloves. Gore will never know.
Get some waterproof socks! Your shoes get soaked but they keep your feet dry and warm without the hassle of overshoes
ever tried velotoze gear? (neither have I but they claim to be waterproof and it would be cool to see a review on those)
How does this one compare to the red Gore jacket you had at the beginning of the year?
Very similar, The cuffs are better on this one. the other(red) has that cool/strange faux leather look. Which I kinda miss cause its so different..LOL
Hey man! i live in portland also and love your vids! what kind of bike are you riding in this video?
I like the hat, where did u get the hat? keep my ears warm
why no shoe covers ?
So - are the gore thermal bibs the best ones you've used? I'm hoping to ride through the winter here, and am about to gear up
You need some boot gators , they cover your ankles. idk if thats what they are called. but they make it.. one love
Like what hikers wear? Life hack right thurr
Is it possible to put a simple drawstring closure on the top of those boots?
Anything is possible
What tyres are you running in the rain?
Yo bro have you tried showers pass water proof soaks? It would be cool to see your take on them.
Why don't you use Endura stuff? Their stuff is actually waterproof. I also live in Portland and it keeps me nice and dry.
Do you have a contact?
@@EverythingsBeenDone I don't unfortunately. Just found them several years ago. I'm from Colorado originally and I can ride all winter long in their stuff, down to about -10. They are always super responsive on their support forums though?!
Ya know at this point Dustin, I think investing in a wet suit is probably the best haha
Now thats the best idea Ive heard in a long time! ;)
Full scuba and load the tank with ganja, perfect! Like a weed camelbak
You sure the wet is came from rain or to your sweat?
Gore-tex Infinium is only windproof, not waterproof. Only Gore-tex, Gore-tex Pro, and Gore-tex Paclite are the only ones that are waterproof and windproof.
I only watch the videos for the sexy, funky music.
Those lobster mitts are waaaaay warm.
Спасибо за контент который ты делаешь
damn, imagine spending $100s on Gore gear and then have them soak through anyway. Dish wash gloves forever.
As I send in the video None of this is actaully Waterproof gear. Its just resistant so I wanted to see how it would do in the pouring rain...surpassingly well ;)
But let's hear about that Protagonist jersey....
I see it. In the description. NVM. Carry on playa.
My Man!
Thank you for the nice, funny feedback video. I like your style. About the wet shoe/socks issue ... why don't you use overshoes ? Gore also have them in their collection. Where i'm from ( Belgium) it really does get wet and rainy most of the time in autumn/winter and i never ever get wet feet ;) You might also consider trying sealskinz waterproof socks. These two combined guarantees you nice, warm and dry feet .
I have a ton of over shoes I totally blanked out on wearing them for this ride...🤦
Do you have a Spotify playlist?
No everything is from chances with wolves.
The road version of the lake shoes aren't as good :(
Good to know! thanks for the heads up!
@@EverythingsBeenDone the stack height is too high and the sole mold is the same size as their other road shoes so that the padding makes the shoe too tight.
Did those Bibs really make you a professional athlete or a protagonist mathlete?
add a cheap plastic poncho and you're golden
Not even gonna lie my wet (Northern European winter) ride-drobe is full on social worker chic
Did I get a shout out?
Takes one for the team, brrrr. Duct tape to seal that boot leak?
LMAO!!
Ahh road muck, really stings the eyes, and turns your white socks gray.
Showers pass waterproof socks. Wear them all winter!
