I want you to realize that you started me into flash photography because you two guys' simply say "just go do it." I did just that and just started flashing away. Guess what happened? As I was taking more and more photos I charged I found myself exploring different methods and teaching myself every step along the way. But you both got me off my seat and I charged right into flash photography. As I needed more research I pointed myself to You Tube, watched the pros and went forward using multiple techniques. Not everything needs to be complicated. You simplified it and gave me the
    energy. Many thanks.

Thank You Thank You Thank you,,,, I am glad that you explained everything you need to set up and operate a flashlight setup. Almost every other video on this subject no one ever explains the complete process. They talk about what it does but not what you need to get to make it work. Great Video and thanks for this great information NOW I know what I need to get started!!!!

TTL is great! yes you may need to change the output but even entry-level Dlsr cameras have Flash exposure compensation, which gives you the control of the flash from the camera, without having to walk over to the flash and every time.

Put the speedlight on camera shoe. If you are outdoors, angle flash up and use the built in reflector card. In you have a ceiling or wall to bounce off of, angle the flash 2 clicks backwards. It will bounce it at the ceiling, but at an angle so that it doesn't make the eye sockets dark. You can also angle slightly to the side to create broad or short lighting. Also zoom way out on your flash so that it is a stronger light beam and will reach the ceiling and not as easily blind people nearby.

I'm also happy with my Yongnuo setup. I prefer the 568EX II because it has a TTL system that is fully compatible with my Canon. When I use it along side my manual 560's I set it to S1 (slave mode) and no issues.

The only trouble I see with using a Manual flash over ETTL is when taking candids of moving subjects, either adults, kids or animals. You just can't take a picture to test the lighting and then expect to re-take the same shot. I find ETTL works best for these type shots when you just have to get the shot.

I agree to a certain extent that this is good for photographers starting out, however, I don't see the complications you seem to see with the ittl/ettl flash photography. With Nikon, all you need is a mid level camera, a Nikon flash and you can change settings without walking over and pulling down the stand to access the flash. Also, doing it that way, you need to make sure that it's at the same hight and angle afterward. Buy a used SB800 flash, you don't need a trigger and it's reliable.

Trust me when I tell you that your Canon flash will most likely outlive any Yongnuo or such. I've just been burned. My Yongnuos lasted about a year working properly. They won't go past 1/2 power now. Not to mention the battery compartment doors are absolute shit. I take care of my stuff very well. My Canon 600 EX-RT works flawlessly and I've had it for much longer. Having said that, I'm not going to spend another $500 US on a speedlite ever again.

Simple question... what setting should the Camera be set to ?
I have a Canon 7D and a Neewer SPPEDLITE NW 561 (it rotates 360 degrees and up and down)
At the moment need to use it on camera
regardless - what should I use on camera - Tv @125 ISO 100? etc?

Ofcourse you can get more creative with off camera flash. But when you properly learn to bounce ( when you throw your omnibounce in the trash ) you can get great directional light with on-camera flash as well.
