Also a VW Polo 9N light bulbs guide toward the end
Many thanks go to @Ciprian-Nicolae Toma-Georgevici for spotting the error. The dual filament bulb for tail and brake light is NOT a P21/5W as stated in the video, but IS a P21/4W (type BAZ15d)

You can add "Speech Bubble" on the video, not all users read the comments. But anyway thank you for your video !
Maaaaaaaaate! Bloody informative and perfect for dummies. Get yourself a beer. You deserve it.
Cheers Cyd 👍
Perfect presentation, nothing more to add...
Excellent vid. I especially like the thumbnail inset views of relevant actions and parts. The wiring light clip action for example; these things are always torture if you have poor access and don't actually know how the clip functions.
Thank u for the bulb sizes pretty useful😅
Thank you for explanation about the bulb types!!!
👍👍
Thanks for your video helped me a lot today !
Quite helpful video. Thank you buddy!
Glad it was helpful Nikolay!
This really helped!!
I am confused when I hit my brakes the top light illuminates and not the one that you say is a tail light and brake light?
Thanks for letting me know - I think I may have misidentified the brake light. I'll double check and maybe edit that bit out
Lower tail light and brake light is P21/4W. Socket is different than P21/5W as described in video.
Hi there, as mentioned in the community tab, we no longer have the car, but checking the Osram bulb finder confirms you are correct. I'll put a note in the description. Thank you.
Thank you.
tnx
Thanks CVNT
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Just changed mine today on the driver's side but now both sides are not working
Check all connections (including the bulb base) looking for good contact and any signs of corrosion.
Check the fuses too!
great help, thanks a million
welcome
Thx! 🙏
You're welcome Azi!
Great thanks
You are welcome
I can’t twist the captive nut off what tool could I use to loosen it please ?
I think it is P21/4W
Hi mate I dont know if youre still active here but i did this today with mine, and when i reconnected it all the side i changed wouldnt turn on any lights at all, nothing, so hazards no brake etc. Any idea what it could be?
Hi, I have 6 wires on left rear lights and 5 wires on right rear lights.
My left fog light works, and rear doesnt. Am I missing the wire ? Is it factory defect or its normal ?
I dont understand why would it be bulb with double filament when only one filament is working (main light) ?
The lowesst bulb is tail light and fog light
Hi MM, YES you are missing the wire, but NO it is not a defect. It's deliberate on the part of the manufacturer. The legal requirement is for a minimum of ONE fog light which must be on the drivers side. However, most cars are sold in both RHD and LHD markets, so both lights will have space for the bulb but all cars will be missing the bulb and often the wiring for the passenger side bulb. Bottom line is cost and weight saving - copper is expensive and heavy.
Hello! Do you happen to know how the rear lights are arranged on a Polo 9n facelift? The rear lights in your video here look very different from what i have.
Hi there Raluca,
Yes, i believe I can help. It's not possible to attach pictures to comments, so I have posted a picture & description for you in the Community tab.
hiya I got a quick question, I have just brought a polo twist 2004 and dose it only have one rear fog light on the right driver side?
Yeah, that's normal practice for most manufacturers. I can't remember if the wire is there or not, but try fitting a bulb. It's a cost cutting device for the manufacturer, because legislation only requires one fog light which must be on the driver side.
I got a question. When hitting the brakes, which bulbs light up? Mine are the top edge ones... single P21W - fog lights. I thought the P21/5W are supposed to also light up, but mine don't... hence why I'm baffled why that is.
Edit: nevermind, I have this document, titled Polo Model year 2002 and it shows the lights as mine are, the P21/5W is a tail light/rear fog light instead of lower tail / brake and the fog P21W is the brake light.
Hi Emm, yes, the 21W filament of the P21/5W bulbs should light when braking along with the P21W immediately above. Thus the tail lights (5W filament of P21/5W) lights up the lower 60% of the big round lamp, but the brake lights use 2 filaments per side to light up the whole round lamp. Maybe both your 21W filaments of the P21/5W bulbs are blown?? Just to be clear - a P21/5W has TWO filaments which can be lit independently, thus achieving 2 brightnesses of light from one bulb. Phew! does that make sense??
NB this would not be an MoT fail in UK as with one filament down, the brake light still works on that side courtesy of the second filament. An "on the ball" tester should note it as an advisory though. 👍
Is yours NOT a 9N then? 2000 is the previous version (6N?)
@@CycloneCyd my bad, 2002, that's the title but mine is a 9N1
@@CycloneCyd It makes sense, before I posted this I did pull out the bulb holders, tested all bulbs independently and all work fine. But it's alright. As it turns out, on my 9N1 the P21/5W is tail light & fog light. The thing is I don't have front fog lights and never used it and when I changed a brake bulb I noticed this 2 filament bulb and though that these are also brake bulbs, but I've never seen them work. Setting the lights switch to headlights position and pulling it out did turn the fog lights on, 2nd filament was burning and the fog light indicator popped on in the dash, not once have I used them in traffic. Now I'm thinking since they're pointless to me I might do some soldering and repurpose those as brake lights... would the fuse handle the Amps needed for the 4 bulbs of 21W + IDK how much the top brake lights use?
@@emmn.4307 Hi Emm, you've got me thinking now (can you smell the burning, lol). I haven't made a faux pas over the bulb ID in the video have I??
I'm at work ATM and the car is my son's, so as long as he is at home I'll look later.
At front what type of globes?
