It’s crazy to see Zahids size and build to going up fifty pounds to out work and break Martin at the end to being so much bigger than Hall here. Even than he had long arms and legs for his build but seems like his chest and back were stronger than opponents thought.
Mark use to wrestle with my son here in south west Ohio.. he always was a great young man. I'm glad to see him still dedicated.. I wish he would of worked more on the elbow pass..
In the 1982 Oklahoma / Oklahoma State dual David Schultz was attempting a reversal on Mike Sheets. About the only control Sheets had was that he had Schultz's ankle. The bout ended before Schultz could get his reversal, and Sheets beat Schultz by one point. Now they give points for takedowns and reversals even when they have the leg. I'm not used to seeing that.
Still crazy to go watch this and see Mark Hall take 1 shot and Zahid get called for that Stalling. He legit took like 50 shots in the first 2 periods with zero stall calls on Hall.
Great feature in Amateur Wrestling News August 2020 issue about this bout and others at 174 lbs. in Greatest Title Bouts of 21st Century. Also covers 2015 Brown/Wilps, 2017 Hall/Jordan, 2018 Valencia/Hall.
It wasn’t a PED, nor weed. It was cocaine and it was 3 times he failed. Why ASU suspended him. Had it been his 1st; they’d allow him to return. However, it’s his 3rd failed one and why many know about his issues with it. Hopefully he can just get the help he needs, & sticks with wires later on to keep him away from that lifestyle! Sad the double standard between our sport & Football players who will get just a 2 game suspension for beating women and doing coke! 🤦🏼♂️
Zahid Valencia is going to win GOLD! Dake trains hard and has great stamina but better technical wrestlers like Valencia always come out on top. Counter wrestlers like Dake wait for their opponents to make mistakes and very seldom do wrestlers at Valencia and Chamizo caliber make mistakes that cost points... Excellent wrestling!
Hey guys, new fan to the sport. Is NCAA wrestling's technical name freestyle wrestling or Greco-Roman? Or is NCAA wrestling its own thing? Just want to learn more about this topic.
Neither. It's Folkstyle wrestling. I don't know if you're from the U.S. but that is what we wrestle in high school during high school season and in college. There is no folkstyle wrestling in the worlds or olympics so the NCAA championship is the highest level of folkstyle wrestling there is. Most of these guys will transition into Freestyle after their college careers are over. Some actually do it their off season during high school and compete at the wold class level in freestyle during their off season while they are still in college. Hope this helps.

i don’t think zahid should’ve been awarded the takedown in the second period. even though he had the leg hooked, mark hall had the single leg in very strong
The takedown they gave Valencia making it 3-3 was not a takedown. When you control your opponents leg, he doesnt have control. This is always called a stalemate. Always. Except this match. Here they gave a takedown.
Steve Wildasin read up on what the NCAA defines as a takedown and revisit this. Here’s a hint, there is nothing about your opponent having control or no control of your legs. Rules change.
That two call on the cross face was interesting. Hall has to turn an face easier said than done but growing up wrestling u didn’t see that called two often unless the leg was draped on the inside.
the fella in the yella would have broken the other wrestlers leg if he hadn't given his back. a true champions choice to not win at all costs and the ref shouldn't have let it come to that to begin with
