How do you control the colors so well? Whenever I try marbling, the colors I use change more drastically than I'd like when they spread across the water. Your work is amazing!
A lot of that is the paint I use. Not all acrylic paint works for marbling. A lot of what is put in paint to make it work well as paint doesn’t work for marbling. So it can be trial and error to find a brand and colors that work. I was taught with Utrecht artist’s acrylic, they have a lot of colors that work really well. Though it still depends on the individual color. Could also be that you need to add more paint on the surface before laying the paper. If your colors are washed out because they’ve spread too thin, you might need to just keep adding paint until the drops don’t really expand anymore when you put them on the bath. That’s when you know the surface is full.
Beautiful as always. Your black is so well behaved! Is it Utrecht or a home brew ala Chena River? I've tried the Mars black from Utrecht and Liquitex as well as Utrecht medium + carbon black but no real success yet. Thanks for another great demo.
Thanks! I use Utrecht’s Mars black mostly. I’ve more recently tried their Ivory black as well. It works too, but can sometimes be a bit more…chalky looking? But some days I’ve had it work better than the Mara black, who can say why! By “work” I mean get a nice deep black. Sometimes both colors end up a more dark grey. I have noticed that the Mara black does not keep overnight very well. It sort of starts to separate and the it’s almost impossible for me to get a real black from it on the second day, I always have to mix some up fresh. The Mars black also works great for mixing together with other colors. I put a little (or a lot!) into almost every other color. It is a great way to get really dark greens/blues/reds. And makes good shades of grey mixed with white as well. (I’ve always used Liquitex for the white.)
My goodness! As exquisite as the music! Stunning Rachel! Pls keep it up!
I just love those colors. One of my favorites. Thank you.
