Honestly I think that instead of doing a live action film they should revive the series with the original animation style and have Greg Weismann do the story. Perhaps with a time jump that takes place in our time with the Quarrymen as the main villains. Perhaps giving Demona a redemption arc and showing a more of the blossoming relationship between Goliath and Elisa.

I wouldn't use him as director The tech on Avatar is great, but I think someone like Guillermo Del Toro or Denis Villeneuve would work better since they have a history of creating thoughtful dark fantasy and SciFi Plus, Del Toro directed Hellboy I and II, so he has two, of many, projects with sympathetic monsters in a contemporary setting
Gargoyles was waaaay ahead of its time! It was SOOO good with such deep, rich, heavy story plots that would be much more acceptable today! I was born in 96' and I had the tapes when I was young, I was devastated when I discovered it was already canceled by the time I really got into it lol. Best route to make Gargoyles a success in today's market, wouldn't be live action, but a continuation of the show. Have the show start right where the show was left off and have an event similar to how the show started. They became Stone after defeating an evil Sorcerer, in the new show, with the first Episode, it shows them right where it was left off, stopping the Quarrymen after Demonas betrayal. After being interviewed about their heroics, they return to their castle, at peace with their fate and living in the modern day 90s. But Demona was not, as she forces the same Sorcerer to turn Goliath and his clan into Stone once again, for choosing humanity over their own kind. Flash forward into Modern day 2023, and the Gargoyles have been freed, due to Magus taking action against Demona, and they will have to adjust to today's technological advances. No longer thinking humans as their enemy, but their own kind, as Demona has been forcing Magus against his will to revive and create new Gargoyles, as Demona wants revenge on humanity for what they've done to Gargoyles. But with Goliath and crew being freed, they stand in her way, but how will they fare against an army of their own kind thats utilized technology in their tactics, along with humans that are now fearful of Gargoyles once again due to Demonas actions the past 30 years.
They continued gargoyles as a comic and the stories in it r so good the they shouldve been the basis of the third season. The continuation should be an adaptation of the comics and maybe a fast foward later after adaptong the comics.
Disney would never do Gargoyles today.... correctly. Disney doesn't have money, because they can't turn a profit from their horrible attempts at entertainment the last 3 years. Disney does have a great opportunity though, they should sell the IP to a competent studio, so they can make some money. It's literally the only option for true fans that want quality and respect.
Considering that any movie would almost certainly focus on their time in medieval Scotland and the curse that brings them to the present day, I think a Netflix series in the vein of something like The Sandman, would be way better for the shows, sprawling mythology. We could get to some of the juicier content a little sooner than having to wait multiple movies to see some classic characters.
My idea of a Gargoyles sequel (after the comics), is to make a full on Universe that combines Gargoyles, Tarzan and Atlantis : The Lost Kingdom. How do they mix? Simple If you remember the Tarzan animated series, there was a character called Queen La of Opar, a city that was a colony of Atlantis in the books of ER Burroughs, and in the show she even looks like a Disney Atlantean and was even planned to be revealed as Kida's sister. Atlabtis because of the artifact called The Praying Gargoyle. There was even a planned crossover between Gargoyles and Atlabtis called "The Last", which would have Team Atlantis track Demona during the 20s. There is also a rumor that there would be a three part crossover with Tarzan where Team Atlantis work with Tarzan and his family to stop Demona and Queen La. Imagine if Tarzan and his family somehow end up in NY and join the Clan. We could even have Tarzan face off against Thailog in a 1v1. Basically, a Disney version of Godzilla vs Kong
Gargoyles still holds up as excellent to this day. I still think watch it every now and again. A well made Gargoyles movie would be sick. But only if they found the right creative people and Disney would be behind doing it right.

If they would want to do it right, following the same characters as the cartoon would be a good start. They would need to use a mix between cgi and prosthetic makeup, but not use cgi to the point where it looks campy or cartoonish. I always pictured Michael Dorn as Goliath and Jonathon Frakes as Xanatos. Keanu Reeves would also make an awesome Xanatos. He would give people chills and set a very firm and like-able presence the right kind. A strong, tall athletic actor with a very serious demeanor mid thirties to mid forties would make a good Goliath. Vin Diesel would maybe be good, but probably someone younger. Jason Momoa would be ok, but he has a goofy demeanor and they have used him too much. They would need a good, strong male figure, that people respect and almost love as the protagonist. Disney has been leaning away from this unfortunately. Arianna Grande would make an interesting Elisa Maza. Owen could be done by maybe Daniel Craig. If they leaned towards almost a Matrix like movie it could be quite awesome. Owens secret would also be cool with the use of another actor and cgi. Getting James Cameron and Tim Burton to direct it together would also be an interesting idea, however, they would need to do it without their overall themes of over the top summer movie blockbuster and black/white Burtonesque overly gloomy film.
They said Hasbro would never do live action beast wars and now they are, and Gargoyles was on par with Beast Wars for new ideas and dark tones in childrens fantasy, I'm not a disney fan but they can have my money with a live-action Gargoyles.
Yes please make a Gargolye movie please just like transformers I greew up with these. Make one lifelike or cartoon lifelike. Digital remastered of them breaking out of the Stones. ..I can't Wait.
Personally, I'd prefer an enhanced animated feature, but if they did go with the live action, here are my suggestions. Since Goliath would be CGI, there's absolutely no reason to recast him unless Keith David is dead or retired by the time they get this thing going. Keith is irreplaceable. Michael would be great ONLY if Keith isn't available. Jason sounds too dumb for the part. As for Elisa, Rosario would have been a great choice for her....20 years ago. She's a woman in her mid 20's, not 40's. Then again, Sallie Richardson, the original Elisa, is still so good looking she could probably play her even at 55. Elisa is half black, half native American, so the other two choices are not suitable. Sallie or Jessica Alba would have been the best choice back in the early 2000's, but I would suggest a Brazilian looking actress of mixed origin to play her. Much like Goliath, the other gargoyles would be CGI, so there is no reason to replace the original cast - aside from Hudson, played by the late Ed Asner. The hardest casting choice of all is Xanatos. Johnathan Frakes has some very big shoes to fill, but sadly he's too old for the part now. I suppose they could deep fake him. He still has the voice. Demona would do just fine with Marina Sirtis. As for the effects. I suggest very large actors in suits, modified by CGI, not just pure CGI. Practical effects will always deliver an organic quality that CGI garbage just can't. They'd only need it for facial features, assisting some stunts, and perhaps the function of the wings. Most importantly: STAY FAITHFUL TO THE ORIGINAL STORY! No woke bullshit.

I don't understand the call for Rosario Dawson to play her, as I thought she was mixed Black/White. Problem is, there's not that many big name NA actresses that would put butts in seats, if any, because woke Hollywood continues to be bland and not as diverse or inclusive as they claim. I guess Momoa is young enough and has the right build for mo-cap, but I'd rather have Keith David do the voice for the nostalgia bait/he'd jump at it, I'm sure. A better choice for height would be little known Daniel Cudmore, but he doesn't have the correct facial structure. Momoa is like a 1:1 for Goliath's face, with the unique nose and high cheekbones, never mind being buff as the dickens! I gotta make a fancast video this week, I got a big itch now. It's taking self-control not to get the Brooklyn fig off Amazon too. (I'd get Goliath, but he's 50 and BBTS has proven bad for shipping, even though he's cheaper there.) It’s been a long time since I’ve watched the cartoon so I may be wrong about his name, I believe it’s Lexington, but anyways the smaller winged gargoyle in live action being played by Rey Mysterio Jr would be awesome. Not only because of his smaller size but also just looking at his facial features, it almost looks like the cartoons character design was based on Ray lol.
Let's face it, this is current day woke Hollywood and since they're owned by Disney, it makes it even worse. They'll make Demona the "protagonist" and have her single-handedly take down Xanatos and his "evil empire" which seeks to kill all the other gargoyles. They'll make her a black woman and her love interest will be Elisa Maza because "their love is forbidden" and they need to prove that it can happen. Also because it checks all the diversity boxes since neither are white or straight. The male gargoyles will all be slapstick comedy and just general comic relief, mostly supporting roles. Xanatos will, of course, be a while male and his main goal is corporate greed and he needs to stop the gargoyles from foiling his plans to create technology that will rule the world. Prove me wrong.

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched the cartoon so I may be wrong about his name, I believe it’s Lexington, but anyways the smaller winged gargoyle in live action being played by Rey Mysterio Jr would be awesome. Not only because of his smaller size but also just looking at his facial features, it almost looks like the cartoons character design was based on Ray lol.

Let's face it, this is current day woke Hollywood and since they're owned by Disney, it makes it even worse. They'll make Demona the "protagonist" and have her single-handedly take down Xanatos and his "evil empire" which seeks to kill all the other gargoyles. They'll make her a black woman and her love interest will be Elisa Maza because "their love is forbidden" and they need to prove that it can happen. Also because it checks all the diversity boxes since neither are white or straight. The male gargoyles will all be slapstick comedy and just general comic relief, mostly supporting roles. Xanatos will, of course, be a while male and his main goal is corporate greed and he needs to stop the gargoyles from foiling his plans to create technology that will rule the world.
