Just did swap heres some tips: 1> If you have ABS module by the stearing box its damn hard to thread hoses to stearing box u might cross thread. So before putting the pump and bracket in, put your hoses on the stearing box but dont torque them down yet. Them put the bracket and pump in. Once thats done hook up the hoses to pump end and synch both ends of the hoses. 2> if you already swapped out your idler pulley for a metal pulley like the one on the tensioner than stock belt is almost too small. I had too pull the tensioner back completely and slip over the idler. Then its almost fully compressed when you release it. So be plan on checking it and possibly get a slightly larger belt.
Thanks for all of your F150 videos. I am doinh a major (330,000 mile) rehab on my 1994 5.8 liter EFI. You have sure made this 71 year old man's life much easier!
Man the amount of work you’ve put into this single truck is immaculate. I’d love to see what it looked like and how it ran years ago before you replaced everything to see the difference
I wish it was as immaculate as you think. Overall it’s a great running truck. I DD it, so I’m constantly dealing with wear and tear. The body needs a paint job and there’s some miscellaneous body rust. Otherwise, the exterior would look amazing. The suspension is shot and needs to be completely overhauled. The frame is good. Engine idles a bit rough lately and my OD light on my shifter is blinking. Some days it feels like a hot mess. Lol But again, it’s solid and gets me from A to B.
I just did this swap in my 91 F150! Great tutorial. I did end up a little unlucky in that the pump I pulled from the junkyard was actually bad, but I got to learn how to use a pulley puller and do a full power steering flush in the process. All done, I still think I came out on top. The new pump is whisper quiet and noticeably stronger than the OE one. Thanks for making these vids! I feel super lucky that you have *mostly* the same truck I do so I've been following along and will continue to.
Thanks man!🤙 Ah! I guess we all roll the dice when we pull these pumps from the junkyard. Good experience though and the Saginaw pump outperforms the OE pump in every way. You are most welcome! I appreciate you watching my videos!
The upgraded pump with a limited warranty is only 145+ shipping and the rebuild kit is 50+15 at the yard for the pump and if there’s damaged the kit WILL NOT fix your steering looseness just the seals as you experienced already.
@@ryano9520 oh yeah, I got a new pump. Maybe that wasn’t clear. Had to have the bracket from the junkyard. It’s just the pump that I pulled from the junkyard was no good. Once I replaced it with a new one I was good to go 👍
Just found your channel. My youngest son just got his first vehicle that i looked for over a year to find ( a 1994 f150 w/ 96k original miles on 5.0l.) Having trans rebuilt due to old seals not letting it shift right. He LOVES the old Fords almost as much as me. Mines a '68
Hands down probably one of the best upgrades ive done to my truck. Steering is quiet and so easy. Took me about 2 hours taking my time on a 4.9 liter. One tip... when you find an E series donor van and take the pump and mount, save all of the hardware. When I was removing the bolts from my compressor 2 of my bolts broke off in the block. The van bolts saved my bacon.
Hey Joshua (or m.m.) what belt did you use for your 4.9L? Also, do you know what bolts are required? (I have a bracket being shipped without bolts) thank you
Just did my swap today, I love it! Removed junkyard 94 E350 w/351 and was 100% perfect fit for my 95 F150 XL. Bought a new high pressure hose from donor van. Slight manipulation worked fine, kept stock cooler on my truck (kept in circuit) and pulley was same diameter. The van I pulled it from didn’t have a cooler. Pump was still in great shape, full of fluid (not burnt smelling) dry on outside and the lines were clean. It had a name of a church on the van, I considered myself lucky to find. I can see why one would use the hose kit from desolate motorsports for a clean, and easy install. But all worked out great. Thanks for the inspiration Stevie 😁 Total investment $30 pump & bracket from junkyard, $25.99 high pressure hose from O’Reilly Part# PPS 13401402, 1 quart of Type F $10. LOVING IT!!!
3 months later, still working great. I still cringe when I turn wheel in place without moving (like in driveway) and anticipate the hiss and whine, there is none lol, it’s been burned in my head to naturally hear it 😂. Really a must. It works so well. Thanks again Stevie for the inspiration to do it.
Literally the best bolt on upgrade for these trucks👌🏼 i got a custom made pressure line for mine but only because i was in a rush to get it done lol i put ATF cause i found out those pumps used that fluid from factory. Its been fine since then, Did it 4 months ago and it drives like a Cadillac now👍🏼
100% the best bolt on upgrade! I think most people make a custom high pressure line or adapt one. Really? I wonder why Desolate Motorsports recommends actual PSF. Yeah mine definitely feels and steers like a Cadillac!
@@kevinrich9471 If you want to do the Saginaw pump ungraded on a 4.9 you need to find a 4.9 bracket from an e-series van. The only thing you have to look out for is if your truck has AC. Then you’ll need to find a 4.9 bracket from an E series van that also has AC.
I just randomly started this video. I saw a leak in my driveway and saw the area it was coming from. Its the steering fluid and you just showed me what to do! along with the gear box and steering column videos I just watched. I'm a novice. Thanks a ton for this video. I'm try to get the bracket off so I can change that freeze plug back there. I've been trying to break them loose by hand to no success and didn't even think to use my impact driver for fear of breaking a bolt.
awesome video very self explanatory step by step........ the best of the video for me was about the diagram that shows the pulley's line up which it is TOTALLY different to my '95 f-150 due it is a MANUAL transmission....thanks for your time
A very good tutorial! I have done this on several OBS trucks and highly recommend it. Most recently I did my first on a truck with a 300-I6. Here are several thoughts on this. First, many of these brackets from earlier E-Series vans will have the older style larger SAE sized AC compressor bolts (1/2", I believe). If you get one of these be sure to also get the mount bolts for your conversion. They will work with your compressor but you will need to drill out the mount holes in order to accommodate the 1/2" bolts rather than the 6 mm size the truck came with from the factory. Should you only be able to find a pre-serpentine belt van the bracket will still work but you will need to locate a serpentine style pulley for the Saginaw pump since the Ford C-II pulley has a different size hub so the pulleys are not interchangeable. You may also consider, regardless of your donor van, getting a new or rebuilt pump since any you find will probably be original and therefore already 30+ years old. Also, while you have the PS system open try to bleed out all the old fluid from the steering gear box. This is also a good time to add a screen or filter to the fluid return line.
Thank you, Don!🤙 this is definitely one of my favorite mods for an OBS Fords. Good info on the bracket and bolt conversion. Hopefully somebody who needs that information, can get it in the comments as I often suggest they do for the straight six engines.
I’m going to do this for a 1989 ford bronco I’m new at all this stuff. I have a 5.0 with a/c what can should I look for at a junk yard for the bracket. And should I get a HP hose made for the pump and steering box and the low pressure? Thank you
Thanks man!🤙 I appreciate it! Nice! I’ve wanted to do that for a while. What brand did you use? I know Dee Zee makes assists but nothing for a 1995. So I thought about adapting it.
Hey Stevie! You linked the full, new pump kit from DM- Any idea if their new Saginaw pump is as quiet and effective as one off of an E-Line? How do they compare?
Hi! The Saginaw pumps should be identical. The DM kit will be a brand new pump whereas my junkyard pump isn’t. They make their bracket and I’m using an E-series bracket.
Is very nice when you live in a country where you can find everythin that you need for your truck. Here in México is very hard to find parts for this trucks, i miss Texas.
@@TheMinuteMasters yes i can order on line but is too espensive to ship it to mexico plus import cost, what I do is order and ship to my dougther adress in texas and wait , am like she is coming for xmas this year and shes goin to bring me some small parts for the transmisión that is having some problems and see if i can fix it. In the USA you can fine new or used parts, but here neider new or old.
This is awesome. I need to check out desolate and see if they have a hose kit for the Inline 6 truck. I’ve had a pump and bracket sitting for a while but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Thanks Miguel!🤙 Yeah you’ll have to check. It might be something you’ll have to fab up. If you read through the comment section of this video, there is one guy who’s done the in-line 6 Saginaw pump swap and he provides good details.
I did the swap on a 95 4.9L. I just ordered a hose for an e150 and it fit fine. I had to drill and tap a hole in the new bracket. I think it was for the throttle cable bracket if I remember correctly. It's been a few years since I did the swap. I did need a longer belt for the new pump.
I'm gonna do it next week...gathering the last few supplies over this next week. Researched it, ad nauseum, now it's time to execute the plan. We could do a collab video. @@TheMinuteMasters
Planning on doing an intake change using an intake designed for a mustang. That will require me to rotate the upper 180 degrees. Is this anything you have tried before?
@@TheMinuteMasters I’m gonna use a gt40 intake, and lightning accessories for the throttle cable and such. Bbk 65mm tb, and 1.5 phenolic spacer to make the runners longer.
Love this channel, a lot of useful info. With that said, I have a 95 bronco w/5.0 and did the conversion. I got the different bracket but am having a problem with the alignment of the belt with everything else. Not sure if I got the right power steering unit. I purchased the newer one and the pump sits back about 1/4 inch so it keeps tearing up belts. Im stuck. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Hey bud love all your content I've used many body videos to make improvements to my rig 😊 (I have a short the truck in my profile) the thing is I have a F250 5.8 1996 I realize it's complete different engines but I just want you to know I really appreciate your videos man ❤
Love the video man awesome work. This is just what I need. Just a quick question could you purchase a brand new pump and bracket from say the part store for that year Econoline to do this mod?
great video! stupid question here. When you started her up and burped the lines, was the reservoir cap on or off? In the video it was off when you said your were going to do it and on when you when back to it.
Thanks man!🤙 Not at all. I left the cap off while I burped the lines. The fluid should never overflow under any circumstances. If it does, there had to be a ton of air in there to displace the fluid.
Also new kit eliminated using the cooler hardline loop on crossmember per instructions. Although i cant really see any downside to using if the cooler isn't leaking.
@@TheMinuteMasters I sure did. I liked how it made life easy. No junk yard hunting for a high pressure hose. Also liked the fittings. Highly recommended.
Damn man, I've been chasing that noise for 2 weeks now. I got the truck on trade and heard that whine figured bad pump nope its brand new, chased lines did have a leak fixed that still whines. It's a Ford thing, okay. Thanks for the video!
I have 93 bronco 5.8. I took off my idler pulley and smog pump pulley to delete bypass smog pump that was clicking like crazy and went with smaller serpentine belt. Will this DM kit still work with my shorter belt. I do have ac and everything works right now. My brand new motorcraft power steering pump whines like a beast.
That A/c compressor had two plugs on it. A two pin. And that round four pin. Would you happen to know a part number on it. My 93 EB Bronco has the same set up but wrong compressor installed and I’m doing a Power steering and AC revamp
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. What I’ve done in the past is gone to an auto parts store and had them for a couple of different model and year parts off the shelf and I just compared them.
I think you can buy the Saginaw pumps anywhere that you buy new parts. Technically you would ask for the pump corresponding to the make and model van it is taken from. So in this case you would be asking for a 1995 Ford E150 power steering pump.
Hey thanks for the tutorial. I just did this tonight and when i started it it had a whine then went away. But when driving and getting ready to turn i can hear it whine even more. I bled it per instructions and used atf type f per the paper that came with it. How long did yours whine after you did this upgrade? Their is very little air bubbling to the top. Thank you.
Interesting. Have you driven it around for a while? Also, the Saginaw pump is a GM product and they use actual power steering fluid. At least that’s what I used. The OE Ford power steering pump used ATF Mercon V.
@TheMinuteMasters I drove it maybe 30 min. Idk i followed the little paper that came with it. If I drain it out and put power steering fluid in do you think it'll be ok? I doubt the atf hurt anything.
I have no idea. I bought the truck with it cut but never noticed it. A transmission shop actually pointed it out to me. Nice! 🤙 I’ve got a video coming out, hopefully this week, about installing the Borgeson steering shaft upgrade. I’ve test driven it already and it’s nice!😁
What size pulley do I need to get I’m getting the line kit you suggested and when I called they said they use 20-7878 pump in there kits. Amazon has them for $45 so I need to know what size of pulley I should get. Thank you
@@TheMinuteMasters ya it was the inspection port back there 10 bolts I think but after having a fight with the parts guy I grabbed a sheet of cork and a little baby hammer and fixed the problem.
Hello, I am your subscriber. I saw your video, is it the cause of the Power Stringing Pump making that sound from the High Pressure Hose? And the hose you replaced is not the original one that came with the car? And finally, is there something like a spiral in the hose that you replaced? Thank you, I'm waiting for your answer. Always success. Gbu
I’m not sure what causes the sound from the original pump. Supposedly you can fix the same back exchanging the power steering fluid with Mercon V transmission fluid. The Saginaw pump uses power steering fluid and as long as it’s at the correct level, it should be relatively quiet. The hose needed to adapt the Saginaw pump is the high pressure hose. It’s not the original hose. I don’t think there is a spiral piece either. Thanks man!
I think you can find a bracket from a similar year van. Otherwise, I don't see why a newer 5.0 bracket wouldn't work as long as the belt is the same type and length.
I hate to bug man but it's snowing out here in nm and I was pulling some people out of the ditch and then all of a sudden my f150 5.8 started sputtering and then shut off and left me dead on the road any suggestions?
Will the swap work if I use the two hoses from the donor van or will they need to be upgraded I managed to get the whole assembly from a 95 e250 with a 5.8 and its the same engine in my bronco I just don't know if the high pressure lines from the van will hook up to the bronco or will they need to be upgraded as well
Good question. The high-pressure line from the van will need to be retrofitted in order to work. Otherwise I recommend getting the high-pressure line hose kit from Desolate Motorsports. There should be a link in the video description.
@@TheMinuteMasters sounds good your video was very helpful my power steering pump is giving out due to the pulley being able to move forward and back and it squeaks loud so I thought what a better time to upgrade to something less noisy my current pump is noisier than my truck and its straight pipped so this will hopefully be quieter and better steering since my truck is lifted 6 inches and on 33s going to be 37s soon ps I'm using my wife's laptop that's why her name pops up but she loves the bronco too so its all good 🤣
@@emilyruelas358 thanks man!🤙 I’m glad I could help you out! Definitely a good time to upgrade. Sometimes that’s what’s nice about diesel trucks. Stuff brakes and it gives you a great excuse.
I have a question, i would like to do this mod on my 1993 ford f-150 5.0 and the high pressure line has a sensor on it. Do i just unplug it and use the van high pressure hose and everything will be ok?
@@TheMinuteMasters Thanks for the reply! it boosts the idle up when your turning so your truck doesn't stall i guess it only comes on some models. I unplugged mine and did the swap. BEST thing i've ever done to these trucks!! i'm going to watch all of your channel and see what else i can do to mine. Thanks!
I love easy to do mods but I was in a pinch. Lost all my power steering fluid put Mercon V ATF in the reservoir and never heard a power steering noise. Tried draining the ATF for proper power steering fluid and the noise came back with vengeance. I have a 96 f150 so your mileage may vary.
I've recently read in quite a few different sources that you should use the fluid that the originally used (Mercon V) and not what your new Saginaw pump originally used. The pumps can pump any of these fluids, it's the steering boxes that need the correct fluid, which has evolved over the years...Mercon>>>MerconV, for example. @@TheMinuteMasters
@@TheMinuteMasters after a couple weeks of calling and waiting for reply’s I finally found a pump and bracket out of a E350 for $55. Amazon has the pump fitting Russell #648060 for $9. I never would hav known you could do this otherwise.
My AC does work. I think it could be colder. So far, I have a few minor fixes for the HVAC system in general but I haven’t had to replace any of the big parts: condenser, compressor, etc.
Check the tiny vacuum line near the firewall by the heater core lines. I have seen videos where that vacuum line dry rots and messes with the ac for some reason.
Hey Stevie! What length belt do you have on your 302? I did the 3g alternator upgrade along with this one and for the life of me, I can't figure out what the right belt size is. Dealing with belt squeal and the shop I took it to couldn't figure it out either. Any help is appreciated!
I use the stock belt and the pulley that came on the 3G alternator. It might be worth just buying a new stocked belt and see if that fixes your issues.
It sure does! You just need to find a bracket from a 4.9 L E-series Ford van. If you look through the comments below this video. there is a guy who is sharing information about how to do that on a 4.9 L.
Partly into the video, but what about the "farmer steer"? When my steering wheel is so sloppy and I can turn it a good 1/4 turn before there's any noticeable input? The steering input is soft, unresponsive, and I can wobble the steering wheel back and forth going straight and it would take a CONSIDERABLE turn before anything happens. Would this mod help that?
This would increase the responsiveness of the steering. If you want to tighten of the steering and get rid of the sloppiness you need to: - replace the steering gear box (I have a video on this) - replace the tie rod ends - upgrade the steering shaft to a Borgeson one. (Hopefully, a video soon)
What he said ^^^^ Leaking oil will melt the OEM rubber axle pivot and radius arm bushings and make all sorts of slop in the steering too. Upgrading to polyurethane will make a big difference. Ball joints need to be in good shape too.
I don’t know the exact year range. The engine being the same as yours seems to be the most important. With that said, I would think 90s e-series is where you want to start. Yes, you can get the pump from an auto parts store brand new.
Hi Eddie! Thanks man!🤙 I bought one bottle of power steering fluid. Some people also use Mercon V ATF. I’ve been told use ATF in the OE pump and power steering fluid in the Saginaw. So I’d get one bottle of power steering fluid.
You can definitely do a Saginaw pump swap. You will need a 4.9 bracket from a Ford E-series van. If you read through these comments, there is a guy who explains all the minor things you have to do with a 4.9 Saginaw pump swap.
So you never mentioned what years fit. I have a 93 F150, so does that mean I need the pump from a 93 E150? I'm just worried about bracket fitment. Thanks for the video!
You can get the pump and bracket from a range of years. It’s mostly dependent on the engine type. If you find the exact year and engine, you are golden!🤙
Hey Stevie, did you actually have a problem with your power steering? I just put in a new stock pump, and replaced the two main hoses/steel lines, as part of my rebuild. However, I never had any problem with power steering, other than some leakage from the loose cap on my old power steering pump.
Hey Joe! Nope my power steering pump was fine, aside from the fact it has 238k miles on it. This pump is upgrade/performance mod for these f150s. The Saginaw pump has more power and it doesn’t have the whining noise the stock pump had. If you replaced your pump with stick equipment, you’ll be good to go. I’m just picky. Lol
@@TheMinuteMasters Lol...I never heard of an exhaust cutout, but just read about it. Sounds pretty cool. I guess it allows you to have the occasional choice of bypassing parts of your exhaust system? I still haven't modified my exhaust system....so I have the stock 2-1/4" pipe, I think. I'm not thinking about dual pipes, but probably enlarging the single exhaust to either 2-1/2"....or probably 3". Maybe next year. Not sure if I'll get a flowmaster...or cherry bomb muffler...lol.
@@joeidaho5938 Yup, the way I see it. You could put an exhaust cut out right before a very quiet muffler and put a cherry bomb on the exhaust cut out side. Then you have the best of both worlds. With the flick of a switch you can be loud or quiet!🤙 I recommend a 2-1/2” exhaust for a gas truck. I don’t think 3” helps with performance and it may even decrease performance.
First I'm gonna do a complete flush with Mercon V, of the C2 Ford pump & steering box for shits & giggles, all the while I've gathered all the parts for the Saginaw swap in case the flushing of the C2 pump doesn't work or it works and then start squealing again within a few weeks/months. I'll take my time and clean up the bracket and flush, clean, paint the pump & pulley and have it ready. Then if I decide to do the swap it will be a fun saturday project. Thanks for the video.@@TheMinuteMasters

Nice! You are most welcome!🤙 The good news is, you can reuse your factory bracket bolts and ac compressor bolts. The guy who pulled my setup from the junkyard, included the bolts but they were identical. Even the lengths were the same.
Just did swap heres some tips:
1> If you have ABS module by the stearing box its damn hard to thread hoses to stearing box u might cross thread.
Great tips Josh!🤙 I hope people read the comments and find them. They will come in handy.

Great to hear man and glad you are loving it! Definitely one of my favorite mods that was pretty straightforward.
You’re welcome!
Great stuff! Anything for the 4.9 on my ‘95? Thx!

I’m glad I found your channel. I don’t have an F150 but I have an OBS Ford Bronco and a lot of things are the same. Very helpful video.
Glad to hear it man! Welcome to my channel!🤙 Definitely lots of similar parts between the OBS F150s and Bronco.
Found this video and would love to tackle this on my 96 Bronco! Is there a particular year of E-series vans I’m looking for to pull from?
You just need to find an e-series van with the same engine as your Bronco that has the Saginaw pump.
Another great video from your channel. But quick question, what year E-150 will work?
Good question! I’m not exactly sure what years but I’d search 90s through 2006.

They make their bracket and I’m using an E-series bracket.

great video! stupid question here. When you started her up and burped the lines, was the reservoir cap on or off? In the video it was off when you said your were going to do it and on when you when back to it.

Will this pump fit a 1990 F150? There is an E-series at my local Pull A Part. I have a terrible whine. My compressor is below my PS pump.
I don’t see why not as long as you get the correct bracket for your engine.
Is the bracket the same for the 4.9 inline 6?
The brackets for the 4.9 is different from the 5.0 & 5.8 bracket.
I was wondering if this the same with my 1989? engine looks different but I wasn’t sure
My understanding is that as long as the engines are the same, the bracket should work regardless of year.
Good question. I don’t know for sure. I’d assume it would if the pulleys are the same size. I never had to change the belt so this could work for you.
@@TheMinuteMasters ok thank u!
I was wondering what year of Vans u can get the parts from does it have to be same year?
If I remember correctly, you just need to find a van with the same engine. You can’t go wrong with pulling it from a 90s era van though.
Just saw your video I have a 95 ford bronco 5.8 that I wanna do the swap too any recommendation on where I can buy the pump new instead of a junk yard
I think you can buy the Saginaw pumps anywhere that you buy new parts. Technically you would ask for the pump corresponding to the make and model van it is taken from. So in this case you would be asking for a 1995 Ford E150 power steering pump.
Yessss i was waiting for this you’re awesome

@@joshhoffner3996 Gotcha. I doubt the ATF well heard it either. Who knows maybe flushing out the fluid could help.
@TheMinuteMasters thank you for answering. I swapped it back to power steering fluid and the whine is better but I haven't driven it since to see.

@@abrahambarraza199 You’ll want to drain or flush that out. The Saginaw pump uses actual power steering fluid. The OEM used ATF.
My 1990 F150 has a pressure sensor in line. Is there an adapter to put this in when I do this upgrade or do I not reinstall the pressure sensor?
Interesting. I don’t recall a pressure sensor on my stock pump. You can always try installing it without the sensor and see what happens.

What bracket will work on a 1989 ford bronco 5.0 with a/c so I can grab one from the junk yard
I think you can find a bracket from a similar year van. Otherwise, I don't see why a newer 5.0 bracket wouldn't work as long as the belt is the same type and length.
I know its late so just to be safe the 5.0 bracket will not work for the 5.8?
I think they are interchangeable. Don’t Tell My Wife Racing has the bracket listed as 5.0/5.8.

@TheMinuteMasters yes the engine turns over no overheating oil pressure is there new distributor, plugs, pcm and fresh gas
I have a 92 ford f150. It has a pressure valve switch on the line. Do I leave it on some way or do away with it? Thanks

if you had an og power steering pump, then the mercon v is what you should have been going with anyway right?
@@unclereub4024 Yes, Mercon V for og power steering pump.

You will need a new high pressure line hose. You can buy the kit I have linked in the description or you can retrofit one from an E-series van.

An in-line filter isn’t a bad idea. I’ve heard it’s great for both the pump and steering gear box.
Hi there again quick question does your AC work? Do you have any videos on redoing a complete AC system?
My AC does work. I think it could be colder. So far, I have a few minor fixes for the HVAC system in general but I haven’t had to replace any of the big parts: condenser, compressor, etc.
Check the tiny vacuum line near the firewall by the heater core lines. I have seen videos where that vacuum line dry rots and messes with the ac for some reason.

@@TheMinuteMasters right on. I think I have the stock belt size but it could just be that picked a low quality belt. I’ll try another one. Thanks!

I’ll put it this way, other things that need upgraded on your truck. I would do those first. However, this is one of my favorite mods.

@@payton5759 I know the feeling man! It sucks. These trucks look great when they’re all together but that noise just makes them sound like shit.
Can you do this swap with the 300 I6
Yes, you just need to correct bracket.
What year van can I get the bracket and pump off
I can’t remember what years but it most has to do with engine type. So if you need a bracket for a 5.0 then you need to find a van with a 5.0.
I’m guessing this all may be different with the inline 6 motors?
The in-line 6 engine is a little different. If you sort through the comments under this video, you will see one comment that explains the difference.
If you want to tighten of the steering and get rid of the sloppiness you need to:
- replace the steering gear box (I have a video on this)
- replace the tie rod ends
- upgrade the steering shaft to a Borgeson one. (Hopefully, a video soon)
What he said ^^^^ Leaking oil will melt the OEM rubber axle pivot and radius arm bushings and make all sorts of slop in the steering too. Upgrading to polyurethane will make a big difference. Ball joints need to be in good shape too.
What year E-series van am I looking for?
Also can I purchase this pump new from the parts store?
I don’t know the exact year range. The engine being the same as yours seems to be the most important. With that said, I would think 90s e-series is where you want to start.
Yes, you can get the pump from an auto parts store brand new.

Good question! I don’t know that torque spec off hand. I just a very lite ugga dugga with my impact gun and called it a day.
This doesn’t work with 4.9l I6 does it?
It sure does! There’s more info in the comments.
@@TheMinuteMasters ok thank you for replying to an older video. Sounds like I need to find the bracket and pump from a 4.9.
@@forsakenace9577 Correct!
what year e series van do i have to pull it from?
I’m assuming it’s from 80s-through 90s. Basically whatever years have the same engine you have.
Hey nice video man where’d your get your hat from love it man
Thanks man!🤙 I appreciate it. My hat is from Troll Clothing Co. If you search “dirty hands clean money”, that would also take you to the website.
For Ford F-150 1992 4.9L 6l It's working?
Yup, you can do this swap with a 4.9L. You just need the 4.9L bracket.
@@TheMinuteMasters thanks man
So you never mentioned what years fit.
I realize this is a few months late, but the E series used the saginaw pumps from 93-95.
Lol
@@TheMinuteMasters Ya....get rid of that whining sound....and then add a cherry bomb muffler...lol. I love loud exhaust.
@@joeidaho5938 Hahaha! I have a magnaflow on there now but it’s not a loud one. I’m thinking of doing an exhaust cut out.
Does it have to be a Saginaw pump to get rid of the whining noise or will just replacing it in general get rid of it?
Replacing it doesn’t normally get rid of the noise. However I have heard that Mercon V ATF will get rid of the noise sometimes.
I’ve got the parts to convert my 4.9, just waiting for the time to get it done.
Nice!🤙 You’ll love it. Took me about 2 hours. So without filming, it would have taken me less time.
Steve, what belt did you use for your 4.9? I finally found a bracket that came available, now i am collecting the other parts needed. Thank you
@@carlbrooks6573 I still haven’t gotten mine installed yet, hopefully this summer sometime. I am planning on starting with the original belt since there isn’t a lot of difference in pulley size, and then go from there.
@@SteveStoltz ok, sounds like we are on the same time line, i looked at belt lenghts that fit the 4.9 with ac, and there is 1 inch difference between the manufacturer's on their listed specs. Some were 98+ inches some were 99+ thanks for the reply.
I have a 1995 f150 5.0 needing a power steering pump, I also have a 94 ford van with a 5.0. Is this the type of van with the pump you are talking about?
Yup! The pump in your 94 5.0 van should be a direct swap. Bracket too!🤙
@@TheMinuteMasters awesome!! Thanks man! Almost every time I break something on my truck I check your page and you will have posted a video a month or 2 before hand of fixing the same problem 🤣 I appreciate the awesome videos!
@@johnbranson5928 No problem man! 🤙 That’s what I like to hear! Hopefully I can stay ahead of your fixes so you can always have a video ready for ya! Thanks for watching John!
i have a 1988 f250 with a 5.8L, and i have a 1985 chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 with a brand new power steering pump i put on it just before i got t-boned. my question is. what bracket and pulley would i need? maybe from a 1987 to 1991 van with a 5.8L ? any help would be greatly appricated
That’s a good question. I would assume you would need a 5.8L bracket from an E Series ford van. I’m not sure if you need to find an 88 E series or if you can use a newer year bracket.
@@TheMinuteMasters my neighbor has a 93 van with a 5.8L went to look at it. it seems to be the same bracket for both . so i guess all i need is to get a new pressure hose and cut the end and flair it to fit my 88 gear box. thanks for the video, that plastic pump is garbage i hate that noise
@@awh5773 Nice! You are lucky he has to bracket close by so you can compare. Yup, you just need to adapt the pressure line and you are good to go. Yeah, that plastic pump is terrible. Who that whoever thought designing a pump to have a noise like that was a crazy.
@@TheMinuteMasters mine screams like a banchi. And it 3 years old and new from Ford. Not a rebuild. But I will save it and the bracket for a spare just incase
@@awh5773 Hahaha! Mine was terrible too. Sometimes I had to turn my truck off if I went through a drive-through to order food. 😂
ive learned enjoy the whine
😂😂😂
No way, drives me absolutely insane every day
Hi Steve, what happened to your tonneau cover ?
I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph and I had the cover open because I was picking up patio furniture. A gust of cross wind ripped the cover right off and it smack several hundred feet behind me. Luckily, no one was behind me.
Question.. I have the parts to do this swap to my 95 F-150 5.8 just needed the pressure line (just ordered Stevie, thanks!) But the bracket I got from the boneyard didn't have compressor bracket bolts. I've heard the original bolts will not work supposedly and I need the Saginaw bracket bolts? Different size? Is this true? Did you use your factory compressor bolts?
Nice! You are most welcome!🤙 The good news is, you can reuse your factory bracket bolts and ac compressor bolts. The guy who pulled my setup from the junkyard, included the bolts but they were identical. Even the lengths were the same.
Hello, I replaced my power steering pump and it’s still making noise, it is wining and idk what I did wrong. Do you possibly know!
Hi Sean, did you install a factory power steering pump or did you do the Saginaw power steering pump swap?
@@TheMinuteMasters it was a factory pump
