ROMANTICIZING VAN LIFE AND I’M DEALING WITH BURN OUT
    • ROMANTICIZING VAN LIFE...
It’s hard I think sometimes not romanticizing van life because it seems so freeing and like you don’t have a care in the world. It can be even harder to have a home on wheels, especially when you are overwhelmed in life. I’m actively in burnout right now but trying to do things to get back on track.
Good morning and welcome back to my channel! Today, I'm sharing my honest thoughts on the romanticization of van life and the reality of burnout. As someone currently living in a van and helping my mom, I've experienced firsthand the challenges of balancing self-care, responsibilities, and the demands of van life.
From dealing with paperwork and bureaucracy to handling multiple vehicles and unexpected repairs, I'm opening up about my struggles and acknowledging burnout's importance. It's time to get real about the van life experience and recognize the signs of exhaustion.
I'll be sharing my recent experiences, including my trip to North Dakota, dealing with car troubles, and navigating the challenges of helping my mom. I'll also be discussing the importance of self-care, setting boundaries, and prioritizing your well-being.
Join me as I share my journey, from the highs of exploring new places to the lows of dealing with setbacks and burnout. Let's connect and grow together, and remember, it's okay to not be okay. I hope that by sharing my story, I can help others feel less alone in their own struggles and inspire a more realistic and supportive community around van life.

I did vanlife for 16 months and it was difficult. I was in survival mode and was hard. I’m back in my house and more settled. Trying to find my new path in my new world. If you ever pass through Kentucky stop in. Stay strong and know you deserve the best life for You♥️

Wow! It’s hard in a van and I have a stove and a bathroom! I can’t imagine an SUV. It’s honestly just more challenging right now because of the stress of taking care of and getting my mom in a nice assisted living home. I know it will be back to being easier after I know she’s well taken care of. You rock! 💜

Tracey, that guy's forgetfulness is incompetence. Incompetence is at an all-time high, no matter who you're dealing with these days. Government agencies, private organizations, public companies - it doesn't matter. I can't tell you how many people I talk with in customer service who simply don't do their jobs and/or don't know how. Furthermore, they don't care. It's so frustrating.

My opinion: We often times have these glamorous ideas how life will be and then reality is, it’s not quite the same. I know for myself, full time van life wouldn’t be my cup of tea, however part time would be my vibe for a few years. Thanks for sharing your life and honesty.

💜 burn out is real. I hope you are finding plenty of time for self-care. Being a caregiver is tremendous work. And although we know, Joy brings you joy. It does also take more effort beyond just living your own life. I hope things worked out with the low vision store. Very good organization and they’re a family run business. I know them well as I work for the State Services For The Blind. Hoping you and Joy are able to find things that meet her needs. Always remember you can also reach out to the State Services For The Blind and get connected to someone in the senior services unit that will help her as well. In fact, they have their St. Paul headquarters for state headquarters are right there next-door to the state to the low vision store And may not be readily available in the moment they will certainly work with you to find a time that works well.
I am also a Reiki master. When we can quiet ourselves to let the energy run it is amazing. I wish you well! Y

Been thru helping out my Mom. Put that on top of everyday life and it can become overwhelming. I'm no Van lifer. I spend half the year on my Harley. I guess the difference is the bike keeps me sane, so I'll keep hitting the rallies. I do prefer hotels over the tent life these days. Getting old isn't for the weak. Lol

On my 6th year, full time on the road. Of the 15 fellow full timers who I've kept in touch with these past 6 years. 12 have left the lifestyle and went home. Bangs always lead to trouble growing them out, among the women I've been with. Personally, I'm very flexible about hair style, and pretty flexible about color, as long as changes don't feel like a bait and switch from something I was crazy about, to something I'm not, with no interest in changing back if I don't like it. As a good partner, I didn't turn it into a conflict issue, but as the first guy a woman stops going to the trouble for, it is hard to feel amazing about it. If you ever choose to do that, don't ask the guy how he likes the change, unless you're willing to change back if his answer is as unenthusiastic as even "It looks nice, but I liked it more the other way." It's a cry for help, he wants it back how you had it, hahaha.
Joy's hair is great, so I can see why you feel a need to fiddle with success, to keep up.

The way I see it is it depends on where you are in life, Eamon and Beck, Max etc all started at such an early time in their lives the adventure was much different say for a 50 ish yr old. If I had started van life in my 20's your outlook on things are so different. It's not stressful because it's fun, living hand to mouth for income is not as scary than when you've created a life from said income/expenses. They all showed these picturesque back window shots and boom the lifestyle was romantizised for some. For me, i recognized the need for discernment, nothing really is "romantic" when you put real life stuff in its stead. I have no interest in selling my home, I'd just want to be part time on the road for how ever long I want time/money, then head home to my base to unload and unwind, until the next adventure. Of course I'm waiting til retirement 🤞🏽 for very long hauls.

Ive never understood why vanners, who are basically adverturers dont find a way to get a plan to meet a few times a year to just kick back somewhere for a week or two at an airbnb or short term rental just to take a breather from van life cause lets face it we are stationary too long we start wanting to get on the road again. Sadly too just knowing someone is around sometimes help, but woman seem to go it alone in ways I just dont get sometimes as if you need some space you just go to your van????? I mean, why not do something more adventurist, travel in a convoy sometimes and you are right they are not letting people have tiny homes, I too would love that option and the states have reared against it but oddly investors seem to be able to build them so you can rent a tiny space for unreal monthly rent which defeats the purpose of getting a tiny home to cut your living expenses and I agree they do not want people living in what they feel is affordable.... my heart went out to you as Im in a similar situation.❤ Sending luv hon I get it.

I know what you mean about van life burn out. I found that I can go for 3-4 months at a time with purposeful travel. I need a base to come back to and chill. . After chilling, i plan and pick a base house overseas (Air BNB) and get to explore that countries culture. There are ways of doing it economically. I hope a gong goes off and you find the ticket for your life.

I go to the gym 6 or 7 days a week (it’s my form of stress relief). My mom takes daily walks. We both try and eat healthy but love our chips and sweets. 😁💜

How are you, Miss Van Life, you know one thing, I tell everyone with the greatest of respect to this woman who makes us happy and keeps us up to date with her adventures...I want to tell you, Miss Van Life, that every time I see those two pieces of heaven that he has instead of eyes and that smile that only GOD can give, and as I said every time I see an adventure I spend time trying to thank GOD for why he made such perfect masterpieces of art and his face I believe It took GOD time to make it, I mean, it's not really a face, it's a poem by William Shakespeare, which goes like this:
"To me, fair friend, you never can be old, For as you were when first your eye I saw, Such seems your beauty still."
With all my respect, I am a musician, composer of Films and singers, Thank you for personally bringing us your adventures, I am sometimes left wondering why my family took me to the countryside and we went to the river to fish at nap time, and while all the guys were sleeping We ran away with my cousins and ran with other children and threw boulders into the water,,,my parents taught me so much about country life and that made me very happy because I was a city child...Miss Van life one of your stories that reminded me a lot of those times lived, it was when you stayed to take care of hens and chickens and slept in a small country house and then you went to collect eggs and that made me very excited because it was what my cousins and I did. In addition to feeding the chickens and we also feed the pigs, that makes me all happy That's why I loved that chapter of yours, I congratulate you Miss Van Life GOD bless you always HE is always by your side 24/7 HE is in control of everything,,,Believe GOD "HE" does not lie.
GOD always bless you and your Family,,, 👍👍👍GOD IS GOOD !!!! ALWAYS !!!

Are there anymore hours in the day when life admin and work get in the way I don't know when to work and when to play there should be more balance as people say. The doctors waiting room takes up a lot of time after work I wish I had time to go and climb some hours in the day should be mine I'm exhausted already and it's only half nine in my diary I'm always trying to make space it seems in this life everything is a race for more free time I'm trying to make the case so that I can put back on my happy face we can't take for granted time that is free walking threw parks looking up at the trees be careful not to step on a bee than coming home to a nice cup of tea😊 hang in there tracy you got this..

You’re lucky that’s all it is with Charlene. My sister has a 2001 Roadtrek Popular 190 and she has an issue with her security system. It has engaged and won’t allow her to drive it. Had to disable the horn, but no one can figure out how to disable or correct the alarm/security system or just fix it. She has spent thousands on towing it from Az to Mn and taking it to Dodge dealerships along the way. No one can fix it. It sits in our driveway in IGH Mn. No solution 😢

I just bought a Honda pilot, I'm spending the week in it at Ocean city Md.....they wanted 500 a night for a room...soooooo I'm here in my pilot for free...it's not easy....but wellllll worth it! There's alot of different challenges to sleeping in your car.More than most people think

For someone going 0-60 straight from a home to a vehicle, yes, it is tough. But if you build up skills and (to a lesser extent) equipment while still having the comfort of a home base, it is a lot easier. I spent 2 nights per week sleeping in my car in a large parking garage, while I was renting an apartment which was one floor of a McMansion, with access to the whole home. My own parking space in the garage, my own full bath, access to other baths, laundry, better gym equipment than gyms, etc. One night I'd be cooking holiday dinner for 75 at home, the next night I'd be in the car in a parking garage, hoping I didn't get "the knock". Of course, it is easy to learn, and to take chances, when you have a safety net which includes a home base like that.
By the time I switched from using hotels and AirBNBs on road trips, to sleeping in my car, I'd studied actual nomads and van lifers. Still, each new type of environment and situation, was a learning experience. Knowing how to sleep in a parking garage patrolled by security where you are quite safe but worried about security finding you, is very different from parking alone in the desert, or stealth parking in a neighborhood, or a rest area, or a truck stop, etc. Some of the skills were similar, such as window coverings chosen to not draw attention, having a routine that doesn't draw attention, a plan for how to leave if discovered, etc. Some were totally different. You build your repertoire of skills, you learn what you need and don't, you use space more efficiently over time, you develop a schedule which works best for each location.
In a Honda Pilot, if it's in nice shape, you'll be cut more breaks and draw less suspicion and attention, due to it being a vehicle with a pretty upscale and non-threatening demographic assumed for its owner. It's also way less likely to be lived in, than even a more expensive van with the telltale roof fan, "overlanding" equipment, and so forth. To be hassled even less, a Honda lover could get a brand new Acura. ;-)
I get hassled very little in a Prius. People not in the know simply never suspect it being a car camping vehicle. People in the know, are still swamped by 500 of them not being used that way, for each one which is. Unlike big, fancy vans, it's not worth it for them to take a closer look, due to the very low probability of it being anything more than a regular car in regular use.

Eamon & Bec were the first vanlifers I started watching yrs ago. Their baby is so beautiful! I totally get the burnout. I think it would be so stressful trying to find a spot where you can park every night! Great to see Joy! I love tiny homes too! So hard to find a place to put them though. A guy just got in trouble where I live because he had a tiny house & a RV on his property that he let rent out space. He lived in the main house. Nobody could see the tiny house or RV from the road but somebody complained so the tiny house & RV had to go & he got in trouble. Pottery classes with your daughter sounds like fun!
