Yes, at least until Midjourney learns how to write text. Ideogram's main problem is that there is currently no way to make your results private.

Don’t steer clear, dive it! It’s exhilarating and a great way to unlock your own inner artist. It’s progress that will be eventually so mainstream that you’ll wish you had started sooner. It’s no different than our use of modern technology when the automobile was invented or machine automation in factories, it was seen as contributing to making life more efficient and productive. Life will continue to move forward in new ways. I’ve owned restaurants in my life and I had someone tell me our town didn’t need a new restaurant because we already had a few, but I explained to them that it isn’t a bad thing, it creates a great way to get people out more because they are more options, competition can be a good thing as it encourages the other businesses to do better and stay on top of their game!

I've had quite different experiences with AI... After months of testing, I did the last test... I put 5 different generated images and one of my own graphic in the same niche. And you know what? I only sell my own image, while five generated images just sit there and attract zero attention. I really don't know why!
But I also have to say that I really enjoyed drawing my own image while I missed out on all the fun with the AI generated images. Then I thought, wait a minute - if I wanted to communicate with the machine by writing the text, I'd become a programmer! So I'm back to my old ways, having fun and drawing, the numbers are fine, and the life is good again. Sorry for the longer text, I just had to write my own experiences! Oh, and I don't hate anyone. I'm happy with my choice! 😁

Your experience doesn’t prove that human drawn designs do better than AI designs. Perhaps your skill as an artist is a lot higher than your skill at crafting a compelling prompt for the AI. There is significant skill in communicating what you want from MidJourney - and that gives you a starting point - if you just upload that directly to a T-Shirt or Mug, you haven’t done all the work. You still need to throw it in Canva and add some finishing touches to it. So - for YOU - human designed is better than AI - but for the next guy, it might be the opposite - especially if they take the time to learn how to create effective prompts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

All current AI art looks the same fundamentally once you know what quirks to look for (poor teeth, toes, finger generation, too smooth skin textures, etc.), and a lot of people are realizing this. Human generated art will always have a higher appeal due to this, imo. AI art is like shooting for the lowest common. Great human art will just increase in value as a result.

OH YEA ? , well ask yourself, if u wanted a picture recreated of lets say....ur family, a painter and a Ai artist can give u for sure the same exact results....who would u pick? u and everyone would pick the painter, because the idea of a ur family painted in ink or paint medium , and trough the perspective of someone else , exites u and humanity more than anything generative. pssst! thats why even tho photogaphy has existed since forever ago, painters and artists are still selling stuff . would u prefer a photo or a painting, u would prefer a painting. so , thats why hes doing better , dont matter how godly the prompts are. ppl will always value such art over generative stuff such as photos and AI images@@Tenly2009

@@yeyeande It lacks soul. The human hand. I don't doubt that there will someday be brilliant artists that take it to the next level, do something with it that could only be created with it. But for the rank and file person using it, it's a bit boring and trite. I can identify other artists hands in it while seeing nothing of the person who claims it. More art from untalented people that will soon clutter the landfill.

Hi, Thanks for putting out great content, I have learned a lot from your videos,
    I have a quick question.
I have a quick question - as a new shop, should I use Printify Or direct integration with the print provider?
I am just not able to figure out this that - For example, I see Awkward Styles is available as a direct integration to Shopify and also as a provider from Printify.
I do see there is a difference between the costs when going directly with Awkward Styles vs Printify, but Printify integrates with loads of other providers.
When just starting out, what is best for me ? Choose Printify and select Awkward Styles as the provider ? Or directly integrate with Awkward Styles ?

It was not a prestigious art contest at all - just a local art fair, and the “digital art” division of the fair, at that. And the guy who won the contest wasn’t doing AI art for the greater good of anybody but himself - he owns a tabletop gaming company, and wanted to save money by generating his own art rather than commissioning artists. Hence his copyright lawsuit.

Hi Sarah, this is a follow up to a question I asked a few videos back - about Printful shipping from foreign countries
I added coffee mugs with color inside specifically because it says they ship from both Canada and the USA. But as I placed my first test order, I found out that only some colors are available in each country - and the one I picked for delivery to Canada only ships from the USA 🤦🏻‍♂️
But shouldn’t they (Printful) provide that information to me so I can access least put an advisory on my product listing as to which colors can be produced inside Canada? Or is this information available somewhere and I just haven’t found it? As an example, the 11oz mug with black inside ships from Canada but the 15oz does not - so customs and brokerage fees could add another $15 to the price of the mug - and I can’t think of a single person in Canada that wouldn’t rather just pick a different color than pay an extra $15 for no reason. Argh. Very frustrating. I’ve emailed them but not optimistic that they’ll help.

Thanks Sara for your work! My 2 cents: I have used AI to generate images for print on demand services. It is extremely rare to have an AI photo give me what I want without significant changes that need to be made. I always begin with a “finished” image in my mind before I even start. It will then often take 10 or 12 times of revising descriptions before I can get a usable image. Even with the exact same description, the results can vary a lot and are never duplicated. I then photo shop the resulting “good” image sometimes changing colors, shapes, cloning certain areas to delete objects, or even paste in new ones. The result after a few hours of work is an image close to what I envisioned in my mind when my “creativity” started. Exactly where is the creativity part that is AI’s? It sounds like my words and the image I envisioned are "human" creativity. Many times I cannot get an acceptable image after dozens of tries and I give up on the idea altogether. Post AI efforts are copyrightable, but not the AI image I had to revise because the machine is not human? Neither is my artist drawing tablet human, but I told it what to do, and if it didn’t come out to my liking I change it. How about my original thought? My own designs and images I have made without AI, were discerned by me looking at images or real things over my lifetime giving me a memory library of experience to draw from. This includes say a great photo my aunt took in Hawaii twenty years ago. I have never been to Hawaii, so I have to envision what the beach looks like based upon her picture, and thousands of others I have seen. It is protected by copyright to her, so I can’t “copy” it lest I be a criminal. I can draw something close and put it on a t-shirt though. It is “changed” but I didn’t ask her permission or pay her money. AI does the same thing, only the AI is a tad faster than me on my tablet tracing a beach picture. Although AI has never experienced lying on a tropical beach, it is great at drawing one with an upside down palm tree, or a fish with four eyes. I could copy that one, but the beach part might be copyrighted, hopefully not the tree? I’ve never seen an upside down palm tree, so it might be o.k. - if it was my idea. The fish might be questionable. Keep up the great work! ❤

    • @chrish4544
      @chrish4544 8 місяців тому +3

You do realise how AI works? It takes images it finds from around the internet and puts them together to match the prompt you have given it - it doesn't matter if any of those images are copyrighted, if it fits it sits. Which means yes your upside down tree and the 3 eyed fish it will have got from somewhere. You are doing the same when you photoshop, you will have added images you found elsewhere, used colour palettes from somewhere, etc so unless you change the whole image enough from the base image you took from AI then no you cant copyright it. And even then if the owner of any of the elements you took recognizes it then you could be in trouble.
AI cannot draw things for itself, when you ask it to draw a circle it wont draw anything, it finds an image of a circle instead and shows you that - unlike a 'tablet drawing human' who can use a stylus/pencil to draw the objects from scratch on the tablet, no different from drawing with a pencil onto paper. That's the difference regardless where the artist got their inspiration from.
There are no AI artists only AI programmers.

Is shipping free or calculated afterwards to give you a less than 5% profit or even loss

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  7 місяців тому

Customers pay the cost of shipping as a separate charge, so it is irrelevant to include it in the profit calculation, since it is negated by them 🙏

As an artist I'm trying my best to not just hate on the technology. I will probably start using it so I can refine my arguments, but...
AI art generators are not like other AI tools. Other tools, like Photoshop, you still have most control over, and the tools are generally quicker, more efficient, ways to edit something than previously done. AI might make your brush stroke smoother, but before this it wouldn't exactly draw the lines for you. That's exactly what generators like Midjourney do.
As an artist, I might use it to bump up the volume I can output, but a large part of it all is my pride. When I get compliments on my work, I know it's because of the hard work and skill of everything I CREATED, I studied, the detail I paid attention to, the knowledge and experience I have to aspects of composition, etc. I can't imagine taking any pride in it if an AI is generating the images. Or, at least, even if I limited my use of it, those AI generated parts wouldn't make me a better artist or person.
I might could argue the tech could also be "stealing jobs from artists, but I'm not even sure that's all that true. Just because you use AI artwork, doesn't mean you would've hired an artist otherwise.
I dunno. Overall I just feel an overall sadness that it's a thing greeted with such excitement and open arms, not with caution and respect.

I think that the new tool on Midjourney that allows you to select and edit individual parts of an image can easily be argued to be personal input by an artist's mind and sensibility as it can be used to develop an individual aesthetic. I think the court will be eventually come to see that, especially if they consult with art historians.

    • @fungiai

Did the artist walk into an already created image, then begin to edit it? Or did the artist begin to edit it when they penned the original prompt? My answer is, they earned the copyright to the image created the moment they gave their physical and mental input. Because without human input, an image isn't generated. Maybe, instead of trying to copyright images, artist will resort to copyrighting prompts.

Can you edit these designs like you do in kittle? Meaning are they vectors files or do you get what you get and that's all? Also I've heard on kittle that it is okay to sell their designs commercially and on t-shirts as long as you alter a few things in the photo such as a color or text. So they make most of theirs as vectors so you can alter everything

Canva is my favorite. I could probably use Kittl, but Canva is just so create. You can also use Canva's designs too for clothing. There was drama where some influencers spread false information stating that you couldn't. Canva clarified that yes, you could, and that information that you couldn't, was false. But like Kittl, you do have to make changes, such as changing colors or combining 2+ elements together, you can't just take one of their pictures and sell it as-is! Haha.

@@Ma0riboi there is a court-case against Midjourney and a couple of others. The artists are suing over lost revenue (one of the arguments). It doesn't look good for the artists because one of the big claims is "you don't have permission to learn from my art" (which is all AI is really doing). In reality all of us humans/artists/makers learned from those who have gone before us. No one, and i mean no one, learns in a vacuum. **Also, and this is important, an artist cannot copyright a "style". AI at the beginning was spitting out an occasional exact copy of an artist's work, but it has learned since then, and it rarely happens now.

I'm a horror artist who uses my own photos and drawings in combination with Wombo and Photoshop. Wombo is the only AI I've found that is easy to use for horror art as it doesn't strike me for using words like "horror" or "bloody" in my prompts. Other AI apps like Photoshop Beta, which uses Firefly, is like walking on eggshells trying to craft a good spooky prompt without getting a strike or warning. I tried Midjourney and hated it. I don't like using Discord as I find it confusing. Maybe it's because I'm old? hahaa! I just don't find the UI very easy to navigate over there. Wombo is very easy to use and definitely gives me more freedom in my prompts...tailoring them to fit my original art that I use as base images.

Now, a portion of the art there has no protection. It might not be a high percentage but if I was willing to steal art when it was a 100% chance I was breaking the law, I'm going to be more willing when it's only say 70% likely I am and 30l% likely to be stealing copyright

This is why I manipulate and collage my Ai images. That way, if my images are recorded on the open-source platform, Ai cannot match them with your prompt query and the artist will not be able to match their name in any of your open-sourced image generations. Also, I stay away from prompting artists' names who are still alive for this very reason until the legal landscape has been established. Right now Ai is under so much scrutiny and biases that it is becoming evident we must work around this bullshit.
Also, this is why it is crucial to have a private paid account where your prompts are hidden from open-source Ai, especially if you're looking to make money off your Ai artwork.
