I’ve been playing the piano for nearly more than 14 years. I cannot explain how much I have benefitted from this. I started when I was 12 years old. Playing the piano has helped me get through tough times. My little dog Duke and the piano helped me manage at times when I was deppressed. You can’t put into words the sense of achieve one can get by learning to simply play a song. It’s a very nice thing. No need of becoming a great composer or a master pianist. But learn to play songs that you like . It feels so good and very relaxing. It’s also a good way to spend your time rather than idling carried away by the stupid advertising in this world. For children I recommend teaching them from their early childhood, don’t expect them to play pieces or songs at that age. Just being able to play a small melody helps improve their brain functioning which will have lifelong positive effects.
I have a bit of a problem with motivating myself while learning an instrument. Sometimes I get really unmotivated/or lazy even though deep down I really want to learn it :(
Sometimes you will hate the instrument and never wanna touch it but if you stick with it will be rewarding. Been playing guitar for about 3 years seriously and there's times I hate the thing but I am grateful for sticking with it.
After 10 years of playing Piano, for sure I'm not dumb. If you are already dumb, it will make u a little bit smarter. But it can't change genetics lmao
Playing keyboard since 3 years now. I know now more precisely why I'm dumb. It's also important to know why you're dumb. The more I learn the more I have to learn. Downward spiral predestined.
How often do you learn a song by looking at sheet music? Also, flute just might night be much of a challenge for your brain anymore. Maybe try learning piano or guitar and see how much of an impact that has on your memory.
Definitely, I've started playing piano aswell 8 months ago and I really noticed forgetting less things than usual, I used to be kind of a forgetful guy but I felt great improvements in a year just playing.
I’ve played guitar for what will be almost 6 years in January, and I’ve definitely contemplated learning more instruments, which makes me wonder if learning multiple instruments will strengthen your brain even more because of the way you play certain instruments, and being able to use different parts of your body to play different instruments.
Before I started playing music, I wasn't very smart and didn't think criticality of the world, my problem solving skills sucked, I wasn't able to express myself, I never smiled, etc After playing music I now can smile, express myself, and everyone comes to me for help at work now and tells me how smart I am. It completely changed my life.
I began playing 🎸 at 38 I’m 40 YO now and I plan to continue playing in order to avoid cognitive decline plus I’m getting better and I enjoy it so much. It’s never too late to learn.
I have been playing music for most my life. Majored in music in college, and have ran a band for over 10 years... I forget to grab something at the grocery store everytime I'm there... Don't think that's as accurate as you want to think
I play piano for more than 10 years, I have an IQ score above average... and I can say with confidence that I don't have good memory and I take a lot of time learning something new :) The one thing that I notice is playing an instrument makes you take better decisions with another people, your motor skill is way higher than other people and u become more practical in your daily routine!
I don´t think it makes you a genius. It may help you with focusing on a task. But a genius - for me - is someone who very easily understands a lot of different topics, no matter how far apart they may seem (like microbiology, economics, statistics, thermodynamics etc.) and I don´t think playing an instrument can help with that. But playing an instrument may help you with clearing your mind from unnecessary stuff and "being in the moment", which is a important state to be in if you want to learn something knew too
If a human dwell in music so much, there will be development i think in the brain. As a song writer myself, activites on the brain are much more complex in daily routine. Rather than doing repetitive routine stuff I'd rather dwell in colors of sound and hyperbolic lyrics, but to arrange daily must have develop something to the brain. The same goes for mathematicians or people who like solves math problem daily, or observant of social problem who observes ,analyze, and tries to bring solution to that matter on routine.
I've played guitar since I was like 9. I can play almost any instrument if I apply myself. I compose too and can learn most songs by ear. Easier if I really like the tune. When I compose I'm tuning into some special place. I can't explain how but it's a lot like channeling. You just tune in to the universal station/vibration.
I have been playing the guitar dor 10 years now and I can't say I am smarter but I do enjoy playing it definitely makes me feel happy when I Play something exciting.
I'm 24 years Old I study and play about 7 different instruments. 4 of them are currently in my posession. I play guitar, Bass, a little bit of Tenor Saxophone even though I'm still learning, Trumpet, Harmonica, and Double Bass. I can honestly say from experience playing an instrument is only helpful with identifying chords and how they relate to music the rest is 90% of either ear or visual training. 5% is probably the exercises that come with it getting your body use to playing the instrument. I've been playing instruments since I was 5 I had ok grades from kindergarten to high school I dropped out of high school in 2014 with a 2.8 GPA as a junior. I didn't get my real GED until I was 23 last year but math was always a kick in the butt until I sat down and learned it. However being a musician requires for you to think but it doesn't mean your smart enough to improve college grades without learning how college works or even high school.
This isn't the place for innuendos, only innocent uses gather here. Go back to etika if you want to not get killed. Also that joke doesn't apply it's no nut november.
Damn, I gave up early when learning various instruments because it was 'too hard.' I'll try to suck it up and dust off my guitar, might be easier than being stupid for the rest of my life.
It is true if you incorporate it in your study hours, that could build the context which can improve your cognitive abilities. Honestly, ive never tried it, i suck at playing instrument so I played apex😆😆😆
I can't read notes but I can somewhat play guitar... I kinda want to get a teacher, learning online or from a book isn't easy for me... I have been playing less and less and remember less and less... maybe I should start again learning the keyboard or something
I’m sick of playing the violin, I’m always so busy. I have loads of homework, exams and after school activities. It’s so hard to keep practicing it. It’s brings me so much stress with it to. I’m pretty sure I’ll quit.
I play the violin as well and I felt exactly the same as you when I first started, I couldn't bring myself to practice and always made up excuses ( Too busy, I have too much school work...) I couldn't overcome the mental block and the fear of not playing as well as I want because I'm such a perfectionist. The violin is a particularly difficult instrument that requires a lot of consistent practice, if any small part of you enjoys playing it, please consider putting off 20 minutes every day in your busy schedule for practice because I can assure you you will look back in a few years and thank yourself for it. I urge you however not to force it, you can try a different instrument but don't quit because you don't have time for it. I recommend you watch twosetviolin videos for inspiration and to follow hilary hahn on Instagram for motivation to practise. You can do this! I believe in you and I hope along the process you get to discover the beauty of this wonderful instrument. If it ever gets too hard, remember why you started. Happy practising!
What about the brains of drummers? You know, the guys who hang around musicians and beat on things after their shelter provider/girlfriend drives them to the gig?
I've been playing violin and a few other instruments for like 16 years. im not that smart but im smarter and have a much higher IQ than my bros that didn't do music in their early ages. also this is the same with the Ted talk hahah
Don't you guys hate it when you're playing your heart out and someone interrupts you and starts to talk to you as if you weren't busy? :'0
Flightless Bird agree. Like i’m focused on playing and practicing an instrument then my mom suddenly interrupt
Not really.
@@kaylagaye3736 I feel you bro! At least I had this conversation with my parents to not interrupt me when i'm practicing and they respect that now! 🙏
It makes me think they're too dumb to comprehend what they're hearing

That's awesome. 20 years of guitar playing is quite impressive!
