So true! This plot twist made this game my nr.1 favorite game. Imagine my joy when remake was announced. Sad part is as we all know, there were some issues with its development and we still don't know much about it. I often think that maybe it would be for the best to not release this remake as I am worried it may end up being really bad in the end...

My favourite moment in Pathfinder wotr was the final fight of act 1.
The first time I played that part I was really worried how I would be able to defeat Minahgo on top of the grey garrison, as I got there by the skin of my teeth. And then you get your fist mythic level, a ludicrus buff, the mythic theme starts playing and Minahgo starts panicking. I never experienced such a great power fantasy in any game before, and the phrase "You look at her and feel like a titan gazing down at an ant" has been burned into my mind ever since.

-Nier automata : the credits. Weird choice for anyone who hasn't played the game to this point I suppose, otherwise you know why.
-Mass effect 3 the whole krogan mission : learning the past of the race, witnessing a kaiju battle between a reaper and the mother of all thresher maws while trying not to get stomped, seeing the end of Modin's arc... and all that with the 1st game's best companion : Wrex.
-Kotor 1 : the big plot twist, and to a lesser extent the same in Jade empire
-Divinity 2 (the dragon knight one) : whenever I can taunt a certain boss with "Maxos!" and jumping from cliffs to turn into a dragon mid-fall
-the Mr Freeze fight in Arkham city : it makes you feel smart in a game mostly about punching people

Yeah, man, the Krogan mission in ME3 is genuinely phenomenal. The Rannoch mission is damn near as good, too, especially if you can save both the Quarians and the Geth. Staring down the Reaper with the laser target designator, Legion's sacrifice, trash talking the dying Reaper, all great shit.

I love the premise of this video! Thanks for sharing! Here are some of mine:
    1. The last level of *Halo 3* when you're in the warthog, the floor is falling down, and you and all your friends have to GTFO. One of my favorite campaign moments ever.
    2. When the game asks you to "wait for Shadow" in *Final Fantasy 6.* I thought that was really clever. I also really loved the moment when Sabin joins back up post-apocalypse. Everyone else makes you do a side quest, but Sabin's the only real one who just joins up with you just because you asked.
    3. The *Mass Effect 2* intro was killer
    4. Arthur's conversation with sister Calderon in *RDR2* is the best acted scene in video game history, and I loved that moment.

    - Meeting the Master in Fallout 1
    - Loghain's betrayal in DA: Origins
    - The fall of Haven in DA: Inquisition and the journey to The Keep
    - First meeting a Reaper and the conversation with it in Mass Effect 1
    - TES IV: Oblivion: The entire Dark Brotherhood questline, leading to The Purification; the butterfly opening to the Shivering Isles DLC
    - The Fallout 3 tutorial, ending with the Vault door opening; plus the "Oasis" sidequest and blowing up Megaton.
    - Fallout 4: The Prydwen's arrival in The Commonwealth; and arriving in Far Harbor - that entire DLC is one of my favourites ever
    - Cyberpunk 2077's corpo opening
    - The opening to Pillars of Eternity 1 is very simple, but it resonates a lot with me for some reason. It's incredibly... cozy. It helps that I really like Eora.
But I've been playing a lot of Starfield lately, and it has a bunch for me, besides the best one that one you've mentioned (spoilers below):
    - I really liked The Hunter character, his variations and his interactions with the player. I especially liked his drawings that he did as The Pilgrim, with his investigation on the Artifacts and most notably the drawings of the people and societies he influenced across the multiverse. It's some good worldbuilding that isn't shown directly to the player, but is there for those that look for it.
    - The main quest's final "boss fight" where you're jumping across the multiverse fighting both The Hunter and The Emissary (I'm not sure if the fight is the same if you side with one of them), sometimes with gravity shifting. This is easily my favourite Bethesda boss fight ever.
    - The "Eye of the Storm" Crimson Fleet quest is set in a great location, with the electromagnetic storm and the adrift ship - plus once you get the treasure and you have to escape an exploding ship.

For me, my favourite moment from BG3 was the 'Devil' Song, its was surprising, funny, and completely nuts. In a game of many highlights, its funny that is what I remember the most. Though i have to give my 'topical favourite moment' to Bungie, for it's final Destiny mission and the chill moments after. A perfect way to end the ten year journey.

One of my favorite moments dates back to 1997, Fallout 1. I had managed to sneak down into the lowest levels of the Mariposa military base without getting seen. It hadn't been easy, took a lot of patience and felt like a real achievement. Then, out of nothing, the game tells me I get 1000 xp for sneaking into this base without getting seen. The context of this: to me, authentic roleplaying means to avoid fighting if you can, and to this day I hate it that you mostly get xp for, well, fighting, and nothing for what any reasonable human being would do, ie. avoid fighting if it can be done without compromising your higher goal. Fallout was the first game to acknowledge this and also reward a playstyle that has been my favorite from the start, and for a long time it remained the only one.

    • @jekw23
      @jekw23 8 днів тому

I seem to remember Deus Ex gave more rewards for stealth and finding new areas as opposed to blasting your way through
I did a Human Revolution run with no kills, no alarms raised and another stealth achievement on the hardest difficulty. One of my proudest moments.

    • @Asankeket
      @Asankeket 7 днів тому

@@jekw23 DX:HR rewarded stealth runs with xp and achievements (and yes, I know it feels to get those achievements on the highest difficulty, since I did the same), but it's from 2011, 14 years after Fallout, and the original Deux Ex from 1999 did not. It rewarded exploration, but not stealth.

I had the same reaction to the heatleeches. As soon as it was revealed I immediately thought of every moment you arrive at a space port and hear the engineers complaining about the leeches, even from the very beginning of the game. Excellent foreshadowing. It's definitely a big "oh no, they're everywhere!" realization

My favorite moment in Wrath of the Righteous is the conversation with Areelu Vorlesh at the end of Act 3 where... and forgive any spoilers here...
Areelu takes the Magical 2×4 of Subtle Thematic Emphasis and carefully shoves it through your computer screen and smacks you across the face!
Never have I seen a game so masterfully tell you, the player:
"This is what this game, this story, is all about."
It is delivered perfectly, and timed in just the way to make every decision you've made, and every decision you're going to make, suddenly have multiple layers of meaning.
That conversation refrained the entire game & I absolutely love it!

  • @happyninja42
    @happyninja42 8 днів тому +1

A classic example of "whoa" moments for me in gaming, is in the original Homeworld game. Everything in the first 3 missions just sold me on that concept, to the point where I kind of consider that all one sequence. From the beautiful flyby of the Mothership, with Adagio with Strings playing in the background, to the whole concept of these people making this ship in the hopes of staving off extinction, to it being controlled by a woman who has fused her nervous system with the ship, making it a living vehicle (Giving the whole term Mothership more meaning, considering she's carrying hundreds of thousands of her people inside her mechanical womb, for colonization). To the first jump test, and the dread of seeing the Mothership coming into the foreground when the enemy POV approaches, to the shot when you re-emerge over your world, to see the northern icecap (the only habitable zone left) completely burning). The shock and disbelief in Karen S'jet's voice when she reports the devastation. It just hit me to my core. It was one of those times where I had a genuine emotional reaction to a video game, when I saw that they had glassed our planet's population, and now we were all that was left. That scene has stayed with me for 20+ years. Very powerful.

To be honest my favorite part of WOTR was the ending quest for the Romance of Arueshalae. It was the first time I've ever consider something like a romance in games, and was expecting a sort of more "oh she's the succubus you have lots of 'cheap body-to-body interaction'" type of quest, but in the end, I've accompanied a really complex, well written and interesting character, struggling with her past into the path of, until now, unheard of redemption. And I realize: I care about her and this makes me happy. I was blown away

Two moments I loved, from Wrath of the Righteous and Baldur's Gate 3 are when you play the Azata path, and go into the demon city slave market. That moment when you have the choice to unleash the power of the Azata (the beings of freedom and liberation) in a demonic slave market, was just awesome. Genuinely tearjerking for me. Between the way the music plays in that triumphant register, as you draw down the power into that den of evil, and all the slaves break free, the various demons either die, or are debuffed as a power directly opposed to them begins to take dominance, while your character stands there, arms up, weaving the power around them before engaging combat like "Alright bitches!! Time for some payback!" That was just freaking awesome to me.
A similar scene in BG 3 for me was towards the end of Act 2, when you are dealing with the Nightsong. All the dramatic, ominous buildup as you descend into the depths of the god of secrets, with Shadowheart constantly spouting her religious fervor, while you KNOW something really bad is building. But then, when she turns away from the dark, and tosses away the spear, and the Nightsong regains her power, and flies over the Shadowlands, purging the corruption with light. Just....damn. I'm a sucker for story elements where the theme is the cleansing of corruption and decay, but the sequence of her flying over on a beacon of light, while the soundtrack plays those triumphant horns, signaling the restoration of something beautiful, while the various NPCs look up at her passing, with renewed hope and determination. Just.....hell yes. That's the kind of shit that makes me love gaming.

That Wrath of the Righteous moment is one for me as well, especially since I just replayed it myself a couple of days ago. There are some other grand moments there as well such as the Angel mythic paths final encounter with Deskari or Azata getting angry at the Fleshmarkets.
As a boring person, the next game that came to my mind was Dragon Age 2 with the final discussion with Arishok being an easy one, but the destruction of the Chantry is such a grand moment for me. Although the thing that always sticks to my mind is when playing the final fight with Meredith for the first time and suddenly realizing the smaller slave statues had started to move.
Do not know how they specify the genre, but in Horizon Zero Dawn when Aloy learns what Zero Dawn actually was. Or when she shouts at the Nora to stop bowing at her.
And finally my list would never be complete without the Mass Effect Trilogy. While there are so many epic moments there, for me that final culmination of assaulting Earth just keeps coming back to me. "There is no Shepard without Vakarian", the farewell to Liara, Shepard forcing themselves to the beam, "You did good, child. I'm proud of you." Just so many choices to choose from there.

    - Trails in the Sky First Chapter - The ending.
    - Trails in the Sky 3rd Chapter - Kevin's backstory
Honestly all five could be from the Trails franchise so I'll leave it there. That series just had so many character moments and interactions both dramatic and mundane that I loved.
    - Warcraft 3 - The ending of the human campaign and its transition to the start of the undead campaign.

I have two moments that come to mind. Both are similar, and both had me picking my jaw off the floor, staring at the screen for a good couple of minutes after, thinking about how masterfully crafted the moment was, how much work went into it and how unique games are as an artistic medium.
First one was in Witcher 3, Priscilla's performance of the song Wolven Storm. It just hit right, I was incredibly immersed in the moment.
Second one was just now, in cyberpunk's 2077 phantom liberty dlc. The party at the top of the skyscraper... There's a song accompanied by holographic performance with a dancer... I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Personally, not in particular order my top 5 moments on top of my head would be
    - wrath of the righteous choosing your mythic path in the end of the second act
    - fighting Ifrit then acquiring it in ff8 (one of my favourite childhood moments)
    - going out of the dungeon in oblivion for the first time to be in the middle of the map to choose wherever to go.
-ff12 beating Exodus for the first time ( for some reason this esper in particular I struggled with when I played the game the first time, maybe I was too low level)
    - winning our first bastion in Revelation Online (MMO) in an epic last minute fight between 3 alliances.

Many favorite moments over the years. But one more recently: breaking the last seal in The Last Spell.
From the map that is different from all the others to the tough as nails boss that took quite a few tries to beat, and the cutscene that followed..
Felt like a great conclusion to a long, grueling, nail-biting journey to survive the horrors of the night.
    10/10.

5:16 I still can't believe how many people who absolutely adores Baldur's Gate 3 *never touched & still haven't played Divinity: Original Sin 2.* The experiences in gameplay & story are so nearly identical but D:OS2 runs so much more remarkably smooth on so many systems (including ones that can barely handle BG3, like the Steam Deck) it still just boggles the mind outright; even after playing BG3, D:OS2 doesn't feel like a "downgrade" in any way & it often costs 1/5th the price, plus BG3 is so much less challenging, it's almost a perfect precursor to D:OS2 for anyone who finished BG3. If you loved BG3, you'll very likely adore D:OS2, make no mistake. 🤷🤷‍♂🤷‍♀🤷‍♀

I’m not that surprised. BG3 is more accessible, dare I say “flashy”, and it is based in Dungeons and Dragons which already has a huge fandom and familiarity. I can see a lot of people not being into DOS2 because they don’t wanna learn a new system, or because it doesn’t have cutscenes.
I agree that they are missing out, though.

@@FernandoIncetta To be clear, DOS2 is also inescapably based in D&D & even a remarkably similar rule set, a near-identical UI (rather than a new system), etc.; I'm not sure many people who loved BG3 enough to play through it wouldn't love DOS2 but never noticed it years ago in the first place, notably for how much vastly smoother it runs by comparison & the difficulty difference.

I have experienced 3 of 5 moments and they were great moments, WotR, BG3, and Starfield. I really enjoyed BG3's in particular. I'm a huge save scummer, as I usually only play a game once and thus try to get the best ending the first time, but BG3's Dark Urge moment with Alfria was so unexpected and earned that I decided to roll with it. This moment also played into the my roleplay since I was redemption seeking Durge Bard that kept and used her, technically her teacher's, lute for the rest of game as a reminder of what happens when he doesn't fight his urges. I slightly regretted committing to killing her when in Act 3 I didn't get the achievement of saving all the tieflings.

    Related to achievement:
    - Finishing Chapter 7 in Celeste. I've done much harder things in the base and modded game that took longer to learn and generated more frustration, but this was the best experience. Counting down to the summit represents both the crux of the story of Madeleine overcoming her self-doubt to achieve her goal and the fruition of everything you've learned about playing the game.
    - The final boss with Extreme Measures 4 active in Hades. An incredible way to add difficulty to a fight, going into the final phase where the screen is mostly dark and the music starts going crazy and then desperately finishing off the boss for the first time was absolutely exhilirating.
    Related to story:
    - The lead up to the final boss of Shadowbringers (5.0) in Final Fantasy XIV. This is a game that has mastered big narrative moments, especially those where your character steps up to be the hero (I could name at least 4 or 5 that might deserve a place on a list like this), but nothing quite tops this one. You and your friends are absolutely beaten down by a seemingly unassailable villain, you pass out, and then you get a huge combination the story tying together and a twofold 'power of friendship' moment, accompanied by the best timed music drop I've ever heard in a game, to enable you to get back up and face him.
    Related to experience/spectacle:
    - The first time me and my friends set sail in Valheim. This game has so much atmosphere, especially when exploring for the first time, and me and two friends played it together from the start. We'd cobbled together the materials to build a raft, and then set sail not knowing what to expect. The sailing music in Valheim is one of my favourite pieces of ambient music in a game, and this, the sense of discovery, and sharing it with my friends was just beautiful.
    - The first time leaving Midgar in Final Fantasy VII. I was a kid and I didn't really know what to expect from a game like this. After playing quite a substantial chunk of the game all contained within one city, to suddenly be released into the world took my breath away upon realising the scope of the adventure I was on.
Honourable mentions to the same moment you highlight from WotR (I'm not very experienced with the game, and still in the later stages of act 3, but ascending to become and Angel was brilliantly executed) and Nightsong from BG3. And then a favourite moment of absurdity that I'll always remember: the guy with the Scrolls of Icarian Flight falling out of the sky in front of you in Morrowind!

It's really simple, but jumping through the spider web on the ground floor of the deku tree dungeon in Ocarina of Time still stands out to me.
It's the first dungeon in the game and it happens right after the tutorial that breaks down the controls. You enter on the ground floor and the first thing you do is walk over the spider web and start climbing into different rooms, which are all self-contained. Eventually you get to the top of the tree and can't climb any higher. That's when it clicks that you can use your momentum from jumping from the top of the dungeon to break through the webbing on the ground floor to get to the second half of the dungeon below the tree's roots. The one movement connects the whole dungeon together.
The selling point of the N64 is that it could render 3D worlds and, as somebody who had been playing on a Sega Genesis before, this was a big deal to me. That puzzle was the thing that really let it sink in.

Yeah, that Dark Urge moment... I'm glad / hate / love that I fell for the troll trap laid pre-launch by Larian recommending not playing as Durge for the first run, and still thought my dream came true, that something I did different in the early game actually made A-a decide to join my party instead of following her incredibly sweet storyline with L-a, that I had already seen to (almost, sans epilogue) completion, on the previous run. Absolutely a most memorable moment, one of my favorite worst heartbreaking moments in gaming, second only to a similar moment on the Lich mythic path in Wrath of the Righteous, where I accidentally laid the trap for myself by taking the opportunity to romance the obviously irredeemably evil alternative companion. Two of my most beloved characters in gaming, that the narrative of my favorite games unexpectedly used with shocking affect.

I'm surprised that yours are all from very recent games. Mine were mostly a bit older but still some recent ones.
    1) First ever "top" moment for me was as a kid playing Ocarina of Time. Getting to Ganondorf and reflecting light arrows off of the mirror shield made me have my first ever moment in gaming where I felt like I had mastered the mechanics of a game, even if it was in hindsight easy and intended.
    2) In World of Warcraft, killing Ragnaros for the first time while being only 1 of 2 people alive. Me, the tank, and a single healer finished the last 6% of the boss. Will never forget the people in VOIP cheering us on and the shouting that followed when we killed it.
    3) Pretty much the entirety of Elden Ring, but if I had to pick a moment, it was fighting Radahn for the first time.
    4) The "secret" ending with Johnny in Cyberpunk 2077. I don't think any other RPG has had an ending where you could flex so hard with how OP your build was at the endgame.
    5) BG3 when Raphael comes back home. His boss fight, looking at his HP bar and seeing 666, and his theme where he sings his own song was such a surprise and solidified the game as one of the best ever for me.
