Turns and Approaches
Today, Pablo and I teamed up with Ben Netterfield, our Equestrian Performance and Mindset Coach ‪@DaretoCoachingEquestrian-AUS‬ to work on refining our turns and approaches to fences.
Our main goal was to achieve a quality canter with consistent pace through turns, maintain straightness on approach and landing, and enhance suppleness and responsiveness over a series of fences.
We focused on riding sweeping, bending, square, and rollback turns to enhance rideability, straightness, and rhythm.
We spent time understanding how to manage drift in the turns. It all came down to setting up the turn three to four strides before the turn, and using my outside rein to close the door, making Pablo sit taller and preventing his shoulders from drifting out.
The difference in Pablo's rhythm and jump was mind-blowing when I rode a good turn and line.
