8 months ago I watched your video on how to ride the canter, trying not to be scared thinking about my first canter and now I'm watching this after my first jumps (50cm) and I'm so proud ! Your videos always help me out
I really needed this! Also I saw when Tucker took a small step and moved you didn’t pull on the rains or anything like a lot of riders I have seen do. You just let him be. I love that you did that and Ik it’s small and not very important but so many people mistreat their horses and some pull very harshly when they move and you didn’t do it!
i just came from a lesson, and ive just recently started jumping in the past few months. this is super helpful! thanks for making this video :D i’ve definitely had (more than a few) awkward jumps thus far lol
I do need to mention, in cross rails while we may see the lowest point and think horses do as well, horses see the jump as a straight line across. So really they’re seeing the jump at a good foot higher than we may think - and you can see it when watching a horse jump a cross rail. But this also makes them good beginner jumps! Also when tucker took a little small step, a lot of people would of just yanked the reins but you didn’t, it’s like a breath of fresh air ❤
This was really helpful! I've actually been riding for over 11 years, but I've mostly done huntseat, saddleseat, and dressage, so I just never felt the need to learn to jump. I figured it's about time now, so I'm having my first jumping lesson at a new barn in a week! This gave me an idea of what to expect.. thank you!
Thank you for this. I've been riding for over 20 years, and as an experienced (long distance) trail rider who has never jumped - with a first jumping lesson tomorrow, this has given me the confidence I need. Thank you!
This is great, thank you! I've been riding forever but I still lack so much confidence when it comes to jumping. One thing my trainer always reminds me of is to keep my leg on, regardless of how forward the horse feels during the approach. I have not yet ventured into distance and stride, but it's coming.
This is a great video for any amateur rider. It is a reminder to those of us that sometimes struggle with issues even if we have been jumping! Thank you!
Hi, new here. I love your content. My sister started jumping and when I saw this video I told her of some of the tips you mentioned. It helped her equitation over the fences so much. Thanks for this video
i really wish i had my own horse bc my trainer is holding me back and out of lesson i want a chance i have been riding for 8 years and still not jumping ( do you see what i mean) i might quit it is just so hard to see all my friends jump and here i am.
Lots of people don't understand how safe horses are when they are trained naturally and given plenty of choices in their training. It helps if they have plenty of time out in the field and get on with horses they like and have kind people only around. This kind of jumping is so much fun and the horses LOVE it as long as you are sensible and you enjoy it too. If you start on the ground and take your time it's extremely obvious that it would be quite easy if you can ride to hop on and go over the jumps on the horse and the horse would be quite happy even will no saddle or bridle. Often with me I can't be bothered to get one. For insurance reasons I wear my riding hat or to shut people up I wear one if they would be offended. Fie big jumps I wear a hat and if the horse isn't in the best mood I put one on too. Beginners should wear one and probably kids but all over the world people don't wear hard hats on horses so we must not be rude to people who don't have riding hats , saddles or bridles its offensivetl to othet countries!!!!!! 😊
Thank you, I’m an experienced western rider and I wanted to play around at an English schooling show but still be correct. This the was intro to English riding that I needed. Loved the details about elbows in and how to adjust the stirrups properly. Really nice job!
i’m going to boarding school with a HUGE equestrian program and all they do is english hunter jumping and i’ve only ever ridden western so i’m trying to take in as much as i can rn lmao
Your video lessons are so great at breaking things down into easy-to-understand chunks! I'm really struggling with my 2-point; my leg muscles need to be stronger. Do you have any exercises that you would recommend?
Thank you so much! I've struggled so bad with my 2 point and this was really helpful. I've had several different instructors and they all teach it differently, but this was very clear and understandable.
Thank you for this video! It helped me remember my sweet pony Gunner, who taught me everything you're displaying here, and many more lessons I should have recalled sooner
I really think beginners should ONLY jump under an instructor's guidance for at least several weeks. Jumping is not just "can be a little bit more risky," it IS riskier no doubt about it. But it is definitely fun! Also, you said to get in your two-point at the base of the jump, but I have always been told to do it several strides away.
Can you make/do you have a video on recovering confidence after being thrown? The gelding I ride tested me and reared trying to get rid of me. I stayed on, but got thrown later in the round pen. I’ve been thrown other times too when I had my own horse a number of years ago and it’s been a struggle to enjoy riding again.
Thank you so much! Recently I went to Blackpool and when I got back my mum needed to go Aldi so she left me and my step dad in the car and I said “I might have to search some riding schools up soon” and my step dad said he knew a place! Riding farm equestrian centre. Great breakfast and people there so when my mum got in the car I told her about it and she said I can do some research on it when we got back home so when I got back I searched up the place and saw so many nice reviews I knew this one was good so the next night I started doing some homework on it and you helped me know what I need too know, so, thank you so much!
I hate catching them in the mouth Mane grabbing 👍 Love the way your elbows bend I’m an ancient rider hoping to return to riding/jumping again soon First time I’ve seen your videos Extremely helpful video thank you 😀
so....when i started watching this vid it had 400+ views, after i went to comment, and it has almost 4k! like just 70 more! and what i was gonna comment was a huge thank you from me! Just so i am prepared!
I would say move your hand up on the horses neck and ots ok that the reins will loosen and it will allow the horse to move more freely. Also maybe ajust your stirrups up higher or lower and see if that helps your balance
Im reteaching my Morgan/mustang horse ground work still and I want him to be a barrel horse but I also want to do saddle seat and jumping he’s been in a pasture for a year before we got him so this is really helpful for when I want to start jumping
im 12 and i've ridden since i was 3, and i still havent even cantered on a horse (i kinda did on a lesson, the pony i was riding on spooked and i fell off)
Great explanation the only difference i would make is your stirrups 1 hole shorter and emphasing the foot position. Heels down and toes pointing inward thus putting force on your knees creating stability. And also accept the fact that gravity exist and that you will be subjected to it which will result in a, not so gentle, contact with the ground 😀
so i got moved to a more advanced class with a new trainer , and i’ve only ever cantered a couple cross rails. everyone in my new class canters the entire course , and my confidence is shaken to say the lease. i know that i’m ready to canter more jumps/courses but i’m scared of not getting the correct distance and falling off?! ive never been scared to ride before or try anything new so this is weird lol. but if i go to canter a fence should i let the horse do the work until i figure out the whole canter jump thing or should i really focus on getting my distances right? please help i’m desperate!
8 months ago I watched your video on how to ride the canter, trying not to be scared thinking about my first canter and now I'm watching this after my first jumps (50cm) and I'm so proud ! Your videos always help me out
Your first jump was 50 cm ?!?!!??!?! I started with 20cm
I love the way you treat beginners! Your so kind!!
I really needed this! Also I saw when Tucker took a small step and moved you didn’t pull on the rains or anything like a lot of riders I have seen do. You just let him be. yes, thanks for touching on this usually unnoticed topic :D
Wait time stamp?
@@Charr_luvvs I’ll try to find it
@@Charr_luvvs I couldn’t get an exact time stamp but it happens a few times
He kinda does at 3:20
Literally did my first jump today with my boy without launching myself. Thank you very much!
i just came from a lesson, and ive just recently started jumping in the past few months. this is super helpful! thanks for making this video :D i’ve definitely had (more than a few) awkward jumps thus far lol

Soon I'll be learning how to jump and this has boosted my confidence

Hello Carmella, could you please make a video of you jumping Tucker either just bareback or tackles please? I’d love to see that!
Thank you for this.
I've been riding for over 20 years, and as an experienced (long distance) trail rider who has never jumped - with a first jumping lesson tomorrow, this has given me the confidence I need. Thank you!
2 pointing over poles rly helped me with starting jumping!
The first time I jumped it wasn't really good but afew months later I became really good thank you!
This is great, thank you! I've been riding forever but I still lack so much confidence when it comes to jumping. Omg I needed this video.
Sameeeeee
This is a great video for any amateur rider. It is a reminder to those of us that sometimes struggle with issues even if we have been jumping! Thank you!
Thanks! My instructor said that once we all master (ish) our two points we will start over small cross rails! She said soon :)
Loved the video! I've been jumping for a couple of years, but this was a nice reminder of a few equitation points I'd let slip! Thanks!
YAY!! I've been asking for this!! I LOVE jumping!!
Tucker was looking at the camera like "Are you getting my good side?" 🤣🤣🤣

If you don't like the way he trains, you can try a new trainer! But u will need to tell him everything you already know to do!❤
This video saved me! There’s a small jumping comp at my stables and I’m jumping in it but I’ve been lacking confidence. Thank you so much 💗💗
Great video!! It’s helped me already in my first little cross jumps! Thank you so much ❤

This is really helpful!! You broke it down so clearly unlike other trainers. It’s my dream to jump.
Thank you, I’m an experienced western rider and I wanted to play around at an English schooling show but still be correct. This the was intro to English riding that I needed. Loved the details about elbows in and how to adjust the stirrups properly. Really nice job!

Amazing vid as usual 👏
You are so good at explaining things. Could you please do a video on how to get a horse to lengthen or shorten his stride?
I really needed thid video! Thank uu
Me, someone who has been eventing at a minimum of BE100 for 10 years: I should watch this

i have fallen off while jumping but this has boosted my braveness
Lovely video 👍👍
This video will help a lot.🐴🐴🐴🐎🐎🐎🐎
Thank you for this because I really want to become a horse keeper after my 2nd or 3rd horse ride
What helps me not lean on the horses neck Is jumping in a western saddle (a very short jump) cause of the horn
3:21 you shouldn’t be trying to put your hands on the neck but if you accidentally do it sometimes it’s ok
I have begun jumping but I have a fun little thing this weekend and I want to be extra prepared lol❤
A very good video
That was great a explanation. Thank you for sharing. ♥️✌️
Fantastic
I have a lesson in a hour so this will be helpful
Great video! Thanks for it!

The fact the video ended at 11:11 👀
My trainer says leglegleg I needed to see this ❤
And what is the height of your horse?
Just jumped for the first time yesterday…almost died. My horse over jumped it😂😂😅this video really helped!
I’ve been falling forward and losing my balance a lot and I feel like I don’t know where to move my hands over the jump, any tips?
I would say move your hand up on the horses neck and ots ok that the reins will loosen and it will allow the horse to move more freely. Also maybe ajust your stirrups up higher or lower and see if that helps your balance
Im reteaching my Morgan/mustang horse ground work still and I want him to be a barrel horse but I also want to do saddle seat and jumping he’s been in a pasture for a year before we got him so this is really helpful for when I want to start jumping
Thank you so much this helped so much ka new sub btw ❤❤
I jumped 1.30 it was so amazing
btw probibly best thing to do is not to lean forward because it can tell your horse to go fast
Rides western me: yes this is the video for me
I also have a bad habit of Putting my elbows out when jumping but now it will certainly be easier to not do so!
Thank you, this video was so great

Just the horse just know when to jump or do u have to tell it to in a certain way?
