Here’s the thing...Whitney Houston hits higher high notes and is a more flashy technical version of the song but Dolly has more emotion backing the song because of why she wrote it to begin with.

I like both versions hers and Whitney's. I don't think I have to choose. I like to listen to different versions of the same song. Sometimes I like one more than another. Right now I've been listing to the different versions of "Everlasting Love" and I do have a favorite version.

Porter was standing 10 feet away while she was singing to him live on the show. He was in tears. I saw it live on tv but didn't realize the significance of the song at the time.

Dolly Parton has a mass catalog of songs ranging from about 5,000. She has recorded around 60 studio albums, 30 #1 hit singles sold well over 150 million records and is still at the top of her game!

    If I should stay
I would only be in your way
And so I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you each step of the way
And I will always love you
    I will always love you
    Bitter-sweet memories
That's all I'm taking with me
    Good-bye, please don't cry
'Cause we both know that I'm not
    What you need
    I will always love you
    I will always love you
I hope life, treats you kind
And I hope that you have all
    That you ever dreamed of
    I wish you joy
    And I wish you happiness
    But above all this
    I wish you love
And I love you will always love you
I, I will always, always love you
    I will always love you
    I will always love you
    I will always love you

In 1966 or 67, Dolly became a regular performer on The Porter Wagner Show. They fought like cats and dogs (Dolly's words). When her contract was up, Dolly was ready to move on. Porter wanted her to stay, even going so far as to tell her she owed it to him. She wrote this song in one night hoping it would explain how she felt and how grateful she was to him. She sat him down and sang it for him. But he was just too angry. She left the show and went out on her own. Porter actually sued her for the rights to the songs she wrote while under contract with him. And he won the suit. Her songs were legally his. Years later, Porter was sick and broke and mostly forgotten, except in Nashville. He was selling all those songs that he had won. Dolly Parton bought all her songs back from him. Dolly has a beautiful heart full of compassion and forgiveness. She felt no sense of justice or revenge. After buying the songs from him, she gifted them back to him. I heard her say once that every time she sings or hears this song, she thinks of Porter Wagner.

When Dolly recorded this in 1974, it went to number one. Then she re-recorded it again in 1982 and it went to number one again. When Whitney Houston covered it in 1992 it went to number one for a third time. Dolly recorded it again on an album with Vince Gill in 1995 and though it wasn't even officially released as a single, it peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard charts. I believe if their version had been released as a single it would have hit number one for a fourth time! Dolly has said that if this song was the only song she had ever written or recorded, she would have made a very nice living! That's undoubtedly true because I'm sure it played a massive role in her present financial situation, and she is currently reputed to be worth $500 million dollars. Folks, that's a half a BILLION dollars! Not bad for a little girl who was raised dirt poor in a tiny house in the hills of Tennessee!

@@baddboyzoftexas3413She's said in interview that she was SO nervous that night. It was the first time that she was ever going to sing her song. That was her song that she was singing TO her partner that she was leaving tbeir music relationship as you'd mentioned This was HIS show that she was performing on. Of course he was there on the set of the live show because he had just introduced her. He knew that their collaboration was over BUT that performance was how he found out the song was actually written AS her musical goodbye to him. She was singing it directly TO HIM that night while he was right there. She ALSO write Jolene on that same day btw~she has said in interviews that "it was a good day" for her. I don't know IF you know this aviit her but she's built an amusement park many years ago it's called Dollywood. Also she began a literacy program for children. Also when there was a lot of devastation from those floods a few years back in the Smokey mountain area of the country. That is where she had grown up. She felt that she had to do something to help people there. She donated a lot of money to the famiies thaf were ffected. That way they could begin to repair their homes. ❤

@@baddboyzoftexas3413 Hey there guys! If you want to check out some great songs, I've got some suggestions. I'm an olfef biker lady and I think I probably might be one of your older folks here it seems to be. I grew up in s musical family. We listened to everything and there was an 8 yr gap with 1 brother & a 10 yr gap with the other. There's a 40 yr gap between me and my parents. My 1 brother played classical guitar & N.Y. other brother played classical piano. So I was raised on Bach, Mozart and Chopin. BUT I was also raised on swing music, oldies, ZZ Top, Queen, BB King, Jethro Tull, Luciano Pavarotti, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, Lynrd Skynyrd, Zydeco, Rolling Stones, and many more spanning so msny decades. I've got a huge selection of stuff to tell you guys about what I think is really great for yiou to dive into for your channel. Soooo...you need to check out Dolly's song Jolene and check out Coat of the Many Colors IF you haven't as of yet. IF you want a great duet, check out Dolly and Kenny Rogers Islands In The Stream. You are going into a rabbit's hole when it comes to Dolly Parton...there's literally decades of a musical discography here. It's kinda like someone saying ok...pick out a good Johnny Cash song for me go listen to. You'd be like oh man WHERE do I even start cuz he gave us so much over the decades he was here. Speaking of the Man In Black...I'm not sure of you've checked out this song yet of his. Well technically it's a cover BUT in a way it's not. The song is called Hurt by Johnny Cash okay? Now that IS a cover of a song by Trent Reznors band Nine Inch Nails. IDK if you're familiar with NINs music from when this came out way back in the 90s I believe it was...but they're kind of a metal/industrial/rock band. So Johnny heard their music and wanted to cover the song. Now THAT'S how it's technically a cover. BUT it's also not because of Trent Reznors reaction to it and to the video of it. After he heard it and then watched Johnny Cash's video of his song. He came out publicly and has said that he really liked how Johnny did it. He also said that this isn't HIS song anymore~the song belongs TO Johnny now. So check that one out too. It's a hard watch and I've seen both videos. If you want 3 great duets...check the one with Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse. Then check out the one with Luciano Pavarotti and Tracy Chapman. Then check out the one with Luciano Pavarotti and James Brown. YUP! Luciano Pavarotti did a huge concert years ago with a bunch of artists he liked where he sang duets of other artists songs...IT IS some pretty cool stuff. Wishing you peace, love and good music guys!
      😉❤😎😷🤘
