Let's not forget that per Putin's decree Ukrainian passports are declared invalid in the occupied territories after June 30. Ukrainians who haven't accepted a Russian passport by then will be considered stateless and illegal aliens in their own country. Given that not long ago Russian commanders told their soldiers to never even speak to the local population without explicit order because the locals allegedly report "everything" to the Ukrainian troops, it is safe to assume a large portion of the population in the occupied territories is strongly opposed to the invaders. It worries me a lot to see practically nobody here in the west talking about this. Are we again sitting on our hands, hoping that nothing will happen, waiting until thousands (or many more) Ukrainians are being deported to some "filtration camps" in Siberia?
I forgot to write this: The prospects for Ukrainian men in these territories are truly terrifying. They could accept the Russian passport, only to be sent directly to the front to fight as "meat" in suicide missions against their own people. This is not purely speculation, Putin has done it already at the very beginning of the invasion when he announced the general mobilization in the newly annexed "people's republics". If they refuse the Russian citizenship, who knows what's going to happen to them. Or they could try to flee westwards - but for that they would have to cross the front line, scorched earth, minefields and what not included. And likely the Russians trying to prevent them from reaching free Ukraine, so that's probably not really an option. Absolutely horrifying. Oh and Putin already declared his intention to repopulate Mariupol with 300.000 Russians. It seems this creep really wants to be remembered as a second Stalin.

Hard to see how the West could do something about this. I mean, other than sending more weapons, which the West in all its imperfection tries to do already.
It is safe to assume a large percentage of that population will be liquidated and go through much worse before the end too. But, “oh no, their next leader might be worse” or “oh no will other kleptocrats bank with us less if we transfer the frozen profits from Russian interest?” (not even the frozen funds). Pathetic.
The only way the West even gets away with the frozen money thing is because politicians say “well it’s very complicated” (a transparent deflection), b) the media helps them out by spending more time on “the risks” of doing it then the endless reasons it should have already been done and c) the media and public seem to forget about it between each of the “decisions” which are like “a commission is studying how we could do it” or “we must determine how it can be used.” It’s all so infuriating and pathetic.
Exactly. It's not a coincidence that republicons in the U.S. Congress have been using this same strategy for years and frequently regurgitate putin's talking points.

Of course they can. And they will. I have never doubted it and never will.
Ukraine is much stronger now than it was in 2014, militarily, economically, institutionally, and in terms of its national identity. If Russia had conducted a full-scale invasion in 2014, Ukraine's allies would probably have been more active but Ukraine would have been much less able to resist. On the other hand, Belarus and the Russian public would have been much more resistant to the invasion back then, too, so maybe it doesn't matter.
No, I think you're correct...the timing for a successful russian invasion was a few years earlier, but they were not as prepared & covid interrupted, etc.

As an old man who grew up with the threat of Russia as an aggressor with Nukes from the late ‘50s onwards, who met younger people who had made it out of the Soviet sphere and who told me about the Kremlin’s views of the West, I have always kept a sideways eye on how they did their business and how they constantly infiltrated and created unrest on the global stage.
Provoking uprisings here and there, using propaganda to destabilise societies, arming small separatist groups, creating doubt and pointing the finger of guilt at whoever they chose to weaken at any given time.
This has always been their playbook but the increase in saturation of the media space that the WWW has made possible has turbocharged their ability to manipulate entire populations in a way that was never possible previously.
I completely agree with the ISW’s report and it’s conclusions.
The one way to resolve the problem that Russia represents as a nation is to offer no option but for them to withdraw in the face of overwhelming opposition.
That and to say “EFF YOU” to their agents of chaos at every single opportunity.
I try to do my part, algorithm notwithstanding. I hope that the many others that I see doing the same will also continue to do so. It is a small thing but never as necessary as it is now.

With a small addition that this time the adversary has gone down a strict (szcizo)fascist route and are allied with all autocracies similar to pre-WW2 Germany. I suggest to watch channel Ryan McBeth (Programming), especially the livestream of today (31/3) for insight how the latter works. And your own domestic documentary "Against all enemies", out two days ago.

I can't do it alone either. But I can and have contacted my elected officials, one of my Senators voted against the bill that the Senate had passed but is being blocked in the House. I voted against him in the Republican primary. My Representative hasn't answered questions I asked. I voted against him too. And the main reason I voted in the Republican primary was so I could vote for Hailey. I know she didn't win, but was a vote against the biggest threat to our nation and the world, tRump. In November I'll vote for Biden. I disagree with him on many things and normally I would vote for a third party candidate if I don't really like either party's candidate. But in my lifetime a third party candidate has never won the presidency. I won't waste my vote this year.
I can't do it alone either, but I can talk with family and friends. Maybe I can have some influence by explaining the threats tRump presents to out country and to our allies. And I can VOTE !!!💙

There are some loudmouths, one in particular, in our House of Representatives that are delaying a vote on an aid bill that would allocate 66 billion dollars to aid Ukraine. It already passed in our Senate and in the house there is a large majority that would vote for it. One guy won't let it come up for a vote. That azz likes tRump and tRump likes pootin, so yeah, I know there are some Americans that support ruzzia, but not as many as pootin would have you believe.

Yup and some follow up on that Chzech find about Russian money bribbing our politicians that needs to be done in every country and its finds put up very public. It might not reach the level of criminale activity but the voters should know who the politicians are that are financed or helped in other ways by Russia.

I've seen how the misinformation affects people. I see trolls spreading pootin's talking points, sowing doubts, and dividing the west, maybe especially the US. I deal with it daily. Excellent paper! That said, I tend to disagree on one point: the European strong tendency to stop the fighting even at a high cost is less a russian narrative, it's more a genuine conclusion of WWII, kind of proven by 70 years of peace. The mistake here is to not recognize that this strategy doesn't work with Putin. Not at all.
Well, this was sobering, but also what we knew and were thinking.

Partly yes, but that only means they don't care and are compromised by internal rasha-sympathisers pretending to be neutral (all the ZOV channels like Russian Bear and State media are up and running). CEO of YT is a very smart and sneaky Indian (Neil Mohan), who on the surface doesn't care one bit for who they give platform to - his perverted company appears neutral at a first glance. It's rules appear non-political on the surface. However when the draconian censorship guidelines push bot and fascist disinformation comments up and delete factual responses, hosts all possible Russian black-propaganda that don't use triggerwords and still censor the responses, while deleting more radical anti-russian channels, it just got abused by the very people fighting the infowar on Russia's side.
Patreon has done even worse things to Artur Rehi and others lately. For them it's just profit - and after trying to contact Patreon - i'm quite sure there are Russia-sympathisers in their leadership too. For them this info-war is just for profit and word games. I'm sure Russia's agents are among moderators or programmers too.

Not only that. I just got another confirmation that YT is infiltrated by pro-Russian mods and agents. The CEO is Indian who doesn't give a crap about anything as long as engagement and revenue goes up.
By deleting my comment (i bet Gregory didn't do that) with more details and recently many more factual comments in replies to kremlinbots and disinformation (which usually appear at the top of the comment section if left unmoderated by chanell), they've lost their "community guidelines" cover. We should hold YT managers responsable for this mess too!
