- The day began with hopes of a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon. But they were soon dashed by Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel and Hezbollah continued to trade fire throughout the day. Hezbollah fired rockets at several northern towns and military bases in Israel, though no casualties were reported.

While Israel expanded its attacks to include targets on the border with Syria - hitting infrastructure it says is used to transfer weapons from Syria to Hezbollah. This, as Syrian and Lebanese citizens head the other way, seeking safety in Syria.
There was another strike on a suburb of Beirut, which Israel says killed the head of Hezbollah's drone unit, Mohammed Surur.
And towns and cities in Southern Lebanon have continued to be hit, including Nabatieh and Ansar. The government says at least 28 people were killed in the past 24 hours in Lebanon - many of them Syrian workers and their families.

These types of situations are always confusing. If we accept the premise that Israel has a right to exist (and majority opinion in the world says it does) then unless Hezbollah acquires a nuke, there is absolutely no way on Allah’s Earth they will defeat a state backed to the absolute hilt militarily by the USA. If Hezbollah had anything about them (they don’t) they would focus more on the disastrous economic basket case state that is Lebanon, rather than sparring with Israel. It’s in relatively recent historical memory that Beirut was (with some justification) known as the ‘Paris of the Middle East’. What once was, can be again. They can’t win. Israel, short of an all-out nuclear WW3 _will_ continue to exist no matter what Hezbollah/Hamas do.
The sooner these groups (and those who think like them), wake up to this realisation the better for us all. Including, in the long run, themselves.
