  • We continue to play the Maurice rules with our 15mm figures.
Melilla is a city nestled on the Moroccan coast being the protagonist of several armed situations, for what interests us, historically in 1715 had to be rescued from a long siege. so suit our armies.
We don't have a Moroccan army either, but I think Lluis' Ottoman army can do the job with some leniency.
As always, you can follow our adventures in more depth on the blog: defiant-principality.blogspot...
For those interested in the figures used, Lluís documents all his figures at: soldadets.blogspot.com/p/segle...
And in my videos you can see my Spanish army figures, except for a couple of units that are also by Lluís.
You will see that this time we use units of "four bases" instead of three as up to now. We have experimented with a couple of methods to be able to extend them without having to re-base the figures we had prepared for other rules. Let's see what you think, I know it's not the same effect as a mass of 24 figures, but.... Do you know a good solution?

I don't know how I missed this post. My buddy and I have begun to play Maurice ourselves. I have assembled a French army opposed by a Hanoverian army. Our games seem to go for hours. We worry too much about disruptions and rallying. You fellows seem to throw your forces right into the fray. Thanks for the post. Your miniatures are well done as always. Happy gaming!

It also happened to us that we tried to have everything ready for the moment of the confrontation: ten cards in hand that were the right ones, the units without disruptions, the artilleries in the best possible place... I can't set myself up as an expert, but I do understand if you try to have everything under control you give the initiative to the opponent to maneuver and accumulate resources against a unit or your flank. The units are very tough and it's hard enough to break them frontally without support so you can let some unit get some disruptions in exchange for doing something more aggressive elsewhere in the table. As Sam Mustafa says in the rules FAQs "Sometimes you just have to let units die. You can't save everybody."

"Moroccans" are Lluís Vilalta's and spaniards are almost all mine. Lluís have a great figures exhibition in their blog: soldadets.blogspot.com/p/segle-xviii.html Thanks for your comment!

Great game, beautiful figures and terrain. 15mm is certainly the best scale for horse and musket battles!!

Thank you! Indeed very true, 15mm allows for quite large and visually striking army and terrain sizes without needing extra long arms to reach the entire table

I've been so looking forward to this little engagement. It may not be boats, but it's wonderful nonetheless! One quick question regarding the rules. Does MAURICE require those little situational markers in Green, Yellow, Amber and Red or is this something you have adopted for the game? Well done! Eagerly looking forward to the next.

It is necessary to indicate in some way the state of disruption of the units, in the rules they suggest markers with casualty figures as an example. Thank you very much for coming to watch the video and comment!

Nice wideo. How you construc armies on this campain? It is based on histiorical records or buy for points?

    • @MinisMyWay

It is a fiction, although historically Melilla was besieged in 1775. The Spanish player must gather all his forces to achieve an army of 100 points. The Moroccan has his forces more dispersed so he must gain time to be able to gather them, although the Spanish player does not know the total sum. The referee has placed units in different detachments and depending on how many are gathered at the battle point they will add up the corresponding points for the battle. It is a very simple mechanism, but it brings uncertainty and variety. Thanks for your subscription and for the comment!

In this Forum Lluís has explained in detail how has designed the mini-campaign, specifically in the entry for March 9, 2023: fifeanddrumminis.proboards.com/thread/4912/defiant-principality
