Can i teach english as a non-native speaker if i know almost no grammar? I'm pretty fluent in speech and writing, but it's all instinctual and subconscious. When someone asks me why is something the way it is in english all i can say is "it's just is". Would these courses help me bridge that gap or are they more for people who just need to brush up on their already existing understanding of the language?
You absolutely need to know grammar to teach English. If you do a TEFL course it won’t teach you the grammar, it will teach you how to teach grammar. I recommend brushing up on English grammar first. There are lots of helpful books!

In your knowledge or understanding, how is Trinity CertTESOL? I don't want to teach young learners at all. Is TEFL mostly about teaching young learners? Will it be worth every penny if I go for Trinity CertTESOL? Please guide if you can!
CertTESOL is the Trinity brand TEFL. I haven’t taken it but I did take CELTA and they are similar. They are very good courses for teaching adults. It depends on how you want to use it. It’s usually for new teachers or a top up for experienced teachers. There’s also more advanced courses like DELTA.

The level of my English is that I lack fluency . Could you help me into this .And I am not financially strong so could help me in choosing the best TEFL online courses.
I highly recommend getting your English level to a C1 or C2 before doing your TEFL course. I recommend CELTA, ITA or CertTESOL for non-native speakers. Unfortunately these courses are expensive, but they are the highest quality and NNS need to be as qualified as possible.
Hello fabulous teacher..I am a teacher of English from Iraq and I am interested in taking TESOL or CELTA in person.what country do you recommend for me?

What if you just want to teach English in your own English speaking country? All these videos on UA-cam seem to focus on teaching English abroad, but are there jobs in English speaking countries?
Each country is different, but typically if you want to teach English or ESL in your own country, you can become a certified teacher and get a teaching license and teach in public or private schools or get a TEFL and teach ESL classes at language schools. I teach in Australia at a language school and have students from all over the world.

However, no job support is given. If you want a comparable course with job search assistance, I recommend ITA: bit.ly/ITATEFL

It depends on the country you are teaching in, the actual position and your visa. You will be asked to submit assignments for CELTA. I worked at a school while doing my course and used the computer at school for the research and assignments.
I have not personally tested it out yet. I only recommend courses that I have tested so I can verify if they are legit! I will put it on my list of courses to try.

Hey, thanks for the video. I'm doing a TEFL from International Open Academy right now. It's 120 hours, all online and accredited. I have a Bachelor's degree. My main goal is to teach English online for 6 months to a year. A job like VIPKID would have been great but oh well. I want something like that. Do you think this certificate is good enough to land a job like that ?
Your link that I selected sends me to premier TEFL, obviously this is an affiliate link. It just happens to be one of the ones that I have open on my laptop (right now I'm on my mobile phone) seems legitimate, though I'll need to do my research first to avoid a scam.
Oh, I'm from England and live abroad. My spellings are different from US spellings, example colour vs color/specialised vs specialised etc. I cannot change my spellings! Hopefully that shouldn't be a problem with whichever course I zone in on.
Yes, it is an affiliate link, as disclosed in the video description. I partner with Premier TEFL and have looked at the TEFL certificate myself to make sure I am recommending a great certificate for my viewers.

Hello! I have a teaching license with a clde endorsement (cultural/linguistic diverse education) does this have any standing for teaching english abroad or would you recommend getting certified in one of the options you mentioned?
I still recommend getting a TEFL if you want to teach ESL because you’ll want to learn the methods to teaching English as a Foreign Language. For interviews you may be asked to teach a demo lesson, so it’s best to be well prepared.
@@tytraulich4987 It's possible to teach 1:1 in private academies, in-company business classes or on a freelancer visa, but I would say that most people do classroom teaching first to gain experience and then move to private tutoring.

If you don’t have teaching experience I recommend CELTA or International TEFL Academy (link is in the description). The difference is that CELTA is more for teaching adults and ITA offers lifetime job search assistance but CELTA does not. I recommend starting with ITA and if you feel like you want more later on, you can always do a CELTA.

Hi Jaimie . I have completed my Mba and passed IELTS test with the hope of doing a course abroad. But unfortunately it did not work out. So I have been training students for IELTS for the past 4 years. As a change of mind, I’m looking for a english course and ended up watching your vedio and it was worthy. Can you suggest whther TESOL OR TESL is best for teaching in English speaking countries??
Hi! TEFL/TESOL/TESL are all the same thing. Different countries use different acronyms. I am currently teaching in Australia using my CELTA certificate. This is the Cambridge brand TEFL certificate. Each country has different regulations to get a visa to teach there so I recommend choosing your top 5 countries and researching the requirements. Jobs can be competitive in English speaking countries so it’s helpful to have an actual teaching certificate as well as a TEFL. I hope this helps!
In USA I did some research and I found that you have to attend a course accredited by the ACCET or CEA?? I can't find any information of this on UA-cam. I'm serious about teaching and want to get the right accredited course in my country. I really need help, can you recommend any courses in America that are accredited? Thank you for reading.
I'm from India and I am a graduate with a major in English and not so long ago, I completed my Education degree (B.ed). Moreover, I'm planning to teach abroad and thus, I'm searching to do TEFL either online from other countries or from Delhi, India itself. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find a good institute for the TEFL certificate course and it is quite exhausting. Hopefully, you might suggest a prominent and trustable institute for the TEFL course online outside India.
So level 5 courses for those with zero teaching experience and a bachelors degree, correct? I have 2 under grad degrees and I’ve been researching changing careers and giving back to others such a teaching English. I’ve been eyeing a level 5 course for quite sometime
Yes I recommend level 5 courses if you don’t have previous teaching experience because they go more in-depth than the basic 120-hour courses. It’s best to do a course that has a teaching practicum so you can get feedback on your teaching.

Me too. I am brazilian living in USA for 12 years and moving to Portugal. Taught portuguese and English in school for 15 years but I would like to take Tefl course, I just don't know which one

Hello Jamie, what do you think of the Arizona State TESOL Coursera course? in which tier would you put it?
It’s an interesting concept because you pay until you complete it. The faster you complete it, the cheaper it is. I haven’t personally done it yet, but may review it for a future video 🙂

Peace Jamie, thanks for your informative videos. I'm glad you mentioned you have an MA and clearly lots of international teaching experience. I am an ESL teacher in NYC with an MA and TESOL certificate. I want to transition into teaching ESL abroad. I have about 2 yrs of teaching experience in ESL, but I have not taught internationally yet. Which level of TEFL would you recommend??
If you already have a TESOL, you don't need a TEFL. It's the same :)
Hi Jamie,
Thank you for this video!! Can you please help me? I have master's level education in the sciences and have some teaching experience with children and university students. I've debated going with ITA, but after seeing your video maybe I dont need something so exhaustive. What about ed credentials that have an ELL, english language learner authorization?
It depends on the country and school. Often you won’t need an additional certificate if you have a license in ELL.
You typically don’t need a TEFL on top of that.
Hi, how are you? My question is what tefl course have you taken? I mean the prices you've been explaining the whole video in order to get the certificate.
I personally did a CELTA.
I am sub teacher in florida , 1.5 years and wanna know if that teaching experience gonna be valuable , i was thinking that celta or cert tesol would be good or just need tefl Ok because i am already teaching. i dont have a BA as a sub doesnt need that to do subbing in florida where i live.
If you don’t have a degree, I recommend a higher quality TEFL like CELTA, CertTESOL or ITA but it also depends on where you want to teach.
Hi, Jamie!
I have 8 years of experience teaching or training adults in English Language Training; I have also worked as a Curriculum Developer (ELT) and Content Writer.
Many thanks for answering! Yes, I am aware of DELTA and DipTESOL as well.

As I am not a native speaker so it is mandatory to give the IELTS exam before applying to do the course.
Thank you for your response. For level C1 and C2 what should I do? . I am thinking of giving the IElTS Exam . Should I go for it?

What if you just want to teach English in your own English speaking country? All these videos on UA-cam seem to focus on teaching English abroad, but are there jobs in English speaking countries?
Each country is different, but typically if you want to teach English or ESL in your own country, you can become a certified teacher and get a teaching license and teach in public or private schools or get a TEFL and teach ESL classes at language schools. I teach in Australia at a language school and have students from all over the world.

I did CELTA but have since taken many others to test them for my channel.
In USA I did some research and I found that you have to attend a course accredited by the ACCET or CEA?? I can't find any information of this on UA-cam.
