Rastan is an all-time classic. One of the greatest Arcade games ever. That Stage 1 theme music always takes me back. One of the best if not the best Conan-inspired game period.
When I was very little, my family always stayed at this one hotel halfway between my home and where my grandparents and aunts lived. It was a Holiday Inn with a Holidome and it had an arcade which had this game in it for the longest time. I remember being around 5-6 years old and watching the demo screen in awe at what games could be like. I've been looking forward to revisiting this game and trying it for myself. (I was too young to reach the controls when I first saw it)
Originally released in March of 1987 in Japan, and internationally a month later where in some regions like North America, it was simply known as just Rastan. Rastan Saga is a hack and slash platformer which has players assume the role of a barbarian named Rastan who used to be a thief and a murderer in order to make ends meet in his times of struggle, until one day, he was contracted by the princess of the Kingdom of Cemia to undertake the task of slaying a dragon who threatens the kingdom. Control wise, alongside with the obvious 8 way joystick, you have Attack and Jump buttons. Some advanced moves include downward strikes to break open some blocks and provide stronger airborne damage. Game wise, the game consists of 6 rounds with 3 acts each (outdoor, inside the castle, and a boss battle) with unlimited continues until the 6th and final act where you will not be able to continue. Aside from enemy strikes, Rastan can be hurt by ingesting red vials (which contain poison), and be instantly killed if he falls into fire or some bodies of water. He can also be killed instantly if he is crushed by a spiked ceiling trap. Along the way in his quest, Rastan can obtain weapons that enhance his attack strength (the Axe), attack distance (Mace), or temporarily provide distanced attacks (Fire Sword), as well as items that reduce damage such as a shield, mantle, or armament, and replenish health such as vials of blue potion and the rare sheep's head which fully replenishes Rastan's health. Enemies in Rastan include half-human/half-beast soldiers, Winged Creatures like Harpies, and Chimeras. If Rastan takes up too much time, Bats will swarm the barbarian hero.
Finally a game from my teenage years. Many thanks for this 2:01 that dungeon music stuck in my head for years and even drove me insane trying to remember where it came from
About damn time! I already purchased on my Switch been checking weekly for months and today I check and there it is Finally! Hamster please make Wrestlefest happen soon too please!
Since Pole Position 1 and 2 already have steering wheel support for Arcade Archives, we could end up seeing some light gun shooters on here too, like Operation Wolf, Operation Thunderbolt, or even some from a company name left untouched for years, Exidy. While there is no policy that prohibits American companies from joining the Arcade Archives, all of them coincidentally just don't want anything to do with the series. Exidy is probably best known for Death Race, Venture, Crossbow, and *sighs* Chiller (the latter, which would obviously be too graphic for the AA series)!
Brilliant game. This will be getting downloaded asap tomorrow, thanks Hamster. Any chance of Solomons Key and Rygar for the PlayStation in the UK please?
If Parodius Da needs to come to the Arcade Archives, then some melodies have to be changed because, not all symphonies are in the public domain. Its like what happened with Sonic 3 & Knuckles in Sonic Origins where the music of some areas was changed due to Michael Jackson's involvement in Sonic 3.
We got a amazing game from Taito, yet i am still waiting for Ganbare Ginkun, R-Type, and Vs. Dr. Mario to get their turns to release. Not being mean though.
@@KarnovJr yeah but i meant a release for R-Type 1 through the Arcade Archives Series. it's been confirmed on GameFaq that R-Type 1 will get a Arcade Archives release but we have been waiting for it for a while
@@KarnovJr yeah that may be the reason for the long delay, as we will wait until Hamster gets back the Irem License so that Arcade Archives R-TYPE will finally be released.
@beauwalker9820 I have been waiting for the new Namco Museum to be released for years. There are other Namco arcade games that did not made it on console yet

One of my top three arcade games as a kid! I'm in!
Unbelievable. Rastan's finally coming to Switch.
Maybe Rastan Saga 2/Nastar Warrior and Warrior Blade Rastan will come soon.
OMG the greatest video game ever!!! I own the arcade board! Now if Hamster would do Mr. Do! from Universal!!!

Rastan was my childhood favorite, when I first heard that music I was blown away, some of the most iconic arcade music ever made imo.

Okay, okay, okay, I'll buy it. No trouble, I don't care.
Rastan is an excellent game. Well done!
We need Rastan III
Well done for allowing us to play this Taito game again. Is Light Bringer scheduled for release soon?
Light Bringer and Arabian Magic, maybe.
Oh, now you folks at Hamster put this game out after I've tracked down a copy of Taito Legends for PS2. I'm going to have to buy this one too.
Dear Hamster. Please release Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga III PLEASEEEEE 💰
Thank u so much for this, I'm sure I can use my switch compatible arcade stick too.
I’d also leap at the chance to play Rastan Saga III: Warrior Blade!

Here's hoping the namco arrangement games get released!
This soundtrack needs a good HARDCORE, HEAVY METAL, remake.
Next week, for the Arcade Archive's 10th anniversary, please give us Tinkle Pit.
Watch it be Ridge Racer or Tekken. They might start putting out 3D games now.
@@KarnovJr 3D games? Are you joking? I love 2D games on Arcade Archives. Hamster doesn't normally do 3D games.
@@mastersproutgamer9327 Not joking. Don't be surprised to see Winning Run, Air Combat, Starblade, Cyber Sled soon as well.
It's about time....... Arcade archives has shelled out lousy titles for the longest time. Finally something respectable.
Hi Hamster, could you please release arcade racing games from Jaleco please ? Like BIG RUN, CISCO HEAT ? Thank you.
I got it today.
I went to switch eShop it’s not there 😢 (update: looks like it releases may 2nd)

That's not a Namco game.
