Hey guys and welcome to the video where we finally answer the question of whether you need a toner in your routine or not.. I love both James and Hyram so whilst this is a bit of fun to compare their different opinions skincare is personal to the individual so no hate, only love for them both and leave me a comment below to let me know are you a toner or an avoider? xx

I’ve never believed that toners were needed and thought of them as an unnecessary step. Then while diving into more Korean beauty products (and James Welsh recommendation) I decided to try Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner. The first time I used it, my skin loved it and I was automatically hooked! It took my skin to the next level especially after upgrading my game with tretinoin when hydration is key! I’m now officially one of those people who think hydrating toner in absolutely essential and it became a staple in my routine

Hey hun thank you so much for watching and for sharing your thoughts on the Klairs toner which I totally agree with you on as I love how it makes the skin feel.. I think toners are great for people who have drier skin types but they are less essential for those of us with oily skin.. Sending lots of love xx

I tend to think toners are just a way for skincare companies to make more money, but at the same time I love skincare so much I can't help but try them lol. Thanks for the recommendations. I am going to have to look into FaceTheory products!

Toner is my favorite part of my skincare routine and the part I look forward to most. I have dry skin and this is my hydrating step. I don’t use a separate hydrating serum (unless it’s a peptide serum) because too many serums feel disgusting on my face. Korean skincare seems to be focused on hydration and has so many amazing toners. I don’t even use a cotton pad. I just douse my face with a watery thin toner. Yeah, I will never ever skip the toner step. I’m going with Kelly Driscoll and James welsh here.
Right now my HG toner is Elizavecca 100% centella asiatica toner. It has an odd smell (I thinks it’s fermented) that dissipates quickly but it’s super hydrating and plumping and I love centella asiatica and even mugwort. Both ingredients reduce redness around my nose.

Haha I totally agree with you and I think people with dry skin are those who will benefit the most from having a toner in their routine.. For other skin types I think its totally optional but in order to build your hydration levels then a toner is key.. Sending lots of love xx

I love my glycolic acid toner from The Ordinary but I'm really perplexed as to which serums it's ok to add before. I believe you addressed this in your " what not to mix video". I need to revisit...sidenote: I'm absolutely obsessed with Facetheory as of late. Affordable but feel so luxury...

Can you please please please talk about one of these things in your next videos (if you like ) . I would love to hear your thoughts 🌸
1- clay masks or face masks in general and do they actually work . and how to choose the right mask for your skin type/concerns .
Recommended products, thoughts about popular face masks.
2- how to Strengthen and repair your moisture barrier .
      3. Peptides in skincare, are they necessary ? !
      4. Facial oils for every skin type and are they necessary or beneficial? should we use them daily ?
      5. I don’t know if you use foundation or not but what do you think about Foundations in general? People who have oily /acne prone skin will definitely understand this , it’s very difficult to find foundation that won’t clog pores and cause breakouts . most makeup doesn't cause acne, but certain ingredients can clog pores , what are the ingredients that we should avoid ?

I used toners for years after cleansing to take off any makeup left behind. Now that I do the "double cleanse," I no longer need a toner. I suppose I could add a hydrating product, but I've worked so hard to simplify my skincare routines, I just can't do it! IF I actually worked outside the home, and needed a hydration "pick me up" during the day, I would consider a hydrating spray, like the Indie Lee product!

Thank you so much for this! I've been questioning whether or not a toner is necessary in my routine because I find them helpful but been watching Hyram profess they are not needed. I have dry, dehydrated, yet not overly sensitive skin so I find it very helpful for reasons you've laid out in the video. I used them strategically, sometimes for exfoliating and sometimes priming for actives and the remainder of my routine. I use the Some By Mi AHA BHA PHA 30 Day Miracle Toner as a light exfoliant toning agent and the Clarins Extra-Comfort Toning Lotion to prime for serums and the remainder of my routine. I know Clarins in not en vogue but I do find them to prime the skin quite well. As always, I really appreciate your input and have benefited from your reviews and input.

I use the 7 skin method (I actually layer a few different ones), enough said lol. But in all seriousness, I think it’s a good way to get a cocktail of nice ingredients into your skin without layering seventy seven serums, especially if some serum textures make you want to claw your face off. Like, I despise hyaluronic acid serums, but I like my toner that’s high in HA because it’s less gloopy, I also use toners to exfoliate bc I have sensitive skin (and use retinol) and I prefer lower concentrations of acids. I prefer to get my soothe and hydration and antioxidants (I’m talking about stuff like green tea, not vitamin c) from them and go to serums for “treatment”: retinol, nicinamide, vit c, peptides...

I know there is a lot of debate about the "need" for a toner in your routine, but I'm a sucker for Korean toners and essences. I rotate among several and I love the hydration, the smooth consistency, the calming properties of the fermented ingredients, and in the case of the I'm From Rice Toner, the brightening properties of the rice. I also use the Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner, the Purito Fermented Complex 94 Boosting Essence, the Pyunkang Yul Toner Essence and the Sioris Time is Running Out Mist. I'm a little bit addicted.

Hi hun, I do believe that the need of toner depends on skin type and condition. Only when i included a toner on my skin care I started to see that my skin is not so dehydrated , my pores are smaller (look smaller) and my T zone does not produce so much sebum. So, I think that DSWP skin types need / will benefit from the use of the right toner.

I use my toner in the morning instead of a cleanser. It's a super basic one (glycerin, aloe, chia extract, rose water) from Sante (a german brand). Nothing fancy but it gets the job done. I rely on my serums for active ingredients. A lot of toner gets lost in my reusable cotton pads so I wouldn't spend a lot on it. Great video 😊

While I found it initially irritating I have started to enjoy the Purito Centella Unscented Toner over the past few days. If my skin has been irritated from my Tretinoin it doesn't tolerate it (I assume due to the witch hazel), but aside from that I find it hydrates my dry skin.
(Next time I will order the witch hazel free version for sure!). On days where my skin has been irritated I switch to The Ordinary Buffet serum and skip the toner.

After having opted out of toner for the past 10 yrs, that's recently changed. I'm growing to love my toner. I have sensitive / rosacea skin. I LOVE the Be Plain Chamomile pH-Balanced Toner to calm my red face after a hot shower (I know hot shower is bad, but I can't help it - I LOVE HOT SHOWERS) This toner calms my skin right down, the botanicals smell lovely (the scent fades quickly), contains licorice root to calm and feels like a luxury treat to myself! (Yes, I'm a sucker for the toner experience!)

You won't be impressed, but I use the Simple Hydrating Toner. It doesn't have any benefit, but I bought it because it's alcohol free and I use it to get rid of the hard water residue. I have felt the difference in my skin since using it, and I think it's because it's removing some of the minerals that my tap water leaves behind.
I also really like The Beauty Chef Probiotic Skin Refiner, but since it has lactic acid in the ingredients list, I don't know whether I can use it before Vitamin C or other active serums.
Edit to add, I also use the NIOD SDSM2 mist in the mornings after the Simple toner, and the Osmosis Boost in the evenings. I don't think of them as toners though. More like watery serums 🤷‍♀️

    • @MadAboutSkin
      @MadAboutSkin  3 роки тому +2

HAHA no judgement here hun as I dont mind the simple toners, the soothing one has some good actives in it and the hydrating one is simple but if it works for your skin then i would keep using it for sure.. I love the NIOD SDSM, I agree with you, I think it is more of a serum in water form than a toner as it has so so many benefits though you could use it as a standalone toner if you wanted.. @@MadAboutSkinwell I'm keeping on keeping on if you on own what I mean. I'm high risk for the dreaded lurgy and I'm losing the plot looking at the same four walls but other than that I can't complain! I'm amusing myself shopping online for skincare. I have to admit I'm using a ton of products at the moment but it's only because I love testing new things and I'm impatient. My skin has never looked so good. Now I can't change the acne scarring although it has improved but other then that I've had so many compliments lately I'm 34 now and the first time anyone has complimented me on my skin was last month! As for toners though, I have also just ordered the etude house soon jung toner along with a couple ot the other soon Jung products in the line. I hope all is well for yourself, family and friends also. Loving every one of your videos. They're a good time for me too as I'm in uk too (east Yorkshire) 🤗

I don’t use toners very often, when I tried to challenge myself to use it straight for a month, I didn’t really feel the difference. Maybe it’s related to taking other quite moisturizing steps?
Is there any way to ask you to explain in a following video something specific about some skin concerns? 🤔

I am all about toners with a purpose. I’ve used Paula’s choice toner and Paula’s BHA and notice a big difference when I use one at a time vs together. I believe it does take the active ingredients to the next level to help the skin. Can’t do without it now with this aging skin 😀
