My father was a World War Two Coast Guard seaman. He worked as part of an all Coast Guard crew on a Navy Troop transport, the USS Wakefield. He was wounded when the Japanese bombed them in Singapore. He had met many Navy Submariners during his travels, and he told me as a young lad many years ago that the Sub guys used to tell him they could only go down to a specified depth underwater. He was told that if they went below a certain level, the sub could implode like a paper bag, because of the pressure. If parts are not made to withstand ocean deep sea pressure, no submersible can survive. This tragedy involving the Titanic expedition was unavoidable once the responsible owners lost respect for the sea, and carelessness caused this disaster.

James Cameron went deeper than the depths of the titanic but he had a bunch of experts helping him create a vessel that withstand the pressure. If I were a billionaire like them, believe me I would do some research about different companies that were successful in the past with many years of experience. It's like getting a surgery, I would want to do a research on the doctor that is going to perform the procedure. Two of them were experts in diving. I mean, I'm not an expert but the minute I saw that vessel I thought there's no way i would get in that thing.

the Titanic is a gravesite and should be respected as such - not a 'for profit' making amusement site for those with enough money who want to 'go see' its and those 1,000+ who lost their lives resting site - 5 more lives have now been added - authorities should ban the area as a "tourist" site allowing only credentialed researchers near it, so that another tragedy like this never happens again -

During wars, many go permanently “missing” when they’re right next to the explosion of a large caliber shell or bomb. Their bodies are basically vaporized in a millisecond and they feel zero pain. There’s nothing left to recover. That is likely what happened to these unfortunate submariners due to the incredible force of an implosion at that depth.

    • @Robert-gb7ex

@@dmvo_johnny7648 Nope, military doctors using simple logic: There’s a known time delay for pain receptor’s signals to go to the brain and be recognized. There’s a known time frame for most modern weapon’s explosions to occur. The latter is much faster than the former, even allowing for variations around what’s typical in both cases. It’s not even close.
It’s true you can react to pain even before your brain fully recognizes it. But suffering is usually defined as awareness. And even the body’s unconscious reaction is slower than a modern chemical explosion.
Watch videos of implosions of steel rail car tanks, which occur with differences in pressures far less than that in the deep ocean. You only have to descend about 33 feet for water pressure to equal all the pressure of the tens of thousands of feet of air above us squeezing our bodies at sea level.

Just wanted to throw this out there, the University of Washington did in fact have involvement with the development, design, and testing of the materials used in the vessel. They tested the materials in their applied sciences lab a few years ago. Their statement denying any involvement is outright false.
The team were aware of water penetration in the materials from their testing, but they did not have prior testing information to go off of because of this “carbon fibre” submersible material had never been attempted before. They took the risk from these facts, ignored the signs from testing in the lab, and unfortunately experienced failure. Condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims.

I worked on carbon fiber pressure vessels in the aerospace busines in SoCal. At those pressures (~5,500PSI), given the brittle failure mode of carbon fiber composites, the implosion was over (microseconds) long before signals could travel across the passengers' neurons from their sense organs to their brains (milliseconds). So they never even experienced the implosion since their brains were destroyed long before their brains could notice anything (and there are no pain receptors in the human brain). So it was a painless death for them. Still, it was another major example of wasteful techbros (and their super-rich clients) which people idolize, abusing and discarding what remains of Western Civilization for the sake of their own hubris. "Humans. What bastards."

    • @TonyGModesto
      @TonyGModesto Рік тому +2

‘How did the sub simply implode?’
Because it was a poorly built submarine under two miles of water, which is a ton of pressure. A hull breach (which probably happened through the window, which was unrated for the depths they were in) causes an implosion.

I don't feel sorry for them at all. I feel sorry for the 15,000 people that die from starvation every single day, globally. They could have been feeding starving children all over the world with the amount of money they paid for that trip. But this is the "ME ME ME ME ME" generation that doesn't give a f*ck about those that are less fortunate.
And OceanGate could have spent all of the money *they* made doing pressure testing on the sub and getting it properly certified, but no, it's all about "ME ME ME ME ME" and *MY* money.
Everybody complains about how long it's been taking Elon Musk to *test* his rockets but how many people have died during a SpaceX launch?
    Zero.
One single Starship/booster exploded and how many people were *ON* it?
    Zero.
