When I was younger I used to. Think the hst had jet engines in them the noise when they are accelerating from a station and at speed no train will ever replace these iconic engines
being up close to a valenta engined hst class 43 is the best experience in the world, when i waz like 4 i loved listening 2 th hiss as th first engine passed me and then th hiss after th whole train passed
@@ashleyjiscool not quite true. The 125 group are installing a valenta in one of their power cars, and they also have a vp185 power car. Also, the entire fleet of Australian xpt trains are still vp185 powered....and of course the prototype power car is valenta powered.
Bullet and other high speed electric trains are all well and good, but you can't beat Diesel Grunt for your primary power source, especially with a single huge Turbo Charger giving you that jet engine scream. Quiet is no fun. I've you've got the power, let people know. I'd like to shake the hand of the engineer who got this off the drawing board and into production. " Sound must match 'Function' " 40 years getting the business done. I used to have an MGB, with a few mods to the exhaust, no middle box, straight through rear box, larger than standard bore, naughty but nice. Didn't go any faster, but what a sound. Drove it, day in day out, summer and winter, for over 12 years, every single trip a pleasure. Valenta Driver, that would have been my ideal job! My place of work is a stones throw from a certain main line and not that far out from a station. The Pendolinos ain't no Valentas, but I can appreciate the acceleration! I suppose we'll be talking about them when they go extinct...
no you are not, in 1985 1986 I worked at leicester station london road box, every time these wonderfull engines left the station it sent shivers up my spine in fact I have the cassette somewhere of my working the signal box
Oh me too. Absolutely terrified for my eardrums when one thundered through! Now it is beautiful. I'm just glad east Midlands railway still use the next best thing.
When they kicked off from the station you couldn’t hear yourself think for twenty minutes 🤣😂 that NOISE was so high from the engines .... As a kid they scared the hell outta me ..... We went on one as a treat to York from London way back the train fare £25 First class to see family members so our backs were towards one of the engines the buzz was amazing.... MANY MEMORIES 👍🏽
I agree that the Valenta's sound much better than the MTU (which itself doesnt sound bad, but not a patch on the val). Just a shame that the only company with Valenta's is Grand Central - still made my recent trip to York on 1 a great day out!!!
I used to love hearing these leave a station when I was at school. The local station was just next to the school. During break and lunch, a few of us stood watching them leave. Beautiful colours of the GNER travelling from London King X up the now LNER line
My old secondary school was next to the Great Western main line near Maidenhead and they passed through at full speed. The sound was close to biblical.......
losing the valentas was as bad as losing v10 in f1. Quietly spoken trains are not trains. They should represent power and longevity that required the engineers touch and ear to get the best.
turbo charger whistle , nothing beats it , music to thr ears , could listen to it all day , what a wonderful pastime .,, yahoo all you train buffs im so jealous .............

I also used to think the same thing aswell that the Intercity 125 Valenta HSTs had jet engine in them. Lol
Flying through Didcot parkway. I'm 42 and travel frequently London from. The sound and smell, memories

Wow, superb! Sadly that magnificent sound will not be with us much longer...
In 2021 the vlenta and vp185 is not with us anymore

The brilliant piece of the UK engineering. Designed and proudly made in England.

Pure magic and Britain at its best building our own trains. Put these back on our lines.

Absolutely brilliant video! Some great noise being produced from those fantastic engines! Thoroughly enjoyed the scream on this one!
I used to sometimes get the Virgin HST from MK Central to London Euston.
Great collection, good sound

3:09 is just beautiful.
Oh My. I remember when FGW HSTs were like this #orgasmicnoise
are there nay hst's still with the Valenta engine or have they all been replaced?
The window of the train make me 🤮
Old trains make me like to vomit I don't like it
Shocking quality. Pointless posting. Div.
These clips were taken between 1996 and 2007. The quality will not be the same. However, it’s not pointless, so stop complaining on the internet
