What a tremendous success these 125s have been...built as a stopgap in the event that the APT was not ready for service they transformed the railways. They reflect great credit on the men that designed and built them .British Engineering at its very best ,(and they sound terrific)
Agreed. Kenneth Grange also did a fine job redesigning the prototype into the stunning design that still looks good 40+ years later. When you think how awesome this "temporary" train is, it makes you wonder if the APT was a success how awesome that train would have been too. The Class 91 225s are great trains too although not as iconic, it's sad that the HST and the Class 91s are the last of the great British built trains.
7:20 and the ones afterwards sound the best. Must be something about the way the sound carries on a clear day. Takes me back to watching them as a kid.

Fantastic, great how the drivers acknowledge and wave or blast the horn.
The last one sounded the best with the build up of the revs before the full power take off.

Fabulous MML footage
7:54 is why I loved Valenta that rear sound.
Brilliant! Love the screams on these.
Fantastic vid thanks
Legends right there..
My right ear loved this
Even includes a Intercity Swallow Class 47 on a Virgin Cross Country service probably to Newcastle or Scotland.
I appreciated the 47 too, they are great locos.
125 for the win

Noisy smelly nowadays inefficient but the,Valetna was the best engine ever in these for the power and sound.
