The important part of this video isn't the tilt or the underhook. You learn those somewhere between white and blue belt if you play half guard. The real treasure that makes this a more intermediate video is that, if he wants to take his opponent left, he drives right first to get his opponent to pressure into the tilt. Great video!

I love half guard and this past summer one of my coaches showed me how to use the tilt to get the underhook from the smash. It has been a great addition. These details are awesome.

Awesome video!! I think the foot + hook positioning on @2:03 is an incredible smart detail that prevents the adversary from moving back.

That's the must know half guard move. That's the move I teach students when they come to me for half guard advise.
From now on, I should just send your video, so much better and detailed explanation.

As the smaller guy at our gym, I find myself in bottom/halfguard regularly…prolly because my full guard is trash. This was super helpful.
On an aside, may I ask what gi that is?

This is awesome. Sometimes I get in this position and I do a pathetic version of this tilt sweep...but then I get head and arm choked. Is there something to prevent that?

Wow, I usually see your face and immediately just get this hatred boiling in me because It's always some awful facebook short video, but you seem really chill and knowledgeable when you're actually teaching stuff. It's like you're a real person or something. lol
