Hi Randy, That hole in the tire well is not only on Pre Tag cars but also present on Manx 1 bodies with ID tags. I was a piece of tape used to cover up a hole in the mold. After the fibreglass set, they would take an air chuck and blow air in through that hole to release the body from the mold. When the body was sold new it would not have had a hole drilled into it like this one. This was probably done to aid drainage in the tire well. Another detail is that Pre Tag bodies and Manx 1 bodies are actually that same body. The only difference being, Bruce added front and rear badges and an ID tag to them. This is a nice looking survivor in a great color. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info Rich! That makes sense, I cant imagine it would have been a whole different mold just for the tagged ones... Always something new to learn about these cars!
Love it! My first love as far as cars go. I had a yuma yellow pedal car circa 1971-2. Then Speed Buggy came out and I was hooked! Unfortunately living in central Illinois and after a lifetime of poor health I was never able to fulfill that dream. Thanks for sharing these as it brings back great memories!
Gread video. I built a buggy, with an old body (Canadian copy) I bought. I am amazed, beside the tube underneath, and the shape over the engine, they look pretty close. Mine was also yellow gel coat, but was so far gone, I had to repaint it. It will never be as desirable and rare as a Manx, but it's so much fun to drive. Just love this thing.
So very well done video . Informative even if you are not a VW freak . To bad you didn't show the car with the hard top on . I have seen that before and really changes the look of the car . All for the good ...
Awesome buggy ! Mine is a pre tag 68 on a 64 pan... been on registry since 2002...plastic dash is hanging on my wall because it was cut up pretty good when i bought it ,but glad i kept it and also the aluminum top frame Thanks for sharing Randy
Wow this buggy took me back over 50 years to a time that I built model cars one after another! I got a model of this car molded in yellow plastic! I believe it was an AMT kit. I wish I had kept all of my collection but I gave them to a younger friend and him and some other kids blew them all up with firecrackers!
They were always so fun to blow up! I was the kid that would scoop up all the broken parts and half built kits and build scrap models all day long. I had this big wooden barrel that was full of car parts. I’d dump it out and build one freaky car after the next. Very fond memories of all that.
I did skip the engine didn’t I ? My apologies! It’s a basic stock 1600cc VW engine , nothing spectacular. If you are in the market of a real Manx, I normally post updates and pics of all the ones we are working with on Instagram under the user name @mogthemanx
So I have one of these I'm a teen and I want to fix it there nothing really wrong with it but it left in the weather for alittle but I can't figure out what year or anything about it
A lot of Manx buggies went back east actually , but obviously weather kept a lot of them indoors for much of their lives. As a result, some of the best survivors have come from the east and Midwest .
Wow what another great find , could u tell me if any of the original pre tag or early tag buggy bodies were sold in the UK in the 1960s , also wondering where Bruce's old red is today does Winnie still own it or did it go to the new owners of the Manx company ? Thanks kev
I don’t know when the first bodies were exported , but with roughly 1400 pre-tag bodies produced, I could certainly see the possibility of some coming to the UK. Old Red I believe is in the hands of Meyers Manx LLC at this point, or at least is in their care. It was seen at some major car events and museums this past year and will continue to be used as a tool to promote the brand and tell the story of Bruce Meyers.
I certainly appreciate this video and would like to see a definitive list of what to check to confirm if a pre-tag manx is legitimate or not. anyone know of such a list other than sending to Winnie? Thanks!

Lovel vintage stock, great walk around and reveal on the insides of these classics. Thanks for the share.
amazing randy.. never get tired of looking at your buggies!
I’m loving seeing the progress on your builds!!

Always love the Meyers Manx. Nice one.
Excellent video! You speak very clearly and accurately. I have a pre-tag Manx and had to run out and find a little tape rectangle. Pretty cool!

One of my top 10 favorite cars
Nice review on the Manx, btw, the lab is looking great 👍👍
Thanks Mike! It’s such a joy to work in as well! I’m lovin it!
Love these Myers Manx! Thank you 😊
Stunning 🤩. Clean and simple as they should be 😎
Beautiful buggy, thank you for uploading. You didn't mention the engine. I would certainly be in the market for a genuine Meyers Manx.

Having grown up in So-Cal in the seventies these dune buggies were all over. Lots of Beetles made the ultimate sacrifice.
It’s true, a lot of Beetles made the sacrifice, but I like to think their souls continue and greatly enjoy the wild and free buggy life!
I was born in Anaheim in the late 60's, I remember seeing them as a little boy. I always liked them, especially when we were near the beach.
Thank you can never get enough !
Good information..thank for making the video
Glad it was helpful!
Nice Buggy! Sapito!
Beautiful survive. Hope the new owner enjoys it.
Learned a lot. Now I know what I’m looking for when I see some for sale on marketplace 😃
Clean lab! 👌🏼😎
Oh and it was SO nice to work in today! Just magic!
Growing up we had a Manx, in my 20s I had one also. Should have hung onto them…
So I have one of these I'm a teen and I want to fix it there nothing really wrong with it but it left in the weather for alittle but I can't figure out what year or anything about it
I didn’t know who’s video this was the lab looks so clean!! I love those but I don’t think I can ever have one in Pennsylvania

Thanks for the video my manx is definitely original pre tag car then
Don’t take my word for it, nothing is guaranteed until it is certified by Winnie Meyers ! Send her your pics and details!!

@@Carchaeology thanks 👍
Great video! What size tires and wheels are on that buggy? Particularly the rear? Where can I get them?
Lucky new owner.
Great car. How wide would you say should the rear 15 inch nad the front 14 inch wheels be?
I certainly appreciate this video and would like to see a definitive list of what to check to confirm if a pre-tag manx is legitimate or not. anyone know of such a list other than sending to Winnie? Thanks!
Just send it to Winnie!! Without the certificate, whatever you tell people will be debated and questioned. A small investment for a very large reward.
Hay, i have a unidentified manx that has a few of your featers but I just can't tell and I am wondering about registering and fixing it
We have a buggy made of fiberglass red with a black solid fiberglass roof too . Would like to have more information on what we have to insure it
Email me pics at bugnbox@earthlink.net and I will try to help if I can!
Dig that Yuma Yellow!
It’s just so freakin happy! 😄
Where did you get those coco floor mats?
Wolfsburg West
Have the same car same colour scheme, where are the seats from ?
Do you have images of this Manx with the hard top fitted?
Nothing that I can post here easily...but I could email you one if desired.
I haven't got one for sale
Ok then
What's the blue/grey ride next to it?
1949 Tatraplan
Who did the upholstery?
A really nice guy in Temecula named Alphonso , knocked it out of the park, very nice work!
👍👍👍
How much do they sell for?
Watch the whole video and find out! 😂
Its the beginning of a great dream lol
Wrong exhaust according to Bruce Meyers. And I like the style of the Genuine Meyers Sidewinder exhaust.
