Victor armed to the teeth and patiently waiting for the elevator while a gunfight is going on downstairs feels like a scene from a Tarantino movie
I absolutely got the exact same expression today.
this whole series could be a terrific tarantino series
@@ldmblog This whole damn scene would be awesome. Two different soundtracks though would have to be going on as it cuts between the different Kindred.
With Vampires...
So From Dusk 'till Dawn but reversed perspective?
@@futtynucker5278 More like Kill Bill.
victor doesnt get the praise he should, he played his character masterfuly, many times creating a perfect storyflow
fataxel he ´s my favorite!
Not to mention he's the glue, driving force and honestly the father -figure. But agreed, MASTERFULLY done
Agrees.
Victor was great, but was just getting upstaged by Jasper and Chaz.
I agree. I definitely don't think he's being upstage by Jasper if anything the three (Jasper, Nelli and Victor) fit together well. They function as a unit that don't overshadow each other at all it was that aspect that drew me in although I do think Nelli could speak just a tad more. But I'm starting to get sick of Annabelle calling him a bad dad and evil which he doesn't seem to address and it's becoming a theme.
He's doing what's necessary to keep his sons safe, that's Dad of the year to me.
Anabelle is my least favorite character.
Annabelle calling Nelli mom and then insuring her she's a MiLF was great
What is MiLF?
That is something that can be goggled
@@flamingkitten1 *googles it*
...OOoooohh- I get it! Thank you xD
This comment and subsequent replies, though, LOL
@Tanny Pope I like the idea of insuring someone's MiLF-ness though.
Applause to Jason Carl for his timing in changing between the characters. Both in the action scenes and in the storytelling.
Absolutely. I was observing the very same thing. He has been doing such a seamless and wonderful job the whole time!!
He's got the best sense of pacing of any GM i've ever seen. It's masterful, always keeps the story moving.
Agreed. VtM doesn't have an "initiative" order ala d&d so how Jason Carl flows between scenes and combat order is masterful. The players too, *for the most part*, try not to step on each other's toes and let others have the spotlight.
@@MsYunaFires that's what I was going to say. The players also allow themselves to flow into the story. It's remarkable from both sides, because if he had to deal with interruptions everytime such flow would not exist.
I cracked up when they mentioned AOL: I've been using the same email since 1997!
I may be a D&D guy, but I'm an rpg guy above all else. This is absolutely DRIPPING in atmosphere, inventiveness, trust in the performers and the GM. Thank you so much for taking us on this journey.
Thank you for sharing the story with us!
@@JasonCarl you and the rest of the team are amazing 👏 😎
D&D is RP lite compared to The World of Darkness IP….at least in my experience…
X and Annabelle's relationship is everything. Annabelle crying in his arms while X tries to cheer her up with a metaphor about bullsh*t. Just beautiful.
or a simile, one of the two
Building on the "family dynamic," X is the weird cousin.
So true. Lol
I feel like he and jasper would seem to get along and just Go At eachother
Or like the younger brother who is either ask strange questions or having a breakdown.
The weird bohemian cousin who grows his own "medication" while slinging molly to the college kids.
X is either the weird cousin or jaspers weird BF
"And I active awe" is slowly becoming a catchphrase of this show
If you got it, flaunt it.
@@morganrobinson8042 no no, vampire daddy

"Have you tried turning awe off and on again?"
Ever heard this one before? A Malkav and a Torri walk into an club ...
and wreck the place, while the Bruha did the talking ♥
I did expect the Spanish Inquisition.
Lawful Stupid Bruja caught me off guard though.
(Erica is awesome, and she's crafting a great character, but that aspect will give people flashbacks to LG=LS characters).
@@Cormalek Annabelle may be dangerously naive and idealistic, but she would 100% be in the CG corner of the D&D alignment system. Lawful stupid would be pretty much the complete opposite extreme to a rebellious anarch bruja.
And the Ventrue is busting caps left and right.
Reversed of roles
Victor was the star here. He masterfully manipulated the baron into getting his own territory. Territory that he had NO business getting - when his own turf was so readily assaulted in teh middle of another baron's territory. Very well played.
Also, huge praise for the descriptive way in which Nelli maneuvered around, and attacked. That wall climbing was so perfectly described, I could picture it clearly. Well done
Josh Butterfield yeah the way Nelli, Victor and Jasper compliment each other is awesome. I know most in the comments favour Jasper but Victor's mine. Though he should definitely work on his fathering skills tbh lol
@@tkschaaf7096 he can't right... He can't...

@@EmeraldDreams7 Im as straight as they come, but i would spread em for ole Jasper lmaoooo.
man, you just can see Jason's love for vampire the masquerade, world of darkness and storytelling in general. really great job as storyteller. 10/10
Yeah really comes through the way he constructs the story. I really wish I had seen this when it was brand new but you make choices in life and Alpha wasn't a priority. Anyway you just see how elated he is as he tells the story. It's like a kid in a candy store... with incendiary handguns.
You can also see that he is actually a vampire
He’s a master storyteller. He draws them all in, and makes it clear for all of them: this is *their* story, that they are the stars in. To the point where we don’t see Erika Ishiee, B. Dave Walters, Cynthia Marie, or Alexander Ward. You see Annabelle, Victor Temple, Nelli G, and Jasper. It’s beautifully done.
It isn't just that he loves it.. He's the producer of the 5th edition
he's such a good dm, I love listening to him describe the scene, I can picture it so clearly and it's just so well done.
"That's ... that's fine ... we can work with bullshit ... right? You can ... mould it into things ... make little statues ... they smell bad ... but you could you could ... collect them?" - the genius of X
Bro I found this as it played and yea it was
I love how jason actually cracked up at the "he gets it from his daddy" joke
Honestly, they 'all' play their characters masterfully. Also, holy shit is Jason an amazing DM. His Pace, his foreshadowing, his subtlety, his ability to nuance things in a way that remains true to the tone he's set, and above all, he knows when to tell the story and when to allow the players to do it. Dude is a legend.
Too kind, thank you! But I'm glad you are enjoying our story!
@@JasonCarl I honestly was blown away after watching two episodes. Wasn't sure it would be my thing but the collective group of you guys makes it impossible not to enjoy it. I know so many people fanboy over Jasper and he is truly great at the role of Nossie, but I feel like Victor is a great Ventrue too
Victor is definitely my overall favorite in LA By Night. Nellie is a veeeeery very close second. :)
My god, X with the incineration vomit... that's metal asf
So amazing! He's so many steps ahead in his performances. Everything ends up having a reason &a beautifully chaotic pattern.
Is this a 7th gen Pokemon attack?
I know right?! Was really surprised this epic stunt didn't get more attention from the parents table, it was magnificent!
As soon as he saw the grease I knew exactly what he was going to do because it's exactly what I would've done it.
DJ Tummytroubles!
Gotta say, after an initial period of disappointment with Jasper being subbed out for X, I really ended up growing to love the character. He is played with tasteful restraint, walking that thin line between absurdity and "humanity." I feel like it's so easy for Malkavians to just be played as obnoxiously insincere, shallow tricksters, and therefore impossible to relate to on a dramatic level. Nothing about X feels patterned or one-note. He brought a range of dramatic qualities (lightness, gravity, humor, absurdity) just as they were needed, like some sort of emotional bard.
A part of me wants to guess that X had some kind of mental disability before he was turned, something that can cloud focus at times.
@MindOfGenius happens quite often in the clan. In my local LARP we had one called Gummybear, wearing a tutu and talking to the couch as their best friend. They were only clear, when they had a premonition and then instantly went back to completely disconnected from reality. It was SO fun!
same for me and Jasper being subbed but def glad he comes back. X was a nice fill in or guest player though. All the guests so far have been amazing :)
Exactly. Too many people play Malkavians as wacky chaotic neutral characters who screw over their own party "for the lulz". It's inconsiderate of the other people at the table, and makes light of real life mental illness.
I love Jasper, but Xander is an amazing Roleplayer also. He's good in everything he plays, check out relics and rarities. He plays Ricky flawlessly.
"the moment he calls me dad i kill them"
Yo, victor is hard core and my total favorite

Aaah. That GM humor. Calm and collected, completely in the role, even when delivering the punchline. Priceless.
Question: How long is gm talking with guest stars before session? It is OUTRAGEOUS how all players feel as a part of this world. Keep it up
It varies. Sometimes we get the luxury of a few days to discuss their NPCs, sometimes it is as little as a couple of hours. It's a real testament to the skill of these players how well it all works! :)
Annabelle is amazing. But there's something about her that screams more than one clan. Is that even possible?
@@juliataylor707 no, not within the context of Vampire: The Masquerade. This might help: vampires are individuals first, and clans second. The clans provide a very useful set of archetypes, but they aren't rigid. Annabelle is a Brujah, but she's Annabelle before all else. :)

Haven't completely caught up with this series yet but I am very worried for Victor, he has been handing out favors like candy and sooner or later those debts are going to come due.
Keep in mind that if an in-debt vampire is killed, all their debts go to the killer. So, in a way, Victor's debts might also be his unlife-insurance policy.

Jason, if eventually Geek and Sundry pulls out this amazing support for World of Darkness, it would not be a bad idea, if you have the time and desire, to use your own channel to upload new vampire (or WOD) campaigns. You're the best narrator that I've seen. All the best!
Ricback2 I'm pretty sure it won't be hard to get a crowdfund going for Jason to continue a vampire the Masquerade campaign should Geek and Sundry decide to pull out. Or even one of the other world of Darkness games. Still the fans are going to want to see more of of his talent. I know I do.
Just Vampire?
Werewolf the Apocalypse and Mage the Ascension are brilliant games to bring to the table as well. And a great asset for developing the new storylines for these games would be to have recurring characters from Vampire the Masquerade involved in them as either allies or antagonists (whether they're known to be vampires or not).
@@bigollameo honestly I'd like to see him continue vampire. I'm absolutely sure he be amazing at werewolf( I will admit I've never played mage ) however I'm sure that there are other storytellers that would like to take a stab at those specific games. Jason is just too damn good for Vampire and splitting his talent amongst 2 other games, whilst I believe he could handle it that is a lot to put on someone's plate. All I know is that I get burnt out if I try to play more than one game at once. That's just me though.
@@bigollameo he's not another Matt Mercer. Apples and oranges man. Or in this case sweet rolls and blood bags. Matt Mercer is great because of his high energy and his ability to throw in NPCs on a whim Jason is great because of his aloofness and your complete inability to read him. I mean don't get me wrong he's great with the Tactical aspects as well but just blank and that's what you want with any world of Darkness game GM.
@@rayruckus4446 True that. I should have just said we have a glimpse of another grandmaster of DMing emerging in Jason's work and whose alternative storytelling method - a highly-aware interactive style that blends with the dark atmosphere of the game using an austere, restrained, and eerily distant personal affect - is beginning to approach the level of technical performance we expect from Geek and Sundry's/Critical Role's flagship program.
I love how playful Nelli G and Victor are together. They are so comfortable in eachothers' presence.
When Jason first spoke out as Nick, I *SWEAR* I could hear Bertram Tung. Even looking away from the monitor, I could just *know* "oh yeah, that's a Nosferatu"...

That moment Annabelle said her reasons for loving Los Angeles... this ‘city of angels’. It was nothing short of role play beauty. And she’s right. It’s a city of angels, a city of dreams. It was beautifully done how Victor and Nelli reacted to her as well, realizing that this fledgling kindred is far more intelligent and wise than they peg her to be.
Ramona: Don’t you think this city feeds on dreams? Feeds on those people. Sinks it’s fangs into them and drains them of their hopes and their inspirations? You don’t think this city is just as much of a vampire as we are?
Annabelle: It’s a ouroboros. It’s the snake that eats it’s tail and begins anew every time. Those dreams? They feed into the city. And they feed into dreams. It’s a city of angels...
Even the dreams that don’t make it can still stand proud. Why? Because they can at least say they tried. That they had a hand to play. They can move on to the next challenge, the next dream with no regrets of ‘should have’ and ‘what if’s’.
And Victor’s moments with his son Isaiah? I give major props to B.Dave Walters. He played the character of the ‘estranged’ father quite well. Trying to still succeed in a part of his life where many would say he failed. Another awesome session with our vampires. Starting to see more and more sparks of humanity. Let’s keep this going and go to the next one. =)

This series is the reason I just bought like 5 books, a story teller screen, set of d10 of multiple colors including blood die.
I’m so excited to start the vampiric story my friends and I get to tell next.
Fantastic session, X with that projectile fry station was so awesome, Victor becoming Baron, Nelli G. dropping the ceiling on the baddies, Annabelle punching Nick in the gut and keeping X somewhat sane, and all the roleplaying... Man! And Jason, rolling with the punches with unflinching prowess, I'm very impressed.

The characters are all played beautifully. For one thing Annabelle slingshots back and forth between super sweet, and infuriatingly irrational.
X: "Good thing you have a backup relationship"
A: "It doesn't work like that."
I'm poly as well, and really get how A is feeling at that moment.
Okay, commenting at around the 1:25:00 mark because Erika is great. I just need to say it, she is really good at this. Just her suddenly having this crying fit after everything's been said and done
I'm wondering if X prefers sleepy victims because it makes the blood have a sedative type quality. As a way to help medicate his condition
"Everybody fights!" A Gangrel quoting Starship Troopers. And the title, from Tolstoy I assume, also fits so well.

I like how they're weaving in world building into the story without putting the action on hold. The conversation that the Kindred have with each other really highlight their relationships, motives and so forth. That said, I got so confused when they mentioned Vannevar. I had already forgotten about the, oh uh, PRINCE they spoke of in the last episode. But I liked the Baron's reaction, it was great. Man, this world is so rich. I love it.
See, this is what I mean about X. At the end, with X saying he has some information for Baron Therese. The sneaky guy acts crazy but its mostly an act. Hes certainly acting as a spy for her so what will X report to her. The intrigue deepens.
That's how most Malkavians work. To a lot of people they are just crazy or speak in riddles buy generally know FAR more then most. In Vtm:B the malkavian player character has dialogue that masked by riddles and flowery language says how the game ends
Like in the first hour of the game
@@dahliasdarkside1695 Malkavians can be described as supersane. Another example of supersanity (at least in one interpretation) is the Joker. Annabelle collapsing into X's arms for comfort is unexpectedly wholesome
I know I'm years late. I decided to pick up this series because I saw the BLM clips from much later and figured I should give the earlier part of the series a shot. Absolutely loving it. Every player plays their character with such conviction it's incredible, with barely any moments of them dropping their roles. And there's something uniquely wonderful about Jason Carl's methodical, deliberate narration and construction of the set pieces. None of his characters are whacky or super memorable, but the world he's crafting just oozes modern society with a gothic backdrop. I'm hooked.

A: It's like my greatest fantasy and my worst nightmare smashed together!
X: Good thing you have a backup relationship...
I was about to start typing “Victor has ambitions on...” then it happened.
Nice.
Great to see Annabelle FINALLY get her Brujah on.
I came back to watch this episode again and I've gotta say - X eating lard to carry a stomach's worth back out to the conflict is one of the best, most inhuman utilitarian moves I've seen a Cainite pull in any game of VtM.
Something curious - Nelli G keeps using a blood sorcery ritual. Blood Sorcery isn't a *typical* discipline for Toreador. Shouldn't this clue in her coterie (except maybe Annabelle) that something is up with her? (The viewer knows she's committed diablarie, but that might not be the explanation.)
ohhhhh ok that makes sense. I was wondering how she kept using rituals as a Tory. Completely forgot she commit diablerie
@@dvol8138 could be that her Sire knows Blood Sorcery and passed on to her
She did commit diablerie, but it was on another Toreador of her generation, I believe. So I think she learnt it some other way.
The performance of the Malkavian is outstanding. Often they are played in a very annoying way but that guy really nailed it. They seem to have changed a lot since first and second edition though. Is there no soak roll anymore ? Lots of changes. No bloodpool either as it seems. But I like it,
I love theatre of the mind and the cast for this show is amazing.
Loved it when X said, "I play the French Horn."
Me and my 2 month old son are watching the whole series and he likes to “talk” to the players. Keep this going. Loving it!!!
Glad you and he are enjoying it! Thanks for being part of our #vamily!
Jason Carl you are a hell of a GM. Wish I was a better vampire GM so I could do run Vampire. I run games at a local convention and I think they would enjoy it. Maybe next year.
@@seanmontgomery3181 thank you! I am super fortunate to have this cast to help my storytelling along, and to have a long of experience running Vampire. Our styles evolve and grow stronger over time, so the more you GM the better you'll become. :)
Eww, that Nosferatu sounds *disgusting*. You described him so very well, Jason :).
Just started watching. Love the way Jason plays their hunger.
Thank you!
I like how Victor gets some of his property destroyed in every episode :D
at this rate he's gona get bankrupt till the end of the series ...
Fryer oil does not congeal NEARLY that fast.... that oil has not been in use for maybe half an hour at this point in the story..... as someone who has worked in restaurants for my entire working life, I know that fryer oil can go an entire night without congealing at all (at least if it's properly maintained)
Good to know for future X flame vomits, thank you!
