- Опубліковано 8 сер 2024
- A good friend of mine is in the process of swapping his 2012 Camaro Ls from 3.6l V6 to 6.2l V8. This is an amazing project and will be an incredible feat once completed. This is only part 1...part 2 will feature the vehicle cranking and driving as well as a somewhat in-depth review and Q and A with the builder, Marlon.

I wana make v6 to v8 as well lol
@@Chinofreaknasty213 same but i dont wanna spend the money for a 6.2. thought about getting a 6.0 and boring it to 6.2 for wayyyyy cheaper
Can you do a complete parts list for v6 to v8 swap I've got a 2011 Camaro I'm wanting to swap
Props to you guys for upgrading the engine, I truly dislike people who say just trade it.... It's pointless cause you already have the car and its YOUR BUILD to what you find suitable. More power to you guys! I did an engine swap on my 2013 V6 and its paid off... so not trading for a bigger engine lol no more payments
Right on! Yeah man if you have the know-how a swap is definitely worth it. Great since of accomplishment as well and congrats on your swap as well bro!
Bryan Baez how was the swap?
I have an 11 how is it to swap as far as what mods you have to do?
How was the swap and how much it cost you ?
Amen brother and that's what we are going to do to my mom's 2010 Camaro RS when her V6 goes out.
I'm doing the same swap at the moment, not as hard as everyone says or makes it out to be, I like when people comment just trade it in on an ss...I like the challenge
How much did it cost and what did u do with the transmission
So I think Im going to buy a new engine but I wanna go from auto to manual and like I’m not the best mechanic or much no I’m barely learning from my dad but any challenges I should look Foward for?
I going to get a 2014 camaro v6 with bad engine can you tell about wiring and ecu swap is hard
Did you use the factory kmember
Awesome , please post more info on problems associated with swap, your the first video and I thank you.
Nice job- I have a black 2012 v6 manual 6- want' n to do same thing- they all said it couldn't be done- I say b.S. - you Guys did it - great just great !!! I love it -
ok so im wanting to do the same with my v6 camaro im dropping a LS3 and transmission do i need to replace anything else besides clutch flywheel such as brakes, differential etc....
2013 chevy v6 camaro rs
When you swap to ss engine what else did you replace too?
Hey did you remove the engine v6 from the top
Of the car? I’m trying to replace my engine with another v6.
Hello my motor just blew in my 2013 camaro rs i was wondering if the v8 trans and the 6.2 bolted up to the same motor mounts
in this swap, do you have to switch rear end, driveshaft, ecu/ecm?
I bought a 2013 camaro LS for 10,000 (currently paid off) and my insurance is $98 a month lol, I knew at the end of the day that I could always drop a L99 or LS3 engine in my maro to make it a V8 instead of putting myself in more debt by trading it in for another stock camaro and having to start all over again. Love your channel bro bro!
What insurance do you have?
How did you installed and is it gonna fit for V8? cuz I feel the engine seat or base would install for stock engine 🤔
Hey I’m not sure if you still have this UA-cam acc but how did it cost you to ls3 swap this camaro and did you have to change any suspension or anything due to weight difference
Did you ever finish the car and does it still run?
I'm looking into getting a V6 and swapping out to a 496 bbc with a t56 magnum I have. Are V6 suspension mods the same as v8 mods? Websites always specify whether V6 or v8.
The date is July 16, 2016 and people we have first start up. I know we're 2 months overdue but give me a few more days and I should have a video out for you guys to see. Its been a process .... Thanks for being patient thumbs up this comment for people to see.
Yes would like to know more about parts used to complete job
What’s did you use for motor mounts please helplll
I swapped a 2001 8.1 Vortec BBC into my 2010 5th Gen Camaro, helluva job, but OMG what a monster 💀!
Nice!! That car is a beast now!
Yep! It is definitely getting there.
Just wondering did u try to bolt the ay6 to the ls ?
Did you installed other computer?? Or original work on New v8 ?
Can you give me the list for the swap man?
Did you have to change the wire harness
I was thinking about changing my v6 into a v8, I just need to know if it would be easier to do since i have an Automatic.
I couldn't say for sure if you can get everything flashed over properly to reflect the new drivetrain i dont see it being to bad or of course you could go standalone which would get it done as well. Im not sure of any extras if any you would need.
so I'm going to do the same thing now did you need to get a new wiring harness and everything or is it just plug and play? any info that I'll need will be greatly appreciated. thanks
chris warnick A link to the build thread is in the comments along with a lot of info that Ive given based on questions others have asked. Also check out the other videos regarding this particular build as they hold alot of info as well. The builder can be contacted on camaro5 thru his thread.
Amazing video, I want to do the same thing
I'm interested in this. What did he do far as getting the ecm to communicate with the bcm
Chris Cook check out camaro5 member Marlon1ls ......he has a 17 page thread regarding the build
So you guys put and L99 instead of the LS3 to the Tremec? Is the AFM disabled on the L99?
JIMBO SLICE yes it is the ecu has the maps from the LS3 instead of the L99
Did you use the same computer from the 3.6
Question, did you take motor out the top or threw the bottom of car. I'm removing my engine in my 2010 Camaro and I want to know this information
Took it from the top
Are you selling the v6 headers?
I wanna do the same swap but I’m wondering if I have to replace something also besides trans and the engine
else*
can u just swap the engine and keep the v6 manual tranny ?
Wassup g, when u get a chance can u give a list of the things mandatory to complete this swap.
Or share a link

@@AntaresCam 💯
oh ok cool thats not too bad. and do you happen to know what engine he got? ls99 perhaps
Yeah its the L99 ....should be listed on the video however if you're manual LS3 would be better he only went with L99 because of convenience
Does anyone know if I’m able to put a supercharged 2015 zl1 engine 6.2 LSA to a Camaro 2010 v6 lt?
You can put just about anything into any chassis with enough research and willingness to wrench a bit...or pay someone. You could swap in a 2jz if you wanted to lol. A Camaro is a Camaro, what will fit in one from the factory will fit in another. It would be largely the same as this swap just with additional components including the blower and the necessary plumbing and additional parts for cooling heat exchanger etc... Possibilities are endless with swaps and there are tons of ways to go about it. You could always get a donor car and swap everything over just have to choose the route that works best for you.
Does the V6 manual transmission would Bolt an la engine?
Old comment, but The V6 manual would not be able to take 6.2 torque. It could probably handle a stock 5.3
Did you have to change the transmission or will the ay6 work? And will an ls1 fit in the 5th gen? And will the ay6 fit the ls1?
Lol nah bro transmission is in the video used a tr6060 and v6 trans won't work in either case. Foot print of ls based motors are pretty similar so yes ls1, ls2 , ls7 etc will all fit.
@@AntaresCam thanks for the help, v6 shot a rod a week ago debating on swapping to a v8 or just slapping another 3.6 in it but I’ve never done anything like that before so I’m just really lost 🤦🏾♂️
how much did it cost him? its because im thinking of either swapping out the engine or buying a new one
He is in the 6k ballpark right now he has some parts coming in today hopefully that will finish the build completely even though it runs and drives now.
why didn't you choose the LS3?
Does the v6 exhaust fit the v8? I'm swapping my v6 and putting an ls3 in it
Did you ever end up finishing the swap?
@@Socal_S1k it was way to much work lol. Had to replace the whole dash with wiring and bcm from the v8 to 6. Its better to just buy a v8 than converting a 6 to 8.
@@Lssjg702 how much were they charging ?
I'm curious how much it cost cause I want to do one myself
Chan G Video on my channel breaking down the price ...its a more recent upload
is this thing running yet just spun a bearing in my 10 v6 wanna swap a v8 asap
He is pretty much on the cusp of completion right now he had his new bcm and ecm flashed by the dealer last week and the electonics are in working order ...... however the engine harness that was ordered is not the correct one and thus the bcm is not communicating with the ecm and subsequently the fuel pump isn't priming. The car is attempting to start but right now the idea of modifying the harness or ordering a new one is being debated upon but a decision will be made this week. If its not finished by next week I'll have an update video posted discussing and showing the current state of the build but if it is Ill also have a video of the final build......subscribe for updates.
do u think u could have fit a 572 big block in there?
Im not sure man to be honest although anything is possible with the right skill set and money
is the l99 engine the same as an ss or zl1?
SS comes with L99(auto) or LS3(manual). ZL1 comes with LSA
What did you have to modify to make the v8 fit? What did you do about the communication between the body control modules and the ecm etc? How much room is in the transmission tunnel?
KAnthonyStrick this is what I want to know
felisberto barbosa I went to poking around the internet and it seems the bcu has a wire for tach, speedo, ignition 1 &2, starter, etc pretty much any wire you can save from a stand alone ecu. Im assuming you can get a flash for the bcu and tap into those wires or bypass them completely and do aftermarket gauges etc. As far as everything else, idk.lol
hey did you have to do a lot of wiring? I mean i know the ecu gets swapped but what else
Marlon is currently using a homemade standalone harness so its a little involved but not just a ton of wiring he also purchased a v8 wiring harness and modified that still currently working out the kinks.
Antares Cam Nice. I heard of people making a v8 engine work with the v6 harness. I guess they play with the + - signals input/output and make everything work. But that's time consuming I guess
I mean yeah if you want to go thru modifying the harness thats fine .... cheaper too lol
Hey bro I have some questions. do you have an email or anything I can write you on ?
you said the engine is a L99 with a manual transmission?
I have the L99 in my car and want to put them in a transmission I just wanted to know if you did anything special to it to make it work
Yeah its a manual paired with it ECU would need to be flashed to an ls3 tune in order for it to work properly
I would figure get a completely totaled 2014-2015 Camaro SS low mileage and swap to a 2010 Camaro V6.
Is it possible to seap a v6 for v12? I have a 2015 camaro
Anthony Hernandez its possible will cost u
The price it would cost you're better off keeping the v6 and adding a super charger and turbo kit with a 100 shot of NOS. That's more than enough power. Engine swaps may require a new transmission as well as a suspension and braking and other components
I'm doing the same swap as we speak
What about the ecu did you have to purchase a different computer
Do you think a hellcat tran and motor woyld fit in a v6 2014 camaro. I want a camaro and a hell cat but why not just have both lol
Jacob McElveen lol
OK you should I video of everything you need to get this done I'm thinking of doing the same
Will do.... the car belongs to a good buddy of mine and I plan on having him go over virtually everything including problems and subsequent fixes.
Ball park it what was finale price parts wise?
Its not completely finished he is still getting her just right ball park is around 5 to 6k right now
Ight good luck I was thinking about it for my charger but figured the cost of everything is counter productive of just geting a v8 charger or another car period but can't wait to see you guys finish and it's dope af to see black ppl doing this and not a lot of racist coms on your vids best of luck
I have a 2015 camaro v6 LT
You used same transmission??
Trans is in the video
dose he still have the v6?
No he doesn't
Do you use the v6 transmission
Tr6060 it's in the video
@@AntaresCam thank you I have a 2012 looking at doing a swap as well.
I got a v6 350Z that will rip this one a new one! Let me know if he wants a roll, dig... ill drag that ahh
lol he's down for it
A v6 350Z lol thats funny.
So where is part 2
Check the channel bro
You didnt have to do a rear end swap?
Down the road it'll be beneficial, but nope he still has the v6 rear end installed.
@@AntaresCam ,
Please talk about the ECU you used and the tuning and vats bypass you had to do! Tx
any problems with insurance?
To my knowledge I don't think he has had any problems.
Hey Antares. I had some questions about the swap. I am doing one in my 13. My coworker Bo white told me to hit you up.
This is my friends car I helped and recorded it his ig is tatt2er_kingd3sign if you want to reach out

Can y’all swap mines too? My 2011 v6 engine blew on me 😩😩😢😢
feMARIE614 I’ll buy it
So that Camaro in the beginning of the video had an SS mail slot on the bumper why is that is it's a v6????
redland rider It was a v6 with an aftermarket zl1 bumper w/mailsot
Ty 125 never heard of aftermarket?
Stupid Question from a beginner Car Enthusiast with a Camaro 12' V6: for an exhaust, cat and res delete or just go for a full stainless steal pipe (Pypes). I'm looking at performance not sound. Can't find anyone who would give me statistics in numbers, all they say is "it helps with your performance"
Cali Confirmed that’s because they can’t give you exact dyno numbers. Not all motors are the same even if you have two of the same motors from two of the same car and year, they’d be making slightly different power. Also they don’t put out performance numbers because it depends on your Altitude. The higher the altitude, the lower the performance. But that’s mostly for N/A cars (naturally aspirated, or non boosted motors).
How difficult was this to do?
Speaking from the parts of the build I was present for it wasn't incredibly hard. The hard part was locating parts and because the owner was at the mercy of what was available he had to pair an engine originally paired with auto trans to a manual. The actual drop in was just like any other swap..... the obstacle being faced right now is getting all the computers in sync. If a donar car was available this job would have been considerably simpler and complete but since we have an L99 and a tr6060 we having the L99's computer and a newly bought LS3 computer remapped and flashed in hopes to test and hopefully one will give us the desired results (a cranking and running car) in the next few days
What about motor mounts
Add a little more TECH and a lot less musical noise a nd you have a winner here.
you think you can hook me up i have a v6 and need to change it to a v6
*v8
In what way exactly? Instructions?
Swear to god im thinking hard about it
L99 Facepalm*
6k for the swap ?? Well I guess I'm keeping my little 323 hp v6 till I upgrade to a V8 Camaro . Still I think the car is quick enough for driving around but I do miss my Formula....
knightnrmer 6k is cheap bro and I wouldn't suggest doing if you're not going to do the work yourself.
Antares Cam .... I bought my 14 Camaro with 3k miles wrecked.. light front damage for 7500 and ended up with 9200 in it ... I do collision work ... Always on the lookout now for a V8 Camaro ... I'm better at the body work then the mechanical. I have thought about the swap tho...
knightnrmer Sounds like you like a challenge then and thats a good deal on that 14. Its honestly not that bad tho my buddy who did it does body work and paint as well thats mostly his backgroud but the opportunity came so he did the swap none to it but to do it.
knightnrmer Yeah but look. V8's are always more expensive and more payments. Now I have a friend who is going to buy a 2008 regular cts. He loves the looks but wants a V8 in it. A 2008 cts at this time is around 12,000$ a CTS-V 2008 is around 20,000$+ for 6 thousand you'll be saving around 2,000$ of it would cost the same. So it could be cheaper over all
@Antares Cam how much would it be to engine swap my v6 camaro amd put a ls2 in it? 20k? I have a 2014 camaro
Is this cheaper than buying a v8?
Yeah just depends on how you source your parts and if you complete the labor
insurance wise hell yea! the vin says a v6, but if the car is wreaked you might not get all your money back
Mustang gang 5.0 unless he keeps receipts and gets a lawyer that's how I did with my nova
@@AntaresCam did you have to change the engine cradle
@@mrwilliams2395 nope
I did a swap last night I swapped from my ex to my new bihhhhh 😅😂🤣 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Y. Heata that was ok
Did you get this car for free?
Not my car and no he bought it at the dealership
should have twin turbod the v6 :(
Originally that was his plan, but looking ahead he felt he would be limited eventually and the L99 provided a better plarform for him grow hp wise
I'd rather supercharge my V6. But it would void my warranty and being honest I'm not a mechanic lol
cool project btw
think about if you swapped it and then supercharged it. more power and a bigger smile. i'd be smiling either way just so you know
how much this cost!
Ball park estimate would be around the 5k to 6k mark right now won't know for sure until everything is finalized..... Ill disclose all of that though in the final reveal video so subscribe if you haven't already and stay tuned
+Antares Cam Is this cost with or without engine/tranny? Or is it just parts cost to do the conversion
Its a rough cost of everything engine and trans was about 4K but that was an auto trans so it was sold and a manual was bought in its place
@@AntaresCam how is a l99 engine and transmission only 4k??
@Mike Hogan Prices change in 8 years ....good times
Isn't it cheaper just to get the ss than go through this and leave yourself carless for that time. Wouldn't you need to swap rear end, brakes, rotors and brake booster too? Why even bother doing this. Good video though.
mass destruction Nope not in my friends situation...this was the cheapest route and he also likes to build things
mass destruction damn you take the fun out of everything shit
DreadTeacher 704 I'm a pessimist can't help it.🤣
Should've just got the ZL1 or the SS in the first place. Then you still need to change the rear end it won't be a ZL1 or SS rear end. Why go thru all this. Do what you do.
Oldschoolhiphop The car was actually stolen and the thief didnt know how to drive manual and ruined the engine. My buddy was faced with a choice and decided to make it a project instead of just returning it to stock. No need for me to really explain this but its his build, his time and his money so no one else's opinions really matter. Either you like or you dont....
+Antares Cam You can expect opinons on youtube. If it was stolen then it makes more sense as to why. The caption just says v8 swap so people will assume something else.
Oldschoolhiphop shut yo bitchass up worry about your own stuff
