Larry Perkins is the epitome of what it is to be Australian. A true legend, courageous, incredibly talented, a fighter and a straight shooter. Most importantly stands up for what he believes in.
Larry Perkins is Aussie Motorsport Royalty. Never be repeated. Last to first Bathurst. Engineering innovations galore-they actually changed the rules on brake pad changes due to him. Top bloke and total legend.
Larry Perkins is my favourite Aussie Tin Top racer. Great engineer, understated, and how many other Australian Drivers can boast a European F3 title? plus F1 drive. 7 Bathurst wins and a solid Lemans drive too. He is one of the greats. I'm afraid the Aussie media /commentator have to answer in part for this. It always seemed to the punter to be a two horse show; Brock vs Moffat or later Skaife vs whoever. The Perkins, the Grices who was legendary in World touring cars were always an afterthought. Thanks Larry for everything you have done.
Peter Brock had huge budgets compared to anybody else in the group C days where he was at his peak as a driver But my money for the best overall performance in Touring Cars since the 70’s is definitely LP.. His last to first win in 95 I think was the stuff legends are made of . He wasn’t a media darling,.
You hear people say that a lot that there proud to be somebodies friend but at the end there when Alan said it you could see that it came from the heart of a true friend
In 1985 Larry Perkins co drove with Dick Johnson Ford Mustang, sadly the Mustang did not quite have the power to match the other cars. In 1993 Larry Perkins VP Commodore he used the Aussie built V8, everyone said he would not qualify on pole and IF he did they said he would Not win the race, Larry did both! Top ten he was first and won the race! In 1995 Bathurst, Larry started near the front, on either first or second lap, he and Craig Lowndes made contact which knocked the tire valve out of Larry,s front tire, pit stop he got a new tire and went onto win Bathurst 95 when Glenn Seton,s engine gave up the ghost. Check the ''Larry Perkins sideways in the wet'' Bathurst 94, he was sideways alright, Dick Johnson/John Bowe won Bathurst 94.
The guy's just pure class. No bullshit, no problem. His last-to-first Bathurst win is pure gold. He proved the Holden Engines ( once he'd been to the factory to do his own mods ) was more than a match for the Big Blue Oval Mob.
larry you good bastard i won more bottles of good scotch from my ford mate in your years that you could imagine you and ingle just out standing in them years castrol cars
good on u larry, the aussie public hated the fucken imports.. Now we dont have a choice.. Australia is only a year or so away from losing two huge iconic brands.
That Wanneroo race with Bowe is the epitome of hard fair racing at 10/10ths. Bowe clearly had the faster car but MAN that #11 had some incredible brakes.
Comment only when you know both sides of the story. My wife is a divorce lawyer, holy smoke the stories she tells, and it's a greater percentage of women who are the root causes of most divorces. I've known of numbers of hard working, decent family men who's wives play up, spend all the money, treat the kids badly, and when they get a slap, yeah suddenly it's the man who is the vessel of evil, gets an DVO, and loses 70% of everything, as well as has to pay maintenance.
I followed it all with a passion back in those days. Ahhh the memories.....Up the Mighty Holdens 💪😁👍

the Perkins HDT involvement did come about through the 1981 Bathurst when Brock retired with a mechanical problem and Jim Richards signing for BMW
Larry, just a legend.
The Ayrton Senna of endurance...Larry Perkins
There are a lot of stories about Alan Moffat being a decent bloke off the track.

Larry Perkins describing Bernie Ecclestone as " a good honest bloke" 😁
True good bloke
Didn't see that bottle of Peripheral Port behind moff that Mazda gave him. Must have drank it 🍷🤣
Here’s a thought how many drivers of that era could tell you about every inch of the race car they built?
They were the day holden versus Ford
leisure suit larry
never knew larry raced f1, 3 races but still 3 races more than all but a few
I think he drove more then that around 17 the 3 came from when he got his start in F1 he drove the last 3 races of that season I could be wrong
I'm sorry 13 it was 10 for a new Zealand team and 3 for Bernie
Russel was a Nascar driver in a former life.
He said he would never left the industry, but he did. What happened?
Just got too expensive
Ren
Larry Perkins was a hero of mine until I learned of how he treated women and abused his wife #MeToo
I won't hear of it. Larry Perkins is God.
I hope he sees this and sues you for defamation.
Shut up your full of shit
Are you sure you're not thinking about Brocky?
Brocky was the one who had a little trouble with women not Larry, get it right
