- After a few different attempts with my first Subaru swap coolant system. This is what I found out works best in my case.
Hopefully this helps other people when doing their own swaps. - Авто та транспорт
Awesome setup, the best I’ve seen! With those long pipes you probably have a 10 gallon coolant capacity too lol
Pretty damn close to 18 litres of coolant 😳
Thabks for making this video. Im working on a conversion and the cooling system is the biggest hurdle. Planing to use 1 1/4 emt as well glad to see someone having success with it.
The most important part I have found was the expansion tank. This was my third attempt at this. By running the big pipes in and out of it, makes the bleeding procedure so much easier. I am putting a new engine in my beige beetle. When I do the coolant fill I plan on doing a video.
Nice job Bruce! Thanks for sharing your clean work.
Great job buddy, nice clean build. I’m starting to look into the cooling system on my build so this is super helpful 🤟 Subbed
Thank you! I’m glad it helped. Goodluck with yours 👊
Sweet ride man!
I like how clean your install is.
I am tearing my suby swapped beetle down for some boosted action this season. 😁
Thanks man.
The NA swap is fun, but the the boosted one is borderline insane! 🫣
Real Nice. I’m planning to build a Subaru powered 73 super beetle. I already repower my Vanagons with Subaru power . I drove a NA 2.5 bug and it was plenty fast for me.
I just finished putting a 2.5 na Subaru in my beetle aswell. After driving the wife’s beetle for the summer I decided it was more than enough.
You did a great job. Are the pipes that you used for the cooling system just steal, or are they something else
They are emt conduit. Steel pipes for electrical cables. These ones are called 1.25 emt. But actually measure 1.5 inch diameter.
Do you use an engine mount bracket for an ej motor? Or does it holds up the same way as the vw engine by the transmission bracket and bellhousing bolt?
I use and adapter plate that lets the engine hang just like a beetle engine.
For extra support I put a transmission strap kit around the bell housing. Aswell as I use I mid mount on the transmission.
Nice radiator setup! Is that 1st gen Miata or second gen? Thanks!
I can’t remember which one it is. I’m sorry 😞
Are you using a the heater circuit? I would love to see how you did that. Maybe just a drawing of how you did it.
I am currently not running a heater in the beetles. But I do plan on doing so when I find a suitable heater core unit. I was thinking a universal one from Amazon under the rear seat.
Ok cool I have a vintage air unit for heat just not sure about the plumbing system for it
Also both of your builds are really nicely done!
Thank you very much.
In the Subaru the heater supply and return are located just above cylinder #4. I think they are 2 half inch metal pipes. One comes from the end of the cross over tube, and the other is a black pipe that leads to the water pump.
Nice work where did you purchase your radiator tank do have a link thanks again
I purchased the bottle from Amazon. Just search “expansion tank”. There are many different colors and sizes. Then I modified it with the inlet and outlet pipes.
@@Utopiabugs thanks
What material are the long hoses on the right and left made of? metal or rubber?
They are 1.25 EMT Conduit. Which actually measures to be 1.5 inches in diameter. They just call it 1.25.
Where could i get that coolant expantion tank or you welded it ?
I got it on Amazon then modified it with the inlet and outlets.
What radiator you use on the older bug
The beige beetle has a mk1 rabbit aluminum radiator
Those long coolant hoses probably dissipate tons of heat simply by virtue of them being so long and exposed. Nice design and clean execution. I like it.
Thank you.
Are these both "by Subaru"?
Yes both of the beetles are Subaru powered.
who did the ecu?
I got the crew at AV Conversions in Wisconsin to modify the harness.
