The "x-factor" feel is so real. My dad bought Bajaj Discover back in 2005, he stopped riding long back due to age and health factors, and now I'm the one using it. I'm not a pro tourer and I had been using that bike only for city commute. I have borrowed RE bikes from my friends and have done small touring occasionally. It's been 15 years now and though sometimes I feel like upgrading my bike to higher cc engine, maybe a tourer kind of, but a part of me don't want to change and still want to keep riding the old Discover. It's a bond between you and your bike that you can't put it in words but only feel it.. love this video btw.. 😃

Would love to share something similar.
So my dad had his super splendor 125cc and it was the family commuter for the last 15 years. As i grew older i got the hang of it, and if you're from a middle-class family and if you have learned to ride a bike in a super splendor, trust me you can ride any bike under the 500cc segment. So as I was a teen, who had no responsibilities and was just like a fire, i used to take my dad's splendor out for frequent rides. I had no money and had friends with a better bike but the splendor never in any way disappointed me, it gave me full reliability and was a spot on. My friend's pulsar would suffer in fuel economy but my splendor with just a liter of petrol could still go more than 35 kilometers. It's been 1 year since my dad sold that bike and got fz150 v3. Although the bike has a lot more power compared to the splendor, i still miss that old machine. The bond I had with it, I just can't forget.

I have all three bike most of the time, but I found more life changing experience in xpulse 200..others are just heavy machine which especially made for highway...himalayan also better in terms of power delivery by 400 cc engine, but still no one need much more speed on road.. and and xpulse is mileage friendly, my two cousin with their two bikes and me with xpulse went to goa trip from pune... i refuelled xpulse only 2 times on round journey, while benelly took 4 and red to RE took 3,,,even they have bigger fuel tank than xpulse... so i really like how xpulse is spirit of joyness..

Plus the bike's techs and specifications. Always worrying, what if it gets stuck at some remote places. Fuel injector, Lambda sensor etc. I was to buy Unicorn 150, but all of sudden turned towards Jawa.

Having owned a UCE electra I'll be honest, its a decent machine, have taken it across the country. BUT royal Enfield needs to put their "legacy" thought process behind and give consumers something as reliable as thier name. All that said though, Hero was the obvious better choice. Well we are in India, so I'm guessing 10/10 there are snakes there 🤭 I agree with you on going for the xpulse. A simple bike is the best choice and with your experience of working on the RE, I am sure you will be able to take care of most issues by yourself. I always take my old carbuerated unicorn over my dominar on solo trips just because it is such a basic bike, that nothing can go wrong on it. 70k kms over and the worst problem I've faced was powerloss while climbing kodaikanal due to clogged up air filter. Problem solved in 5 mins by removing it😂.

Worst problem I have faced on a unicorn- chain fell off during a minor accident. Fixed it with the basic tool kit. And it worked fine for about 300kms and fell off.

You talk so sensible and clearly proved that its not about only the bike but it's all about the relation and affection that builds over between you and a bike. I own a Himalayan now. I am not sure why I bought it but when I did a test ride, I really fell in love with the feel of the bike. But so many my friends teased me buying a Himalayan and suggested I should have bought 390 adventure. But when I tested riding it, it didn't give me that same feel that Himalayan did. I also know that RE has some reliability issues but still it's all about you falling in love with the bike the first time you sit on the bike. I even tested XPulse, it was also a wonderful machine which can fulfill my style and dream of motorcycling desires but for me I could stretch my budget to some more extent, so I bought Himalayan. So for everyone, who are going to buy buy a bike for off roading, go with X Pulse. Do not forcefully stretch your budget to buy bigger ones like, RE, KTM, BMW etc. It's all about the ride and a rider rather than a riding machine.
And for you bro.., your videos will really got a magic..!! Your voice and the way you use to talk sensibly is really soothing to ears... And your videos really have a great music and visuals which really suits with the situation and the place you ride.. You will grow bigger bro... ATB!! ❤❤

Its all a part of maturing with experience my friend. I've been down the same path with cameras (hobby photographer). Got the full frames and the big 2.8 zoom and fast primes. But my most cherished images came with smaller apsc bodies which is what I now use and keep pushing them. Havent reached the limit yet. I'm a big believer of the fact that less is actually a whole lot more.

I followed similar thought process like yours and bought a used motorcycle (DR650). Like xpulse/himalayan it has 5 speed, single cylinder, spoked wheels, 168kg curb. Within 2 weeks of watching YT was able to change fuel tank, sprockets, both tires, handlebars, lighting, carburettor. That's how easy it is to fix. And it cost so much less for a used one.

Always a pleasure watching your videos. I almost bought the X-Pulse 200 before opting for the KTM 390 Adventure. Probably that falls into the "reliable" category with all that electronics. Did a 740 km ride on it from Hyderabad to Mumbai in 12 hours. But the XPulse 200 always felt like a good option for touring. Will follow your updates keenly. Happy riding !!

As for the why the bike, your reason is totally on point, makes no sense to spend 15-20L on a bike that stays in service center for months when you drop it anywhere.
A cheaper and reliable bike is the way to go, you know when things break it won't bite you much.

Very rare and out of the box thought process about choosing a bike and this is an eye Opening review and decision. I was owning a classic 350 and had same kind of experience when i had to spent lot of money during 6 years of ownership. I had to sell it last year and planning for new bike.

I would say that reliability aspect is so bang on. If you are someone who tours extensively on your motorcycle and not always on smooth flat roads, reliability is the single most important factor. I remember when I rode to Ladakh, everyone recommended me to just hire a Himalayan or a Classic 350 rather than riding my own motorcycle. I had my doubts on the reliability of the REs and stuck to my guns while my friends all followed the herd. As it turns out, their REs failed every single day, be it mechanical failure or electrical issues. We would spend hours everyday just fixing the motorcycles rather than enjoying the ride. And it wasn't just their REs, everyone else as well. I myself helped 3 strangers with their motorcycles, stranded in the middle of nowhere, all of them riding the REs.
Everytime someone says that RE has improved the reliability of their motorcycles, I have one question. How much distance have these newer models covered to even judge their reliability. And improvement doesn't mean they are bullet proof now

I owned a Hero splendor pro back in 2013 on this day sep17(my birthday) which was my childhood crush and I thought that would be my first bike. Now I understood why I'm so obsessed with that bike was that reliability.. though I own a classic signals today, I still awe of my first crush with splendor... I saw this ONE video from your channel, and I instantly subscribed. I have a feeling good things are coming; this is the most sensible, level-headed, realistic mini-review of the Xpulse I've seen so far.
I've been suffering with the ride quality of my AS200 on broken Calcutta roads for years now. While the performance (for the money) is commendable, what's the point of a quick-ish bike if I can't live with it? The Xpulse is a rather tempting way out of my misery.

@@TollFreeTraveller less popular hence unique too. Very hard to get one because dealers don't stock up due to low demand. I had to buy from a dealer two districts away.
Also heads up for first service, that have to open the engine side casing to clean oil filter. Some service centers don't have the paper packing in stock to replace and try to skip the whole process. So make sure they have stock before u take your bike.

Totally me after buying domi 400 as my first bike.Don't call me out like this brother. Domi is an awesome machine but i just realized it is an overkill(at least for me). Always wanted an simple and reliable motorcycle and I think Hero has nailed. One of my colleagues, has been to Mustang, Nepal on this bike and it never faced a single problem. Mad respect! Wishing you the best for future endeavors and hopefully this is machine that you're looking for.

First of all, Many congratulations on completing 4 years of your Toll Free Traveller.
I just had a test ride of Xpulse 200 last Sunday, I was little undecided whether to go for this bike or not as this would be my first bike of life. But as said you had a X factor when you've ridden it, so same kinda feeling I have experienced after the test ride, even I haven't slept that night.
So after listening to you today, I am definitely going to own this and explore my bond with it.
