Agreed but why is he not showing us how well of a husband he is on his own time and gives this Television exposure to a young comedian? His wife surely doesnt need to be there, he wants her there....which is nice, but also selfish.
A French speaking Canadian (ie but paternal grandpa was American) watching a brilliant comedian solid man treating his sole mate with class! You are both A plus Mr and Mrs Colbert! Canada absolutely love you both!
that final moment of them reassuring each other was so wonderfull, because i feel that they are very real when they do this segment, but that moment was, to me one of the realest moments
Men take notice, when Evie began talking about her Dad, Stephen put down the card he was holding and gave her his complete attention. This is how you should treat the women in your lives. Sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad, may his memory be a blessing to you both.
Evie's inclusion on the Late Show for First Drafts is like on of the best happy accidents out of COVID lockdown and restrictions. I'm glad they continued it. She's so great, and seeing Stephen and Evie together is so funny and touching each time.
My deepest condolences to Evie on the passing of her father. I’m grateful that he was such a good role model for you Stephen, and likely for your kids as well. It sounds like he was an incredible man that this world was blessed to have.
The fact that she thought it might have been inappropriate to talk about her father's passing in a segment on Father's Day, breaks my heart. When you've lost someone you held so near and dear to your heart, you want the whole world to know what they've lost because it doesn't stop spinning even if yours does. The way that Stephen responded to it is exactly perfect, enhancing the message of "you lost a great person, world" but showing it through the lens of your personal experiences with them. I honestly struggled a lot to hold back tears and I can't believe Evie was able to. What a remarkable couple of people. ❤
If I had to guess maybe she figured since it's a comedy show she didn't want to bring down the mood? But then Stephen went "screw that, i'm making sure the entire world knows about what an amazing man he was."
She is probably thinking of the Network executives when she said "Your probably gonna cut this." *Meanwhile* ... Stephen was probably making sure in the background "Yo, if you cut that, tomorrow you won't have a host."
Evie-ry time Evie appears it reminds me that Evie is the best thing to happen to Stephen. F getting The Daily Show or The Colbert Report or The Late Show -- Evie is the greatest gift of all. EDIT: Hot-diggety-damn I commented before the real. I mean I already said Evie is the greatest gift of them all, but that was for Stephen -- I lost an Uncle right around five weeks ago and, imagine that, Evie just put everything in perspective.
❤ Now you made me cry...thank you for this wonderful segment. And sharing the wonderful interaction with your lovely wife about fathers. That resonated deeply
OH MY HEART! When Stephen talked about Evie's dad -- that was so touching! Evie, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you had Stephen to support you, and I love your sentiment about remembering the fathers who are still in our hearts. Also, GO EVIE, asking the Pope the hard questions!!!!!
Thank you to you both. Since each of my parents died, I just tried to ignore Mother and Father's Days, but this little segment gave me a reason to look forward to those days again. What a gift the two of you gave to me. Thank you again.
Evie......I teared up during this segment. Bless you. We sure miss our dads. Here's to all the dads still alive and the dads who wait for us on the other side. Happy Fathers Day! ❤
My dad passed away due to cancer a few months ago so it actually means a lot that Evie mentioned her late father and focused on all those who have passed.
Yes Evie! It is about time women should become Priests! I appreciate that you asked the question on National ( International really) television. 🌷🌷🌷Thank you also for authentically sharing that your father passed away. It is very touching to see how you and Stephen relate with loving kindness with one another.🇨🇦
This is for Evie, You never have to apologize for having real feelings. You are so strong for sharing your experience with all of us. You are absolutely right, lets celebrate those who are here and gone. Lots of love to you and your family as you navigate this next step of life.
It never ceases to encourage my heart, seeing Evie and Stephen together. There is still some light left in the world. Blessings to you both, and prayers for your grieving hearts.
That very last moment as they were exiting the segment was so real and touching. The true honesty and love in Stephen's eyes was so evident. My condolences Evie.
I did not go into First Drafts expecting to cry. That was beautiful. Thank you to both Stephen and Evie for sharing with us that moment of vulnerability and love.
Thank you for sharing that with us, Evie : from the calibre of human you clearly are, and the impact he had on Stephen, your parents were clearly a wonderful team as well as exceptional individuals. Much love as you carry them on xxx
I love how sweet they are to each other, especially right there at the end. It sounds like she says, “I’m sorry,” and he says, “Oh, no, no. That’s ok,” or something like that. It’s sweet ☺️
I know I have at least one thing in common with Colbert -- We both are in love with Evie. 🥰 Pure joy to see them together every time they do this dumb/charming skit.
It’s always a special occasion when Evie is on! My condolences for the loss of your father. I can’t imagine how hard that was for you to do that segment. I lost my parents 20 years ago and I echo Stephen’s sentiments about Evie’s dad. I too had a wonderful, loving and very special father-in-law who passed two years ago. Thankfully, I still have my wonderful mother-in-law in my life!
I always love it when Evie makes an appearance on the show. Operating as Stephen's assistant at home during the pandemic made the world fall in love with her. EVIE! EVIE! EVIE! EVIE!
I am really glad Evie did this and hope that it wasn't too difficult of an experience for her. I was already thinking about my dad who passed away 2 years ago and it made me emotional in a wonderful way to hear grief publicly being acknowledged.

The pandemic was horrible, but, if there is one good thing that came from it, it was that we were all introduced to the other half of this power couple. It is such a pleasure to see you two interact and love each other. Thank you for that! Oh and btw, this was my favorite episode of all time. It was so well done from start to finish! Thank you to the entire team for your hard work in putting together this show every night. But thank you for this show! What an absolute treat. THANK YOU!!! 🥰
I remember for Mother's Day I did not see a "First Draft" and I was like where is Evie and when she said her father passed, I was oh my that why she was not on for Mother's Day. Evie am so sorry for your loss and I will pray for your mom and your family. You can tell Steven was hoping she would not cry, I think he would have cried if she did, I love these two. The loss of a parent at any age hurts a great deal and it can be extremely difficult. Having a supportive friend or in Evie's case a supportive partner makes a big difference in the grieving process.
Watching Steven interact with Evie is a lesson on how to honor your spouse in every way. Absolutely beautiful seeing the two of them together.
Not just a lesson... An absolute master class!

do you actually know what a national treasure is? I'm not talking about the movie. Do you think before you comment?
They are the absolute BEST!!!
@mellocello187 Personally, I think they have earned each other. True love and respect is hard work every day. Those blessed make it look so easy.
Love Evie. Hands up who cried a little when she talked about her late Father. 🤚

I was busy cutting onions
You're dead inside if you didn't.😂 Very touching.

Me, too! That was incredibly sweet.❤
The conversation between Evie and Stephen at the end was really beautiful. I’m glad you left it in.

Good spot. As soon as the line about her dad was over he flipped it and put it out at the edge of the table. It was a genuine conscious reaction.
That look he gave her at the end said all of it in their language; it was beautiful. 🥹
Evie Colbert, what a picture of genuine class! The only thing that tops this is seeing the two of them interact!
“Can’t come because you’re Presbyterian” 😂😂😂 Yes, the banter between these two is GOLDEN!
“You can’t come, because you’re Presbyterian.”
“No, because I’m working!” 🤣
Same thing, in a way
@@dielaughing73 but why is his wife working for 'others' and why can't she get a week off to see THE POPE???
