The part when she mentioned that it's forbidden to learn English in Syria is nonsense, kids in school start learning English along with French from first grade.
And this driving car, bicycle and horse thing is weird too, cuz in Syria women works and drive and contribute in the society just like men!
I don't know what picture of Syria she's trying to draw here?

I believe she meant, in her situation it was frowned up on. Not because of the country, but in the kind of traditional conservative family that she grew up in. She grew up with a family that would marry her off at age 14, and explain babies with beans in hand. They expected her to cook and clean and be a house wife. So my understanding is that if her husband, family, neighbors realized she was learning English they would look down on her for wasting her time with "frivolous things". Obviously, not all Syrian women grow up in that kind of oppressive environment.
I am a Turkish woman and my family worked hard to give me the best education possible, along with teaching me English. But there are also Turkish women who are married off too young, and were forced to stay uneducated. So I can picture the kind of environment she meant when she said "forbidden".

For people asking about her "forbidden in my country to learn English" comment, a later interview indicates that she meant her husband forbade her from it, not that it is illegal in Syria to learn English.
    www.pri.org/stories/2016-10-20/idaho-s-first-syrian-refugee-wants-americans-understand-their-countrys-vetting
One could argue that she should have said what she meant more clearly. But since English is not her first language, it is understandable that some things she says will not be worded perfectly.
More generally, I'm glad that she managed to escape Syria and get to freedom and relative safety in the US. I would like the US to become more welcoming of people like her, but unfortunately it looks like the opposite is happening under Trump.

B Gergley usually when people are caught with lies they try to justify it or make sense of it. She is no different.

She is lying because learning English in Syria begins in kindergarten and has nothing to do with her husband….

Her story is full of nonsense and lies. As someone who lived in Jordan as refugee and also have the chance to work with refugees I can say for sure she’s laying about learning English, women not allowed to decided for themselves, and the way she entered Jordan and how she was received. People have to know it’s not up to any policeman in Jordan to allow Syrians in or not for two reasons, Jordanian government is welcoming the Syrians refugees, there’s a certain mechanism on the ground to receive refugees and moved them from Syria- Jordan borders to the refugees camp or inside the city of Amman within few hours of their arrival, beside leaving people on the borders without food or water is not true as many international organization working there would provided her and her children with food and water. Also she talking about paying bribes in order to be let in, personally I stayed in Jordan for over five years not once have I seen or heard a government employee or a policeman taken a bribe, unlike Syria where bribes is everywhere. I think she got confused about the two countries, or she is using too many stories (true or not) to make up her own.

learning English in the bathroom, seriously? her story is based on her personal perspective, not to say that she didn't suffer (mostly out of Syria as a refugee as she states), but lying in order to gain the audience's sympathy is just uuuuuh.
