@@1MKWilliams If I did my own narration of my book in a local studio, what format should I get in? Digital, cd etc.??? Maybe you could do a video on that..
@@sheilatextorbeeministries1890 I would definitely recommend digital :) the best way to self-publish and get the audiobook out there is to do a digital recording. I'll definitely make a video on it! :)
Note: If you're from Canada, for example, you need to create a Tax ID number for the US, in order to not be dinged with a 30% tax on your sales! You'll need to get the requisite document, fill it in and send it the IRS.
I do! I use ACX to publish my audiobooks directly with Audible and Amazon, I use Findaway Voices for everything else so I deselect Audible here so I don't have duplicate listings
I'm confused by your question. ACX is a platform to publish audiobooks to Amazon.com, Audible, and Apple. Find away Voices can also publish audiobooks to Audible and Apple as well as a dozen other platforms. To be able to publish your audiobook outside of ACX you must select a non-exclusive agreement
Hi MK. Good job on the video. I didn't hear what you said about Audible when you deselected it. My understanding is that Amazon requires 7-year exclusivity when creating a video via ACX. That limits distribution to Amazon, Apple, and one other. If one instead creates the audiobook using narrators from Findaway Voices and distributes through FV to Amazon, then the royalty compensation is slashed in half. Is it possible to create on Findaway but then upload directly to Amazon to secure a higher royalty while avoiding exclusivity to Amazon? My scenario is a bit different from yours in that I need a voice actor and presumably a platform on which to find one and create the files.
You can post an audiobook to acx under a non exclusive contract. In this scenario it will be easiest to pay the narrator directly instead of the royalty share so that you can upload it to any platform
So if I find the actor through Findaway, am I able to obtain the file to upload it myself to ACX? Or is there any advantage in doing so versus just letting Findaway push it over to ACX?
@@bikersbishop I haven't gone through the narrator pairing process with Findaway but I believe you should be able to elect to pay for the files fully and then you can use them anywhere. I think it is simpler to have one platform but you will earn more on your audible sales going direct with acx
You might have included the requirements for the square image (jpg, at least 2400 pixels in width, etc.), as well as the audio requirements for upload. These are the things that people who are not tech-minded get confused over.
Hi Pamela, Yes, you can upload your audiobook to Audible via Findaway Voices or directly through ACX. If you upload wit ACX, just make sure you select "non-exclusive" and with Findaway Voices just be sure to "uncheck" Audible as a distribution option. Best of luck!
@@1MKWilliams late to the party ik 😂 So does this mean when I submit my first narration, I can upload it to multiple places and get double the income?!?👀👀
@@RyanSmith-ut4dy you don't necessarily get double income on each sale. But when you use an aggregator like Findaway Voices your book is distributed to more places and you have more places people can find your audiobook
Yes, you will be asked about the print or eBook version if it is available. However, if you don't already have the ebook version available on amazon.com you cannot distribute to Amazon or audible via Findaway Voices
Thank you for this! Question… Does your work have to be published as a book first? Or can you just create the audio version and put it on the Findaway platform?
Hi James, with Findaway Voices you do not have to have the book published in another format first. However, if you plan to distribute to Amazon.com or Audible via Findaway Voices the book must be listed as an eBook on the Kindle store first.
There is a standard set of credits that have to be included (the ACX requirements are the same as the Findaway Requirements) and you can adjust them as needed: www.acx.com/help/acx-audio-submission-requirements/201456300#credits

Yes, Findaway voices pay competitive rates to ACX. For me there are a few factors. 1. When I started self-publishing audiobooks I started with ACX. I didn't add Findaway for a year or so. 2. I've noticed that even though Amazon has SOPs with other distributors that there tend to be fewer glitches with my Amazon listings when I go with them directly and then use aggregators for other distribution.
Great question! Yes, ACX does publish to Apple. However, Findaway Voices is the preferred partner for audiobooks with Apple. So while I could unselect "Apple", I can instead elect to have Findaway distribute to Apple for me. That listing will supersede the ACX distributed listing.
I have an eBook amazon via KDP. If I publish my audiobook to Audible via Findaway Voices, will the audiobook be "added" to the kindle ebook page, so people can see it is available in both eBook and audiobook? I would hate if people do not realise my book is on audio when looking at my KPD eBook... Thank you for good content.
Yes, when you are doing the set up for Findaway Voices you will be asked to include your eBook ISBN so it can be matched. When you elect to have the audiobook distributed to Audible and Amazon.com you will be asked for the Kindle store link or ASIN for the book. You have to have the eBook available on the kindle store for Findaway to even distribute to Amazon and Audible for you. Once the audiobook is live, claim the title on Author Central and you can ask them to link the editions. See this video here: ua-cam.com/video/RkkpRMKztOU/v-deo.html
can you please tell me that if we select Audible too as a distributor as per ACX terms, other list of around 42 retailers will still be selected or by selecting audible they are no more available for us?
Yes the default is that all of those retailers are selected. If you unselect Audible/ACX it just removes that one from distribution. If you keep it in that's okay too, it doesn't impact the distribution to the other retailers
So I just set up a "test" audiobook and it didn't ask if I wanted help finding a narrator or if I had my own files. Once I accepted the production and distro agreements I could just go in and add the audio though.
Hi Benjamie, For recording your own audiobook I suggest finding a quiet, insulated room. Since most people don't have sound-studio quality walls, a closet is usually the best. The more clothes in there, the better. As for the device, I like a USB mic like a Blue SnowBall or the ATR 2100. Best of luck!
I guess this video does not help anyone trying self-publish an audiobook that uses digital narration on Findaway Voices. Findaway instructs me that it's a different process involving LPF files from Google Play Books. Anyone know if there is a step by step for this process (would have been useful to mention at the beginning that this video applies only for human narrator).
To my knowledge there are no self publishing audiobook platforms that allow for digital narration except for find away Voices that allows Google Play which was only recently announced. This video predates the emergence of easy audiobook narration . For any service you use you can sell direct on your website or upload to UA-cam
Can you help me, I have this rejection ?Computer Narrated Audio: Please review Technical Requirements". Earlier it was computer narrated but i resubmitted with human narration, however, still rejected for same reason, why?
Hi Rashid, Great question. I would double check all of your metadata (did you update the narrator name?) and the audio files (even opening/closing credits and retail sample.) If those are all updated, I suggest reaching out to the customer service team and requesting a manual review. Someone at Findaway reviews each audiobook so a human will be able to listen and *hopefully* override the error message. Best of luck! - MK
