I know I can look it up and I should, but I think that ignoring the explanation of all the races and powers is a big mistake in a review like this. (Not to mention that you didn't show the obligatory closeups, so literally we saw nothing from the game's graphics, only the not too shabby maps.)
I have River world and The base game, And Im pretty sure you could use River world as the "base ground" and Sky islands on top of it as the sky...but you would still need the base game because it has the dice, more races and more powers tokens and all the special tokens that go with the races and special powers....I probably wouldn't just play only with the races that come with the river world as you would run out of options if there are people who like to put their races in decline.

No closeups. No explanation of all races and powers. Final thoughts could be condensed to a few minutes instead of 4-5.
I almost wanna cut the sky islands out of the board and use em like little floating islands above the main board!
