Actually the problem of Bengali / Punjabi struggle over domination of Pakistan started after the death of Jinnah in 1949 since Bengalis were the largest ethnicity in Pakistan by far so even though Jinnah used term of Islamic ummah to unite Pakistan ( which is based on the Homeland for Muslims of indian subcontinent idea 💡) so even though both are Muslims but the cultural and historical and ethnic clashes remained! Bengalis wanted to dominate over Pakistan bcuz All India Muslim league was founded in Dhaka in East Bengal and Jinnah was appointed as leader of Muslims in Dhaka in 1916 in British indian empire so they wanted to dominate but Punjabies wanted to dominate since declaration of Pakistan was announced in Lahore in British indian Punjab in British India and punjabis and Bengalis were the largest ethnicities in Pakistan since both had no cultural or historical relationship this created the clash but Mountbattens announcement of capital being Karachi in west Pakistan despite knowing that Bengalis created Muslim league so the capital of Pakistan should be in Dhaka and punjabis were dominant in west Pakistan but after 1958 coup d'etat of general Ayun Khan a pathan from Peshawar his dicision to make west Pakistan the eternal capital of all of Pakistan and denounced Dhaka the capital of east pakistan and moved capital from Karachi in Sindh ( Jinnah made capital in Sindh in order to prevent the clash between Punjabis and Bengalis since the capital well be in the smallest state in Pakistan ) but Ayun Khan made the capital in Punjab modern day Islamabad a dicition which sparked largest protests in the history of Pakistan since he saw that Punjab was the best location but after that Punjabi domination started all over Pakistan and United States of America supported Ayun Khan in his military coup d'etat so that made him even stronger he inforced martial law all of Pakistan easy and west and his dicisions like Urdu case and Islamabad case and economical and taxitional looting case Punjabis domination over media and capital being in west Pakistan and no center in east Pakistan except for military governors and dictators of Punjab accelerated everything since it looked like a colonial rule rather than a civil government rule this was the end when Bengalis did the 1970 elections of Dhaka and shiekh mujeeb ur Rahman won by vast majority in east Pakistan to create a new central government and a new capital in east Pakistan but Punjabi military dictatorship jailed him this sparked and dropped everything so mukti bahini was created and after 1971 east Pakistan was named as Bangladesh since Pakistan was only Pakistan by name but in reality Pakistan should have been called Punjabistan not Pakistan so based on that east Pakistan was named as Bangladesh ( the land of the Bengalis and Bengal ) and Punjabistan means the land of the Punjabis and Punjab . Pakistan never questioned about the credibility of that election. Even Bhutto acknowledged the result. Why Pakistan (Bhutto) and Military did not respect the election result. That was the main reason of separation and war. I should also mention present Sheikh Hasina's getting 97% or so is far different than 1970 election. At that time Awami League was not in power. The Marathas were somewhat strong sure, but it wasn't their strength that won them many victories but the incompetencies of the Mughals after the rule of Aurangzeb. That's the primary reason why the Marathas often won. The moment that Ahmad Shah Abdali decided to intervene due to Shah Waliullah's convincing the marathas were easily put down, they did not exactly have much strength or too much cleverness, they just saw the weakness of the Mughals that had been apparent for more than half a century so they decided to strike.

Bengalis wanted to dominate over Pakistan bcuz All India Muslim league was founded in Dhaka in East Bengal and Jinnah was appointed as leader of Muslims in Dhaka in 1916 in British indian empire so they wanted to dominate but Punjabies wanted to dominate since declaration of Pakistan was announced in Lahore in British indian Punjab in British India and punjabis and Bengalis were the largest ethnicities in Pakistan since both had no cultural or historical relationship this created the clash but Mountbattens announcement of capital being Karachi in west Pakistan despite knowing that Bengalis created Muslim league so the capital of Pakistan should be in Dhaka and punjabis were dominant in west Pakistan but after 1958 coup d'etat of general Ayun Khan a pathan from Peshawar his dicision to make west Pakistan the eternal capital of all of Pakistan and denounced Dhaka the capital of east pakistan and moved capital from Karachi in Sindh ( Jinnah made capital in Sindh in order to prevent the clash between Punjabis and Bengalis since the capital well be in the smallest state in Pakistan ) but Ayun Khan made the capital in Punjab modern day Islamabad a dicition which sparked largest protests in the history of Pakistan since he saw that Punjab was the best location but after that Punjabi domination started all over Pakistan and United States of America supported Ayun Khan in his military coup d'etat so that made him even stronger he inforced martial law all of Pakistan easy and west and his dicisions like Urdu case and Islamabad case and economical and taxitional looting case Punjabis domination over media and capital being in west Pakistan and no center in east Pakistan except for military governors and dictators of Punjab accelerated everything since it looked like a colonial rule rather than a civil government rule this was the end when Bengalis did the 1970 elections of Dhaka and shiekh mujeeb ur Rahman won by vast majority in east Pakistan to create a new central government and a new capital in east Pakistan but Punjabi military dictatorship jailed him this sparked and dropped everything so mukti bahini was created and after 1971 east Pakistan was named as Bangladesh since Pakistan was only Pakistan by name but in reality Pakistan should have been called Punjabistan not Pakistan so based on that east Pakistan was named as Bangladesh ( the land of the Bengalis and Bengal ) and Punjabistan means the land of the Punjabis and Punjab .

Pakistan never questioned about the credibility of that election. Even Bhutto acknowledged the result. Why Pakistan (Bhutto) and Military did not respect the election result. That was the main reason of separation and war. I should also mention present Sheikh Hasina's getting 97% or so is far different than 1970 election. At that time Awami League was not in power. There are evidence and a lot stuff available that seperation ideas came well before 1970 elections..
Why Jinnah wanted Urdu as national language? Do you know that Jinnah didn't speak Urdu. He was weak in Urdu...even in today Pakistan, native Urdu speaker are just 6-8%. Majority are Punjabi but they never asked that make Punjabi national language. Pakhtoon in Pakistan never say that make pashto national language of Pakistan so Sindhi and Baluch too don't demand such .....Urdu was/is biggest language of all subcontinent Muslim ( Pakistan, Bangladesh,India) .... Pakistan was made on idealogy of Islam...A lot indian Muslim gave vote to Muslim league for Pakistan and even supported by many other things. Muhammad Ali Jinnah asked Pakistani nation ( both west and east Pakistan) on first Eid that plz don't clebrate, our brothers and sister in India are facing problems. We can't be happy if they are in trouble. Jinnah never forgot indian Muslims...he wanted to make Urdu national language so that both west and east Pakistan should have strong communication with indian Muslim otherwise Urdu was not mother tongue of Jinnah. Why the hell he wanted Urdu as national language? He wanted to keep unite all Muslim in while west,east Pakistan and India. But Jinnah died quickly so later slowly slowly stupid leadership came and they couldn't solve the issue.
Sheikh Mujeeb started to exploit these things well from 1950s. One of most stupid lies told to Bangali people was that west Pakistani eat all resources. I believe west Pakistan put more resources in East Pakistan than revenue earned from there but please read history,due to many famines and continues flood Bangal was facing economy disparity. There was no real discrimination. It was economic disparity same like in today bangaladesh where we see more economic progress in Dacca as compared to let suppose Rangpur or any far area from Dacca. But I say on this leadership of Pakistan was responsible to solve that issue and educate people but they failed.
Sheikh Mujeeb and his all activities were seen by intelligence and they knew that there is going to issue if they will handle power to him. For me, it was best either they should not had done any election or simply they should have given more power to patriotic Bangali who could have become simply president or PM. I'm sorry brother just read your elections history in your last two decades. In each election,there were huge rigging complain...Are you sure your this nation was clean in 1970 elections? What I meant was Reading the holy Quran may be easy, reading and understanding requires you to have a level of intellect but there is always good commentery available to make clear the meanings properly.
