Oak Plywood Coffee Table With Hairpin Legs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 бер 2018
- I was given some unused pieces of 24mm thick Oak veneer plywood by Plytech and they asked if I could make a piece of furniture with it to put on display.
The oak veneer is really nice so I wanted to keep the design really clean and simple and thought I would try hairpin legs for the first time. I think they complimented the plywood really well and adds to the overall aesthetic of the piece.

GREAT videos - no narration - gets right to the point - and really nice work, too!
Love this table! Great job!!!
My friend, this is very educational. Thank you so very much and your works is beautiful. Have a wonderful day.
Great job.....love the table!
So clean and well done.
Dope. Love the look of the finished piece. Simple and elegant. #EmbraceThePly
thanks! Ply is beautiful when done right!
Realy nice and modern Deising.
Love this!!
great job. Looks good.
Great piece! There’s a real art and balance to design and make a “Simple Design” piece.
Thank you very much!
really nice job
Nice! I wish you gave commentary along the way! What product did you use to finish it?
Great build!! I love the simplicity of the design! Hope to see more of your great work! xo
Thanks Hannah!
@@TheOffcut Do you recommend pre-drilling for plywood? Or would just drilling with screws be good enough?
Beautiful piece. Great CA glue tip. : )
Thank you!
Got yourself a new subscriber! Please make more plywood projects, maybe something I could easily for my pet cats 😎
nice table.
Super clean dude. nice idea with the little clamp extension bracket thing. Have you had any trouble with the CA glue leaving discolouration under the finish?
Thanks! Luckily no. I thought it might because it really soaked into the grain. but after sanding it down it didn't show up with the varnish
Hi, great video! What is the product you were using to fill the joint gap you had? It was in the purple bottle.
Просто, но шикарно!
Muy bueno. Saludos desde Argentina
Nice!
I like it!! All from plywood too. Very cool. Nice job cutting the 45 degree angles on a small table saw. I didn’t see any burn marks on the edges.
Btw, what type of plywood is that? Is it domestic or import?
very good
Loved it! But....... it’s a lethal weapon with those sharp edges
Thanks! The edges aren't that sharp. I sanded it down so its not sharp but not enough to look rounded over
muito bom!
Clean and simple design. I really appreciated that you showed the gap in your joint. It seems like a lot of youtubers just make something that is youtube ready or they just hide their crimes. good stuff
Thanks Matthew! Its always hard for me to get perfect mitre joints, and I thought it would be a good way to demonstrate this technique I picked up to fill it
@@TheOffcut what was the liquid you used in between the sanding?
Saurabh Bhavsar CA glue
Great build. I've had a mixed past using plywood for furniture. You can only lightly sand and any dings or dents have to be filled in a way as to not throw off stain or finish. Plywood, while cheap, is unforgiving of a single mistake or defect in the wood.
I am trying to decide between birch plywood or oak ply wood. Is there a significant difference? I am using it for a a desk. I bought the standing desk legs so its only for the desktop
Can you tell me the measurements for pieces of wood you cut? Thanks
Dope ass nail glue trick
Would be nice to have the dimensions of this table!
What did you fill those micro gaps with? Superglue?
What coating do u use?
What's the dimension of this table? LengthXwidthXheight?
what's the product you're squirting into the gap? CA glue? Something else?
Yup it is CA glue. Its quite simple; i sand down the edge and let the sawdust fill the gaps. The CA glue absorbs into the sawdust creating a nice filler. Its much quicker and easier than mixing sawdust with epoxy or wood glue. Its so thin that it gets into every little gap and dries really quick.
Great work:) are the legs sourced here in NZ?
Cheers! I got the legs from Aliexpress
Nice job! , what type of wood did you used?
This is Oak veneer plywood
please tell me where you get your music
how much you charge to the client for this job? :)
Que tipo de material es(
Hey there, which finish did you use on this?
I used water based polyurethane
are you squirting water to swell the plywood or are u using something else
Its CA glue
Is there any concern in the strength of the mitre in the same way there would be with solid wood? Or are end grain gluing issues not relevant with plywood? I would have thought biscuits wouldn't be strong enough if so?
I thought there would be and I was planning to reinforce the mitre joints somehow but after the glue up it felt really strong and being 25mm thick plywood there was plenty of surface area for the glue. The biscuits were mainly there to help align the pieces during glue up.
tanc sade I see your question a lot asking about the strength of biscuits. As a cabinet builder I used biscuits a lot when they first came out and off and on over the years and on occasion I still do. I have never had any issues with biscuits what so ever. I have found them to be very strong. I have read where some people say their not strong but I highly disagree. Cheers, Sir!
What is the hairpin dimensions ?
Where do you find such nice quality plywood in Australia?
Come to New Zealand :)
what is the drill called?the one that made the joints hole thanks
The he used at 1:40? That's a biscuit joiner
How thick is the oak layer? I’m afraid to sand through it, but you seem to sand it quite a bit.
This ply has a pretty thick oak veneer on it so I wasn't worried about sanding through it. Usually the cheaper stuff is paper thin and would probably sand straight through the veneer
Thanks. Looks great! In Norway it is almost impossible to get quality material :(
I didn't know you could change channel names
Haha yup
What was it before?
It used to be Last Minute Thoughts
What liquid 3:02?. Saludos!
I think it's some kind of epoxic glue, maybe.
Is like a Loctite 495 ??🤔
Hi- Would you please tell me the final top table height? Txs
The height is 450mm
The Offcut what are the dimensions?
did you change your name sir...
Yes I did :)
What was the finish you used on this one man?
I used water based polyurethane
Did it raise the grain much? Trying to find the best product to use myself
Not too bad for this oak veneer. But it does raise the grain. I sanded between coats which makes a big difference
I am sure that you will find good way to make it on woodprix Webpage.
