L400 DELICA AIR SHOCK CONVERSION

  • Rear suspension sag is a fairly common issue that plagues the L400 Delica. Having had air bags that have already failed and in dire need of new shocks, we opted to retrofit air shocks onto the rear end of No.4. Of course things took a turn right off the bat when I found that somebody had used a welder to repair the shocks in the past...

    Always great to find a new channel with Delica content! Since December I've had to change the radiator, water pump, starter, and did the whole fuel pump remove for seal replacement. Happy to say she is back on the road now. I'm not mechanically inclined but this van has forced me to learn as much as possible, UA-cam being a huge part of the process!

      Oh you changed the seal on the fuel pump? Did you had to adjust the pump after? Where did you get the info to do it?

    Mr. bonner, delica is becoming more and more popular around mission and Langley. I saw a convoy of 3 delica and other kei cars vans and flat bed vehicles the other day.

    the original delica shocks have a rotating feature that switches between 'sport' and normal mode, stiffening them slightly. Replacing with non OEM shocks will disable
    this feature (if your van has it)

      Very true, just getting the OEM shocks can be difficult and expensive locally so this is a another option. It may result in the "SPORT" light flashing though.

    great video in how to innovative although while you have the welder out you might as well get started oil the rest of the chassis and arms... they were pretty much shot 🤒

      Thank you. That van has lived it's life in ice, snow, and road salt. Since this video the rot has been cut and new panels fabricated and welded in. I started to record it.. but the job was so massive I had to drop the filing bit just to get through the repair.

      Oh that wasn't even the bad spot... The whole front sub-frame mount area was also *completely* gone to. It's all been fixed since this video was made... many.. many... long nights of welding hahaha. I was going to make a video on how to do it... but the job was so big I gave up trying to record and repair 3/4 of the way.

    Any idea where the fender flares were bought from ? Thanks

      Unfortunately not, this van had them on it when it was purchased. Have been meaning to make some copies but it's way down the project list at the moment.

    good job. my deli shocks attach differently to those. perhaps cos its a difference between long n short wheelbase models

      Cheers! Is your van a facelifted L400?Gen1 l400 like this are eye lower and pin top, gen 2 (facelift) models are eye top and bottom.

    Just found your video and I kind of think on a same idea, but for a Hyundai H-1 Starex (if you don't know, now you know that some parts are interchangeable, since it's basically the same project), could you make a follow up 1 year after installing those shocks?

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  11 місяців тому +2

      The shocks actually went across Canada multiple times, down the panamarica highway and back, then up to Alaska, back down to southern tip of Baja and back. They have over 10000km on them now and the bushings have held up great. One shock did blow out when an object pierced the bag but the bushings were swapped over into a new shock which is still going strong. The vehicle is currently in the Arctic circle. The rear shocks should interchange to the starex as far as I am aware.

      That sounds very durable! Is that from another vehicle or generic ones?

      I've updated the description with links to the parts. The bushing are made to order.

    hi! i still bild my delica for traveling... can i get part number this air shocks or name ....

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  2 роки тому +4

      PN for the shocks is Monroe MA828. For a Gen 2 L400 the pin eye converters are not required, but a second set of bushings will be needed.

    Why not add air bags? Keep the oem shocks.

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  2 роки тому +4

      Few reasons. The van already needed new shocks so buying bags and shocks would have cost substantially more. Secondly the air shocks are designed for heavy service and ride extremely nicely in the Delica. Much nicer than the ProComps that most local vans seem to be running. Especially when loaded. Thirdly... because I can... and they are cool...
