I wish I could have experienced this live, but at least I'm checking it out now. Disco Elysium has a criminally underrated masterpiece of a soundtrack. Also, the game itself is genuinely worth an 11/10 in my opinion, it's quite possibly one of the best games of the last decade.
So, something really interesting about "burn, baby, burn" is although, yes, there's the obvious reference to disco inferno, it's also in many ways a remix of Sea Power's own song, "Want to be free" from their album "Lets the Dancers Inherit the Party". In some ways, a lot of disco elysium's ost seems to relate to that song, so I sort of consider that song to be an unofficial part of Disco's ost. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you haven't heard it. Loved the reaction as always!
There are quite a number of songs that come from Sea Power's music, although remixed or reworked. Also, the Whirling In Rags one was being worked years before Disco Elysium and they finally released the official one in their latest album :)
I think it was Jacob Gellar who said this in his video of Disco Elysium, Intrument of Surrender isn't background music, it's the sound of the city of Revachol and it's people, who time and time again got kicked down yet kept carrying on.
I've been meaning to check out Disco Elysium, I'll get to it eventually. For now I'll say the best thing about this Twitch VODs is that now you get to have more unique UA-cam video titles instead of just "[blank] OST blows Music Teacher's Mind!" Speaking of, the Pizza Tower OST will definitely blow your mind, and I'm putting this towards upvoting that OST!

1:45:00 Cradled in her arms are a pair of glowing lungs, clearly visible from underneath her flowing dress. This is Her Innocence Dolores Dei. You should kneel.
I wish someone who'd played the game had been in chat to throw in bits of context. It's a moody detective game with lots of heart and character. There's a lot of reading/ listening to dialogue in this game, so the music has to be so chill to not distract. But it does an excellent job of delivering the tone of the setting and story. Glad you checked it out and seemed to dig it!
The only track in the entire game where I really got thrown off and distracted from the soundtrack (purely because of how intense and awesome it was at the time of playing) was Krenel, Downwell, Somatosensor
I should add more context to this comment; I loved the soundtrack when playing, but I never got pulled away from the story to make note of it, it was just so intense haha very fitting
i love Whirling-In-Rags, 8am song, i love how you can sense there are two melodies being played at the same time, one very optimistic, chill and nice, but then you can hear "under it" some kind of very melancholic melody, the "detective arriving on scene" one, and i like to interpret it as, yeah, the whirling is a nice place, this is like the only place where people on martinaise seem to get together and relax a bit from their lifes. Once you get outside of the Whirling you realize that the rest of the city is just poverty and ruins from the revolution, martinaise is dead, is a place that got stuck on history and you can tell there is a constant mourning and melancholic sensation around it, this is the melancholic melody we hear under the optimistic one, the message is that, no matter how nice the whirling could be, we still are in martinaise and there is nothing you can do about it, you can forget it for a bit, drown yourself on the intentionally optimistic loud melody, loud like if they werent really hiding the fact that they want you to forget about the world outside of the Whirling-in-rags, just tell yourself that everything is okay while drinking a beer and having a nice time, but deep down you know the heavy backpack of the past is still there with you, like if the closed doors of the whirling in rags werenn't enough to keep martinaise outside of this place of relaxation, the melancholic melody will get in there, it will get in there because it is inside of every single one revacholian and martinaise citizen, the sadness of the past, the fear of the pale, just terrible deep sadness that travels every place with you, even those places where you are supposed to be chill and enjoying life.
The Insulindian Miracle is used so perfectly in the game - once it starts hitting you you're starting to understand you're learning PROFOUND things about the setting.
The repeated pattern of Precinct 41 Major Crime Unit almost sounds like "we got him we got him we got him we got him" but also sounds a bit like "wake up" this could be the edible talking
Gonna play this ost for my cats. Apparently, cats aren’t born with any rhythm, but I’ve been playing music for em since they were babies. I always put video game music for them, but try and find simple easy to follow versions of my favorite songs (they seem to enjoy it, since they start to roll and get comfy when I play/ sing to them). This is simple yet pretty. They’d like this.
i cant believe that 500 dollar donation during the dmc 5 streams is what introduced me to this incredible game, ive been waiting forever for this reaction
Whirling in Rags, 8am is like a mood-o-meter. you can listen to the same song in a different mood and get a completely different experience. on one hand, its calm and peaceful. the kind of thing you can just sit back and smile to when you're able to truly relax and know that everything's okay. on the other hand, it perfectly reflects when you're sitting there with your face buried in your hands, lamenting how everything's gone wrong. sometimes, ill listen to it and realize "im picking up on the sad version right now, i didnt even realize i was in such a bad mood today". meanwhile, Off We Go, Into the Wild Pale Yonder (which i think used to be called New, New World) is like the anthem for dusting yourself off and getting back into the fight. which is the whole point of how the song is used in the game. the music is one of the many, many reasons DE is such a phenomenal game.
my headcannon is that it is the ambient music of the whirling, the music is loud nice and optimistic, like if it was intentionally trying to decieve you, this it a nice a place, a beautiful one, somewhere you can be to relax and enjoy life for a little bit, but in martinaise this isnt possible, the past is too heavy in here and it is inside every person, its just a melancholy that you cant get rid off, that is the sad melody you hear beneath the whirling in rags song, it is the past and sorrow of evey martinaise citizen that they cant left outside of this place of relaxation, just think about it, the city is literally a constant reminder of the revolution and the later coalition massacre of the communists, the fact that the coalition still holds authority over revachol doesnt help either, add to this the fact that this people have been dealing with the idea of the pale, this world ending substance, since they were kids, how do you live a sorrowless happy life with such a heavy backpack that you must carry everywhere.
The sense and intensity of melancholy, nostalgia put out by the soundtrack alone is stunning. If this resonated with you at all, try diving into the narrative of the game. I've been gaming most of my conscious life and this game had several firsts for me.

The fun part of Ecstatic Vibrations, Totally Transcendent is the fact that the player character can contribute to the complexity of the final version of the tune
Disco Elysium is a literal godsend of a game, artistically and otherwise. I really do recommend playing it. Ngl this is the only moment I'll get mad at you for being too technical and not really feeling up the music, because (I know this sounds cheesy but) this ost hits *DEEP* man! Sea Power did an absolutely phenomenal job with the themes and emotion, it's like Disco and them were *meant* to be together.
Oh man, what an absolutely fantastic video this was. It's hard to overstate my enjoyment of this exploration into the Disco Elysium OST. I'm a fan of the game, but I completely take for granted the intricacies of how much of my emotional experience was coloured by the music and its hypnotizing subtleties. Both of my parents are Deaf, so I grew up with a bit of a distaste for music, as a kid I didn't want to enjoy something that my parents couldn't enjoy. But my dad encouraged me to explore music so I took up drumming, since you can physically feel the vibrations I felt like I was engaging music on a physical level. Only today, after stumbling across this video, do I feel this strange tingling sensation on my head enter my body. The disambiguation, the stank face, the adventurous approach to music that you've never heard before, it sparks something within me... music is magic. I'm struggling to find the words to really express what I'm feeling, but it swallows the moment so that there is nothing else. What a joy and a pleasure to be given this understanding. Thank you for this experience.
For those who don't know, the rights to this game were stolen, and its developers were kicked from their own company, ZA/UM. This means that if you were to buy the game, you would not be supporting its creators, but rather, the scoundrels who took it all away from them. So please do not purchase the game!
The creators have actually put out a statement clarifying that they're fine with people buying the game iirc even though they are indeed proceeding with the legal battle.
I wish more people in chat had given context about the themes of the game, but Disco Elysium is all about being haunted by the past, about grappling with a seemingly hopeless world, about finding a way forward from a person's rock bottom, and about struggling with the oppressive and seemingly inescapable realities of capitalism. The music is incredibly effective at conveying those themes and elevating the storytelling. It's so wistful, emotional, and makes you feel a sublime connection to the world of the story. The tracks put an absolute ache in my heart.
Sea Power is truly a blessing. If i had twice the free time i do, id list all of their album songs that the game soundtrack songs are adaptations of Needless to say, theyve been my favourite band for a few years now after discovering them accidentally (funnily enough not through the game but around the same time). I cannot express just how much everyone should check out their discography
I have never experienced anything like it. I don't think I will again. Truly a life changing piece of art. Played it a couple of years ago and yet I still think about it constantly.
2:05:16 Exactly - the song starts with clearer version of the "Field Autopsy", followed midway on the other layer with the sad piano and vocals from "Live with Me": the writers and composers literally punched in the gut with callbacks to some of the most profound scenes earlier in the game, which were accompanied with those two tracks, when they used "Burn, Baby, Burn" near the end of the game.
Burn, baby, burn was so impactful to me. It is already a harrowing song that obviously signifies the end times of this masterpiece but it is also the first and last time you here a lyrical song
Just subscribed to the channel but noticed no uploads in 5 months. I don't know if this channel is still going, but I noticed you haven't done the Oris soundtracks so far. They're amazing.
I just finished the game, it truly was something special. Having completed Disco Elysium and Nier Automata so far in 2024... I'm setting my standards very high for video games this year.
Need to put some respect on Sea Power the composers for the game who are also a band and have great music. Some tracks of theirs are the direct inspirations for this soundtrack and are just as good!
the thematics are just ACE as well., Martinaise Terminal B playing in the industrial harbor, the veins of capital, gotta have that throbbing heartbeat this game mang
Do you have a metronome attached to your audio output? I hear a rhythmic clicking in the background audio but it doesn't happen when you talk into the mic only. It gets pretty annoying because of how sharp the click is unfortunately. Hope you can fix it! 😍 Love the reactions and lessons as always! Also love the little covers you made, the songs in this game are made much more of a background feeling which I think it does very well but It does not have any overbearing melodies over it so it lends it self to additional input very well.
@@MusicTheoryforGamers I think the best timestamp to hear it is 6:46 when you only play a couple of notes. Doesnt seem to be a problem with my headphones as I don't hear the sound if I play any other audio.
@@MusicTheoryforGamers Oh I dont know if that's the case. I actually measured the BPM real quick and noticed its 60 BPM which means every second of the video something weird to the audio must be happening. 58:10 is another good timestep to hear it clearly. Im curious if its only me that hears it? It seems to happen only above a certain dB level I think as sometimes when you are more quiet it doesn't happen. But as I said, this doesn't happen with any other audio I'm testing on right now. Super weird. Good luck finding the problem!
I am not sure I can stay on the channel. I tried again and again for the past few months, but what once was an adoration turned to gritted teeth. @@MusicTheoryforGamers I love sea powers music alot, and all the songs in the OST fit their part in the game so well!
The fun part of Ecstatic Vibrations, Totally Transcendent is the fact that the player character can contribute to the complexity of the final version of the tune
Disco Elysium is one of the greatest games I've ever played.
I love disco elysium so the algorithm brought me here. You have a contagious smile and I am enjoying seeing your enjoyment of this soundtrack!
AUTHORITY: Feel it up! Way up!
Mhm. But yeah, PI! RA! CY! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is an amazing video. I feel like experienced the game atmosphere again.

- Measurehead
I wish i could forget ever playing this game, just so i could play it again for the first time.
Loved the video, mate ❤
I wish I saw it live. Love the theory. Last 3 songs are so good. One of the best games I've played and the sound definitely is part of it.
Sea Power is truly a blessing. If i had twice the free time i do, id list all of their album songs that the game soundtrack songs are adaptations of
Needless to say, theyve been my favourite band for a few years now after discovering them accidentally (funnily enough not through the game but around the same time). I cannot express just how much everyone should check out their discography
Disco Elysium. My favorite game everrrr it changed my brain chemicals lol
2:49:30 and you didn't even play the game. This soundtrack is something else fr
What he said was so spot on I wanted to comment on it as well.
A smile that hides the pain
It's a game that becomes a core memory .One you will randomly remember years later and smile .
Comforting.
If you liked this soundtrack, please don't forget to wreak havoc on the middle class!
The melancholy of Tiger King hits SO hard.
It sends me SOMEWHERE every time I listen to it
This is a game that will stay with me, I think, forever.
I have never experienced anything like it. I don't think I will again. Truly a life changing piece of art. Played it a couple of years ago and yet I still think about it constantly.
Sunrise, Parabellum.
The gentle anodic dance music of the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua
Now this I saw it live on twitch!
2:15:25 wish there was a full recording of your spin on this it was sick
Been looking forward to this one
HARDCORE!!! HARDCORE TO THE MEGA!!!!
INCREMENTAL PROGRESS, YEAGH!!
Is it, though?
PROTO-HARDCOOOOREEEEEE
The contrast in energy between the opening and the first piece of music was pretty funny XD
Burn, baby, burn was so impactful to me. It is already a harrowing song that obviously signifies the end times of this masterpiece but it is also the first and last time you here a lyrical song
Glad you’re listening to this! Great ost
Really enjoyed this
Polyhedrons reminds be a bir of the beat of "The Way Home" from the HM2 ost
Ayooooooo let's gooooooo
Revachol Forever
Just subscribed to the channel but noticed no uploads in 5 months. I don't know if this channel is still going, but I noticed you haven't done the Oris soundtracks so far. They're amazing.
check live tab :)
@@MusicTheoryforGamers oh thanks! I'm not used to browsing channel profiles. Clicked the bell for the next live!
Life is Strange, TUNIC and Disco Elysium are my top 3 best experiences with games ever.
Works of art.
Whirling-In-Rags 8am is my Chill Jam.
Tiger King and The Insulindian Miracle are the most powerful tracks of the game
I just finished the game, it truly was something special. Having completed Disco Elysium and Nier Automata so far in 2024... I'm setting my standards very high for video games this year.
Disco elysium pt. 1 and pt. 2 are reaaaally underrated, these songs are so good!
you should listen to the pizza tower soundtrack next
This makes me wanna replay the game again
So great.
man I love sea power
this music makes my arm hair go |||||
Need to put some respect on Sea Power the composers for the game who are also a band and have great music. Some tracks of theirs are the direct inspirations for this soundtrack and are just as good!
PIZZA TOWER WHEN
1 idea, and fragments based off of it.
I would often go there...
To the tiny church there...
the thematics are just ACE as well., Martinaise Terminal B playing in the industrial harbor, the veins of capital, gotta have that throbbing heartbeat

Is anyone else getting a lot of clipping audio?
We are not checkmated 🤝🏻 Bloodborne's choir theme
it's just a matter of time for umineko
listen to the ultrakill soundtrack please. It's absolutely fire.
Review the Deus Ex soundtrack pls, it's a classic
yesss
Will you make '' Plants vs Zombies 1"(in game) ost reaction?
Do you have a metronome attached to your audio output? I hear a rhythmic clicking in the background audio but it doesn't happen when you talk into the mic only. It gets pretty annoying because of how sharp the click is unfortunately. Hope you can fix it! 😍
Love the reactions and lessons as always! Also love the little covers you made, the songs in this game are made much more of a background feeling which I think it does very well but It does not have any overbearing melodies over it so it lends it self to additional input very well.
No metronome looking into this thanks
Do you have a timestamp
@@MusicTheoryforGamers I think the best timestamp to hear it is 6:46 when you only play a couple of notes. Doesnt seem to be a problem with my headphones as I don't hear the sound if I play any other audio.
OH could be my foot tapping! Looking to noise gate settings and will test today. Thank you!
I think you should know that the track "Your Body Betrays Your Degeneracy" plays when talking to the 220 cm tall turbo racist
can you try TDS ost?
Too bad the sound is popping on this one
once I noticed I can not stop hearing it constantly
are we getting ULTRAKILL OST after this??
Live with me and vodka😅
A completely inappropriate joke... well, like, the music here is sad not because the labour woman lives poorly, but because she lost her loved one
👍
Looks like u got copyrighted
At this rate Mario galaxy 1 will never be done… I have been waiting a year
I am not sure I can stay on the channel. I tried again and again for the past few months, but what once was an adoration turned to gritted teeth. I enjoy your personality, but I cannot feel good about the simple terminology of a teacher for non-versed gamers.
I understand the need, but as someone versed in music it is tough to be in the crowd of first-graders. It's just a clash of expectations, and nothing that is your fault.

Was that really necessary?
Anyone who hasn't played the game, please pirate it and give it a shot. One of the best RPGs ever made, but it's owned by straight up mob guys lol
HUH?? i thought the developers were just communist sympathetic estonians
@@crow8173The people who made the game are. The company that owns it and kicked them out is not. The creators themselves have endorsed pirating it.
@@crow8173 it's complicated but there was a hostile corporate takeover and now the company belongs to an estonian oligarch who immediately fired the guys responsible for disco elysium. it's an entire thing
@@crow8173 The devs are really chill, but they got booted out of their own company and they're not receiving any profit from the game anymore. The straight-up mob guys is the money-hungry company that stole the game from them.

Would love to see the Portal 2 soundtrack.
